I have an outdoor cooking/camping simulation with DS’s Cub Scout troop tomorrow, including things like fire starting, cooking turkey outside…just the kind of activities I pictured when I signed him up for scouts a few years ago, instead of just running around like a maniac with his friends in a church basement one Thursday a month lol. I’m baking an apple pie tonight and between making mashed potatoes and Mac & cheese tomorrow morning, not sure yet. Sunday is looking quiet and hoping it stays that way.
I just came back from my orthopedic appt. I finally got the cortisone shot. I hope it works. Taking off my jacket was less painful already. I just REALLY wanted the pain gone for my cruise. I hope to be swimming in the ocean on 2 excursions already.
Tonight I’m meeting up with a friend for pizza and yesterday I heard that the woman who moved to our office is kinda feeling sad about the move with not knowing anyone, that she’s even seeking therapy for it, so I asked her what she’s doing Saturday and if she wanted to go to a haunted house. She didn’t say no! Lol. She’s a lot younger than me, but seems fun - and honestly I know what it’s like to be lonely.
@ei34 We're cooking a turkey in a garbage can in two weeks for Girl Scouts! It'll be a metal one....no melted plastic for us!
Soccer is now OVER for Chiquito and Chiquita has one more practice. Chiquito's team lost last night but it was a solid effort against an undefeated team.
Weekend is HOPEFULLY a haircut for Chiquita tomorrow followed by GS Sunday while I cantor. Another mom is helping with the drive so I can do the church thing. It's going to be a busy day and we still need to figure out what we're doing for her birthday which is a month from today when she turns the big 13.
We did get tickets to see the Radio City Christmas Show Spectacular next month which I'm really excited about. I need to make meal reservations somewhere close as the next order of business. Thinking either Carmine's or Tony's DiNapoli as close walks offering the food my picky eater will consume.
Hooray for the extra hour, lol! Learning to cook turkey outside seems like fun. Though I am not really a turkey fan .... can these skills be applied to chicken as well? I have DnD tomorrow, I sing in church on Sunday, and there are rumours about MIL needing my help to move a chair ... other than that, taking it easy before the inevitable shitshow that is work next week. Big project launching that our client did not prepare for. And someone was handling my job for me while I was away with my cousin, and the stress of it caused her to immediately quit, lol. Meanwhile, none of my superiors are checking in on me all "wow, didn't realize you did so much". Okay .... that's smart. But at the same time, I've been doing this role for 4 years, and there are times in which it does get to be too much but I also am aware there are times when I do enjoy it immensely. So I have that hindsight. Regardless, the writing is on the wall and I'm going to start looking for other positions elsewhere I think.
Just got back from the boys first dentist appointment and they did shockingly well. Like, no tears, lots of giggles, 100% cooperation, well. I was floored and so proud of them. H took like 50 pictures, lol. No cavities also!
Tomorrow, IL's are babysitting all day and H and I are going to watch our alma mater play football at Wrigley Field (where the Chicago Cubs play). The game will be terrible bc both teams suck, but it will be a super fun experience! And we're planning to meet up with a bunch of friends before and then go out to dinner after, i'm really excited!
I'm sure i'll take the boys out for a few hours on Sunday, H has hi final exam on Monday night and will want some time to prep.
Not much planned for the weekend; still recovering from my trip and trying to catch up after two days out of normal routine. H left for camp this afternoon. Our new system is he leaves Friday and comes back late Saturday night so I can sleep in on Sunday. His sister is also going to take M to play with her boys for most of Sunday so I can get some stuff done around the house!
Just got back from a marathon grocery shopping - Market District, Costco and Meijer. We should be set for a while lol!
DS2's Boy Scout troop always does a Trash Can Turkey camping weekend in November. It was his and H's favorite camping trip. Some of the graduated scouts would often come back.
I have altar guild this weekend so will be setting up tomorrow and cleaning up on Sunday. Other than that not much going on. It is suppose to be a little warmer this weekend than it has been the last couple of days.
That sounds nice @Casadena and hope you do have some rest time this weekend @charlotte@charlotte989875 @banana468 we’re twins! The turkey will be cooked in a (new) metal trash can. And we’re going to Radio City next month too! My parents had been talking about bringing the older grandkids for a while, so middle sis and I purchased tickets for them, the kids and the two of us back in June, as a 40th anniversary gift. We’re going to a 9am show (I will only see the tree before 8am on a weekend!) and I’ve made lunch reservations at Carmines and Serendipity 3. I think the latter would be more fun bc we have Italian all the time, but Carmine’s is a lot closer. Everyone’s #1 pick is actually John’s pizza but they don’t take reservations. We’ll probably pop into John’s to see what the wait is like, and if it’s bad we’ll go to Carmines since they’re near each other.
edit- it’s posting weird and everyone’s tagged names are doubled, hope I corrected it
@ei34 is Serendipty 3 worth it? My BIL and SIL have loved it but I don't want to go just because they do. I'm considering it as a last stop on the way out of the city but also don't want to overload the kids. We're doing a 1 PM show so I think we'll have food in the car on the way in or will take the train, watch the show and then Carmine's for an afternoon meal maybe followed by some 5th Ave window watching before heading home.
I’d say yes @banana468, but not sure I’d bother on your show day. The kids and I have gone twice but on Central Park days (it’s not far from the CP zoo entrance), where we’re only in the city for Central Park and nothing else. I booked Serendipity bc my nieces have never been and my parents haven’t gone since pre-Covid, but in reality, I think we’ll stick to in the area day of, since it’ll have been an early morning and the rockettes are exciting enough. It is a great restaurant though (ambience + food) and kids do not stick out like sore thumbs.
Thanks @ei34! I will save that for a different event so we try to manage expectations. We'll be there the week before Christmas Eve which could be a grid lock alert day or at least - insane adjacent. I'm looking at other activities for post-show that could be fun managing expectations. Based on this I think we're geared to eat at Carmine's and then consider activities that are in that area or possibly south if the kids really want to go to the Harry Potter store.
We did the HP experience in Herald Square over the summer, it was phenomenal. That said I’m getting light headed thinking about being on 5th Ave, right in between Macys and the Empire State Building, the week before Christmas 😳 the store does sound fun!

I feel like that may need to be reserved for another time! It's a fun place and it's so easy to feel like you want to squeeze a lot in.
