Wedding Woes

Monday

How was everyone's weekend?  Mine was thankfully not too hectic.  My kids all made a competitive swim team that I wasn't sure they'd make, I'm going to be dealing with those logistics in a couple of weeks but overall I think it will be good for them.

And ugh.  Heartbroken over Matthew Perry's passing.  Celebrity deaths don't usually touch me, but I cried when I heard.  I know Friends can be love/hate but I loved it and feel like I grew up with those guys.  It was the first "grownup" show my parents let me watch and although 14-yr-old me didn't see Chandler and Monica coming, I loved their storyline.

Re: Monday

  • The Matthew Perry thing makes me so sad but I'm also sadly not surprised.  I'm really hopeful that he was on the right track and yet after hearing him talk about what he did to his poor body over the years that makes me so sad.  Friends was my teenage years.  DH is my Chandler (we literally lived next door to each other in the same apartment complex for a year but knew each other years before that happened).  The delivery of sarcasm is my jam.

Weekend was fine.  Saturday we FINALLY went out on the boat.  Waves were choppy but we got some fun splashes and then hit the stores for pumpkins.  DH went out Saturday and Sunday the kids were supposed to have soccer games but SURPRISE SURPRISE they were canceled due to rain.  Now there's a scramble to reschedule so we'll see how the weekends start to shake out.  Luckily one event that Chiquita is booked for happens to be one that the coach's kid is in so....he knows that two players won't be there?

I went to book club on Sunday, had a PHENOMENAL brunch and then napped.  It was low key but what I needed.
  • I got rid of a big box of stuff this weekend and got my other boxes better organized to carve out a WFH space in my bedroom.  Using it today.  Woo hoo!  It's better than doing my work on the couch, but isn't as comfortable or as good of a set-up as I thought it would be.

I see now that a problem with the desk I bought is it's high!  I thought it was the previous chair I was going to use, but it's the desk that's just too high.  My new chair goes up to 21.5", which is about as high as office chairs go and it's still not quite enough.  I'm going to try tilting the desk down a little later on.  The tv I'm using as a monitor has bad resolution and everything is a little blurry.  And I can't use it at all right now because of the sun through the window, lol.

Other than that, things are going well.  My friend and I took Izzy for an hour long walk on Friday.  We caught up on her Mexico trip and I had totally forgotten she is leaving again to be in LA for two weeks.  She as a boat out there that lives on when her jobs are in CA.  Now that the film/tv industry are at a screeching halt, she's using the time while she has it to do some major renovations on the boat.

On the strike, she said the companies offered a contract that SAG revised and returned to them.  They are "reviewing it", but it's suspected they may not respond until after the holidays.  There was a leaked comment (this was awhile ago) from one of the executives that they are going to wait for people to starve and coming crawling back on their knees (eyeroll).

She has a job lined up when it's over, which is great.  But then it ties her hands to get too involved in finding other work or start some other projects she's doing.  She said the industry folks she knows in LA are hurting badly.  Nobody wants to hire them for other jobs, even basic low paying ones, because the assumption is they will leave again as soon as the strike is over.  People would, so I can understand that from a business perspective.  But it's an awful place to be in right now for those folks.

That’s awful about the LA thing @short+sassy and also awful about Matthew Perry.  So young!
Weekend was great.  Did a trolley tour of some haunted houses and on Saturday night did some freebie haunted houses.  They were done so well that I think this is the route I’m going from now on.  Many people set up awesome houses - and you donate what you can.
Our favorite professional one we go to is $70 for the fast pass. It’s awesome, don’t get me wrong, but they also don’t change up the houses that much. We can probably go every third year or so.

    Where is everyone?

  • The weekend was fun.  Left Saturday morning with friends to see WuTang Clan.  They were SOOOOOO good.  It was just one of the best concerts I've ever been to.  Their showmanship was amazing.  They have ODB's son doing his parts and the young man has definitely got some chops on him.  They had a b-boy group with an amazing DJ for an opening act.  The Momentary was an excellent venue, even when it was raining on us.  The one not-so-great thing was that it was only standing.  We walked over at 6:45 (about a mile from the hotel), stood the entire time until about 12:00 and then walked back to the hotel b/c there were no Uber/Lyfts driving at all.  Walking backed ended up being a good thing b/c we were all stiff from standing so long that it helped loosen things up.

Otherwise, we're just moving into the new offices today and I'm almost all set up with my furniture and can start unpacking.  My body is super angry at me for all of this physical activity.
  • Weekend was good and very low key. I'm still binging Yellowstone while doing house stuff. The weather was yuck so stayed inside after church.

DD said she cried too when hearing about Matthew Perry @ei34. It was her first "adult" show and her friend group loved the show. They even had a Friends trivia night at our house one time. Losers had to fix the Winners dinner. It is always so very sad when someone so young dies.
