TGIF

Pouring raining since last night, we're supposed to get 5" of rain fall through tonight.  If my basement doesn't flood between last weekend and today, it's never going to.  Had the most draining text exchange with stbxh all afternoon into evening yesterday and I'm completely depleted emotionally.  And a lovable but defiant Life Skills student wouldn't get off his bus or go to his first period class this morning without me doing my Puumba voice the whole time (he adores the Lion King) and now my throat hurts too.  I'm a real ray of sunshine lol.  But as the title says, at least it's Friday.  Wishing everyone an enjoyable weekend!

Re: TGIF

  • Aww, sorry you're off to a rough start. I hope the day and weekend is better and you get some mental rest!

Fairly chill weekend for me. The weather is still amazing, so I'll be outside as much as possible. Tonight we'll grill and probably eat on the deck. We have a 5k tomorrow and then I'm going to my nibblings' games. We'll probably grill and do a fire tomorrow night. We're technically not supposed to burn until October, but I doubt anyone gives a shit on the 30th. Sunday is book club and a hike. Hopefully sleep at some point!
  • You have the patience of a saint @ei34. I hope your weekend improves.

Sounds like a nice weekend! @MyNameIsNot

I’m having computer problems at work for some reason. I swear technology complicates my life just as often as it helps. H bought me the bottled Starbucks pumpkin spice latte drink and it’s….not good. Don’t waste your money. Good thing I brought my regular coffee too.

Otherwise SSDD. I might hike today. Yesterday I did the elliptical and then I swam for the first time in a really long time. It was nice although I still really really hate being in a public pool. We don’t have any other real plans this weekend which is nice. I feel like we’ve had back to back plans for weeks.

    Kids are funny.

Without context, BK has been asking about babies.
    I'm still level 0 for wanting more {appt next week for dr appt to get that ball rolling!}
Found out from M that there's a few expecting women at pick up. 2 of BK's friends {sisters} are about to have a little brother. So BK is seeing this.

    Also BK loves babies.
I'm likely working from home on Oct 6th, but I'm hoping to make a plan to see one of my friends who just had twins a couple weeks ago.
Might end up being November at this rate.

Anyways, it's not bad. If I say yes to this date I can say no in December ;)
  • I'm really just in a foul mood right now.  My sleep has been rather wonky, I'm kinda peeved at my main boss, and I'm just mad at the world.  Thank goodness I don't have a lot of plans for the weekend except seeing one of my very favorite Studio Ghibli movies.  I might go see The Shining on Saturday, or maybe Barbie.  IDK.

Otherwise, SSDD.  I just bought some new toys for Harley and it might just be a hunker down and read weekend.
  • I’m sorry for everyone having rainy weather as it’s beautiful in Buffalo. 50s at night, high 60s/low 70s with a breeze during the day.

Busy weekend for us; I’m seeing the Mrs Doubtfire musical tonight and dinner with my best friend and sisters H’s birthday party tomorrow.

Well probably do farmers market or pumpkins Saturday morning. Fun times!

You deserve the good weather! I know you’ll be suffering in winter.
  • @levioosa, oh yes.  The bottled Starbucks pumpkin spice latte drink.  I remember it well.  I usually love pumpkin stuff.  And I normally like the bottled Starbucks drinks, though don't order them very often because of the high sugar content.

This was a few years ago.  I kept meaning to stop at a convenience store and get one bottle of the pumpkin stuff to try.  But then I saw a 24-pack of it at Costco.  I hesitated.  That's way more than I want.  Plus what if I don't like it?  But then I was worried the flavor would be gone before I remembered to stop at a convenience store.  I'll just get it!  I'm sure I'll like it.  I like the other flavors, even if they are sweeter tasting than my preference.

It was SO bad!  I drank half of one bottle and threw the rest of the bottle away.  I'm also not usually one to return something that can't be sold again, just because I didn't like it.  But hell yeah I returned the rest of the pack to get my money back!  I felt baited and switched because it barely tasted like coffee and had no pumpkin flavoring whatsoever.  Not even the nutmeg/cinnamon taste.  I'm just glad Costco has such a generous return policy.

Y'all, this is what it tasted like to me.  Like someone dumped a whole bunch of sugar into 14 oz. glass of whole milk.  Then added a tablespoon of coffee for coloring and the tiniest hint of flavor.  It was so nasty.

It was an experience that left me wondering if things can taste very differently to different people.  Because no one buys really sugary milk drinks unless they are flavored, ie chocolate or strawberry.  Does this Starbucks "pumpkin" stuff not taste like that to other people?  Because enough people are buying it every year that Starbucks keeps bringing it back.  It still puzzles me, lol.

  • H and I did more yard work this morning. We split a whole ton of perennials. I'm giving a lot of them to the gal that does my facials. The rest I moved around to other spots. H then blew the entire front of the house clear of leaves. That won't last long but it all looks so nice for a minute.

DS2 is coming home today. We are going out to our favorite Mexican restaurant. We will probably watch some movies  this weekend - not sure what is available.  Sunday we will go to church. We will be transporting an elderly friend. She and her 2nd husband have been married about 4 years (both lost their previous spouses) but have been friends for decades. Her H's children have been horrible and put him in an assisted living place without her. She is living in another one. They were living in his house. The kids don't like that they are together. This makes me so angry. Why can't they just be happy that their father is happy. Neither of them drives anymore so she doesn't have a way to get to church. He has someone who can drive him occasionally. I don't know how long it has been since they have seen each other but I want to shake the kids!

It will be snowing in like a month here.
  • @short+sassy I’m a Basic B who lovesss Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Lattes to the point where I have to consciously limit myself to one every 1-2 weeks or I gain weight like crazy. But whatever nonsense these bottled Pumpkin Spice drinks are do not taste like the store drinks at all. They have that fake “pumpkin spice” flavor that so many other things do. Which is why I usually avoid buying pre-made pumpkin spice things. Usually they’re gross. I am super excited to make my pumpkin pancakes with an apple compote soon. One of my favorite fall things.

  • @ei34 I hope you're staying safe.  I'm seeing the warnings coming out of NYC right now and with the trains shut down due to flooding.  It's awful.

DH was supposed to camp tonight but that's postponed to tomorrow
  • I'm so glad it's Friday.  This has been a week.  I had someone from my team let go today and the whole lead-up to it has been super stressful and literally stopped everything else I was doing.  Auditing sucks.   I still have to meet with the rest of my team on Monday to inform them.  A couple of people have already found out and I'm like, "SHHHHH!!! Say nothing!"

This weekend we don't have too much going on.  We've got some stuff to do around the house.  I think BIL is going to his parents' house, so DH and I will get some decent alone time.  Sunday is football per usual.

At least the next 2 Wednesdays I have work events that will be fun and I'll get to leave the house.  I'll also get to see my team.   Yay!
  • Thanks @banana468! I just got home from work and the basement has a touch of water, hoping that’s it.  Just spoke to my parents, my dad said their sump pump just went on. I don’t remember the last time it rained this much unattached to a hurricane. Hope you’re all okay too!

We are fine weather-wise.  DH is on day 2 of antibiotics and has had better days but he's not surprised.

Out here there's a rollover on I-95 near a bridge in Old Lyme and unfortunately the driver was ejected and died.  It's sad and the highway is closed.    I'm far enough inland and at high enough elevation that this is wet and gross but should not be an issue for water.  And the Scouts won't camp until tomorrow so they won't have to set up tents in this weather.
