Post-holiday Monday

After a whole week off, it feels VERY hard to be working right now.

Re: Post-holiday Monday

  • @charlotte989875 I hope you're feeling better!!!
  • Still sick and still testing positive. This sucks. My mom came out Saturday and Sunday to help (while H went to camp) thankfully M was negative this morning and went back to school. I’m “working” but really just resting and trying to get easy stuff done. I’ve canceled all my meetings and blocked the rest of the day.
  • Only twenty work days left before the holidays for me!I have one really huge project with lots of people involved that has to get done and then somehow need to make progress on other things. But excited for a light at the end of the tunnel.
  • @charlotte989875 I'm so sorry you're still sick!  I hope you turn the corner soon!

Weekend was super busy.   We hosted Thursday and I spent Wednesday evening and Thursday morning doing everything but the turkey which was DH's job.  Friday we started decorating for Christmas and I sitll have stuff all around the house.  I'm hoping to get our plastic bins back in the attick tonight.

Saturday was the town holiday stroll and we grabbed dinner with friends.  Yesterday we got our tree and then while trimming it and making dinner we realized the heating element in the dryer is busted.  DH Is going to try to fix it so in the meantime it's air dried undies for everyone!!
  • I’m so sorry to hear that @Casadena, I’m hoping for the best possible outcome as well!
@charlotte989875, I’m hoping you recover quick so you can get back to normal.

No real good cyber Monday deals - but really, I think I bought everything on the market anyway.  I don’t need anymore cosmetics or skincare items. I don’t need clothes or shoes or jewelry or anything that’s being advertised.

    Or do I?

celebrity cruise ships had 2 good blackfriday deals I cashed out on.  I could only upgrade my basic drink package to premium per person per room, so I would have to include my aunt. I was just going to pay the difference on premium drinks as I drank them on board,  but today’s deal was $6.99/day and I willl definitely drink top shelf and utilize that cost for both of us.  And now my aunt (my roommate) can order premium drinks if she wants and really her and I could get premium for my parents of they get bored of their basic options.
Plus I purchased the 20 digital photo package.  It was 65% off and it said I could do a photoshoot (nope!) or do the location package where they take candids around the ship.  I also think port pictures are included.  It said for me and my loved ones so I have to verify all four of us can make a picture and its not just me (also a big nope!).  We have two elegant nights and I’m bringing some banging dresses!  It turned out to be $10.45 per photo and I think in 10 days we’ll be able to pick 20 out. I’m exited for those deals.

  • I’m sorry to hear about your grandma @casadena. Healing vibes to you grandma and I hope there’s no serious long term deficits.

I hope you feel better soon @charlotte989875. Being sick extra sucks right now too because you can’t even take anything.

Weekend was pretty good. We put up most of the Christmas decorations and had a date night on Saturday. Yesterday we recovered from date night (we actually went out for once). I am feeling pretty tired between the holiday, date night, and I think hormones from my impending period. I have some things to take care of today but other than that it’s just work the next two days and then I have family stuff on Thursday/Friday to help with.

Good morning.  Work is getting in the way of Cyber Monday, y'all.

The last week was just a lot.  Very little sleep, lots of watching my nephews, and trying to help SIL feel the least amount of stress possible.  Her mom is still hospitalized and it's still a situation that could go one way or another.

Thanksgiving was just OK for so many reasons.  I had a mini-meltdown as dinner was being served and DH and I were at odds a lot more than normal this weekend because we were so tired and things were just crazy.

I also had to do a 2+ hour round trip on Saturday to attend the wake of the dad of someone on my team.  I saw some former co-workers, which was mostly nice (except for one that I never liked and she proved that she's not changed a bit rather quickly, LOL).

We went to dinner for friend M's bday on Saturday.  It was a nice low-key thing.  We enjoyed M+L's company.  We definitely need more date nights just the 4 of us and no kids so we can actually talk freely, LOL.

Yesterday was great.  We woke up and got our tree.  Once we got back, we did stuff around the house until the Colts game.  After the game, we brought the tree in a decorated the inside of the house for Christmas.  And not a soul came over yesterday, so it was just DH, DefConn, and me all day long (BIL is home through this week and working remotely).

I am going to lose my first fantasy game of the season in my other league.  I left so many points on the bench, damn it.  Womp, womp.
  • I'm sorry to hear about your grandma @Casadena.  I hope it ends up not being too serious.

Poor @charlotte989875, it sounds like you've got it rough!  And it sucks that it happened around a holiday and you had to miss out on all of that.  Hopefully when you are better you can catch up on some fun!

I read for most of the weekend, since I had book club and I didn't start our 550 page book until last weekend.  I got distracted reading "The End of Men".  I finished "The Book Thief" though, in time to discuss!  I also got a bunch of Christmas shopping done, so that feels satisfying.

  • Healing vibes your way @charlotte989875 and also @Casadena and general vibes your way too @mrsconn23
Thanksgiving was really nice, decorated for Christmas Friday, and just cooking/cleaning and low-key type things Sat and Sun.

Scored some really good deals on theme parks and water park tickets that the kids and I enjoy, $30-50 off per ticket, to the point that I'm pretty much set on our summer fun.  Thankful that there was a savings on experience gifts bc I wasn't blown out of the water by any physical gifts (though I don't have a terribly long list).
Texted exH some dates for the kids' holiday concerts and performances, and also reminded him that on our visitation contract he has them this year from noon Christmas Eve to noon Christmas Day, he's welcome to the time but it's written in that he has to confirm he's taking them one week prior the latest.  The kids deserve to not be in limbo.  Hope he responds.
  • I was off Friday, which was really nice :)

BK had parent-teacher interviews, which went well. We don't really know learning level she should be at, so I always wanna go to get update.
Luckily they know her {same teacher and ece as last year} so it definitely helps.

I spent $84 at the school book fair.
Next year we're not buying any books until that fair lol

SFIL has been in a rough spot and about to be in a rougher spot. His dad was brought to hospital, and now going the palliative care. Unknown timeline, be he fought a good fight with what he could do.

I feel so sad for SFIL right now :(
  • @MNNEBride I am so incredibly sorry you are dealing with all of that especially in such a short period of time. Sending all kinds of thoughts and prayers for you.
  • and @levioosa I'm catching up on the last week and am so sorry to hear about your losses - hope you're doing ok.
  • I hope he picks them up too @ei34
@MNNEBride I can’t imagine what you and the family are going through! This is a lot to take on :( I’m so sorry
@MissKittyDanger sorry to hear about SFIL too

  • That’s really tough @Casadena. And @MNNEBride. You all have had some really tough years.
  • That’s everyone. I’m taking it easy today with low stakes work. I also just called to register my leave claim and my estimated return to work day (with a due date of January 16) is June 4. US leave is obviously terrible compared to the rest of the world but this is better than what I had last time.
Hopefully being on leave through a lot of the cold/flu season at least gets you the time to not worry about having to show up to the office.

  • @MNNEBride I’m so incredibly sorry for your losses. That’s so heavy and so much in a short time. And it’s so hard to be a caregiver in the midst of all of it too. If you haven’t looked into support groups for caregivers of people with dementia that may be helpful for you to have an outlet and to be able to put down the mask that you might feel you have to wear around friends and family. I see my mom going through it too and it’s really awful how the meanness is often one of the primary manifestations of the disease. All of the hugs and care your way.

*hugs* for you and your family too @MissKittyDanger

Absolutely! M will still be in daycare so there’s no way of avoiding all those germs but at least we won’t have that plus the office!
  • @Casadena I too hope the best for your grandmother. I'm glad you had lots of family time over the holiday. @MNNEBride that is so much to deal with in such a short time! I'm so very sorry you are dealing with this. I remember my Dad took everything out on my stepmother. It certainly isn't easy on the main caregivers. @charlotte989875 hope you feel better soon.

Our Thanksgiving was good but exhausting - don't I say this every time we have the kids here! I wouldn't change a moment though. We did lots of stuff and the boys spent a lot of time outside "helping" Papa do decorations and yard stuff. They are in their happy place doing that. We decorated our Christmas tree and they loved the train experience we went to on Friday. They even sat with Santa without their parents! I spent Sunday doing laundry after everyone left. I also took a nap! The house is now basically back to normal.
  • @Casadena, I hope your grandmother recovers well.

@charlotte989875, I hope you start feeling better, but what poor timing to get COVID right before Thanksgiving.  I'm glad M has been negative.

@MissKittyDanger, I'm sorry to hear about your SFIL's father.  I hope he is getting good are.

@MNNEBride, ((hugs)), my heart goes out to you and your family.  To have two deaths like that just a few days apart is awful.  Especially with your H's condition, I'm sure it's especially hard for him to be dealing with, which also makes it hard for you.  Don't forget to take care of yourself also.
