Friyay! Friyay!

Hallelujah! The ointment prescribed to me worked wonders overnight! I’m just slightly pink now and my skin looks great under it all. I basically just gave myself an (unintentional) chemical peel. It should all be over before Sunday when I board. I’ll just go ahead and turn off all my alarm clocks for work until the 27th now :)
For weeks now my friends and I have been trying to get together for dinner.  I said I could do 7 pm after my hair appt since they wanted to do it tonight.  One person can only come for 1 hr.  One is a maybe. One didn’t reply yet and the other is my friend who uses everyone and texted yesterday that she needed a ride because “she can’t see at night”.  So she doesn’t drive after 4 pm then?!?  I mean, probably.  She probably goes home after work and shuts herself in but that’s an excuse if I ever heard one.  She can drive.  She just doesn’t want to.  Anyway, it’s probably not going to happen but if it’s still a go, the ride won’t be from me.  I’m back to back with my hair appt and already in the area of the restaurant. So annoying.  When she accepted the dinner invite I thought it would be interesting because she expects people to drive her everywhere all the time - day or night.

Re: Friyay! Friyay!

  • Have a wonderful trip, @CharmedPam.  We are headed to DS1's today. I have a massage this afternoon which will feel really good after all the PT exercises I've been doing. We are taking him and DIL out to dinner tomorrow night to celebrate his birthday (belatedly). The weather looks unseasonable warm. So hard to know what to pack these days.
  • @CharmedPam, I'm glad the ointment worked!

Definitely not trying to back up your friend's excuse.  But I've become concerned about my own driving at night.  I'm fine in areas I'm familiar with, as long as it isn't raining.  But I have a trouble seeing the stripes on the road when they're faded, especially if the road is wet or too dark.  Overall, I just don't see as well as I used to at night.  Though it's weird because it's not like things are blurry or anything like that.  Other than the stripes, it's also more like I don't notice things as well as I used to.  But my sight is the same as always during the day.  I'm due for an eye doctor appointment anyway and will do that early next year.  I don't know if there is anything that can help what I'm describing, but it doesn't hurt to ask.

I took a sick day yesterday and am, yet again, super behind at work (sigh).  I'm especially annoyed at one of my coworkers.  On Tuesday, he mentioned some work he was going to be sending to me.  But when did he send it?  This morning.  On my already very busy half-day Friday.  And 3 out of the 4 e-mails are marked "urgent".  Well, too bad.  I probably won't get to them until Monday.

I need to head to Walmart after work for some prescriptions and groceries.  I also need to stop at the bank, which is mostly on the way to Walmart at least.  But other than that, it will be another weekend where I am laying low.  I need to get over this cold and it's hacking cough.

I've had a weird week with weight.  I gained almost 4 pounds over my trip.  Lost 2 pounds within 2 days of coming back.  Great.  But then on the 3rd day I dropped another 5 lbs. overnight!  Which put me 3 lbs. less than before the vacation.  But haven't lost anything since then.  Not even a 10th of a pound, even though it's now been an entire week since the big loss.  Usually I lose at least 1.5 lbs/week on my current diet/medication.  This isn't a complaint.  Just another piece of my weight loss journey that has been way more baffling and less consistent than I expected.

Something very similar happened on my last vacation, which turned into a 3-week stall.  So I hope there is not going to be a repeat of that.

I get it. Driving at night is not my favorite either and notice my eyes have changed too.  I think night vision changes come with age.  But she’s been using that excuse for ages.  And that’s what it is.  An excuse. And people, mostly me, have been caving. But it’s getting old.

And has she seen a doctor to see if there's any deficiency in addition to age that needs to be remedied?  My mom will not drive to my house but I can get my brother/BIL to be the driver for family events that end before sunset in winter.
  • @CharmedPam I’m glad you’re feeling better!

Yesterday was rough. I have a lot to do today between studying, a work out and then later today I have an appointment. Unfortunately I slept terribly last night. But I’m glad I have the weekend now.

  • Good morning!  Happy Fri-YAY!

My one meeting for the day is over.  Woohoo!

Tonight is a chill night.  Tomorrow is cookie baking day at my sister's and Sunday is football and celebrating the kiddo's bday.

I know she has a pair of reading glasses, so she has been to the eye doc at least once in her life.  Probably not annual check ups.  Tonight was canceled.  As predicted.  And I responded with a reschedule for January and a “in the meantime, get those eyes checked!” comment.  Not sure if she picked up on the snark….

I remember my aunt saying that B12 deficiency affected her night vision.  That was years ago.

But point being - IMO if you're younger middle aged look into what's affecting your ability to see at night OR stop making excuses.
  • Just had a 1-1 with my boss and he was pretty sure we would have no more projects before the end of the year. So definitely coasting til January - just feels nicer when it's supervisor sanctioned, lol.

Going to run errands later and get a workout in at some point.

G's classroom has family night tonight so we're going back to school after dinner to build and decorate gingerbread houses with his class! Both boys are super excited. Tomorrow morning is G's best friend's bday party - were going to some indoor play/game place. N is invited too and they picked out a small set of mangatiles and a small truck each to give. G is OBSESSED with the small truck he picked out and doesn't want to give it - so we're working on that. Also his bday is next weekend and he's getting a huge firetruck so he'll be fine.

Sunday is nothing and i'm excited to just hang at home all day.

But then I have to admit to myself AGAIN that I'm middle aged.  I hate that, lol.

I know this wasn't directed at me.  But it made me laugh because I'm staring down the barrel of menopause.  And now my night vision is recognizably worse in certain situations.  I still feel like I'm in my 30s and I wish my body would stop reminding me that I'm not, lol.

  • Good morning! It’s warm and sunny in Buffalo and I surprisingly have some energy this morning so I’m running with it. It’s not going to last but I’m taking it while I can. Came into the office, had a good chat with my manager and planning to leave early and go for a walk before I have to get M from school.

H is at camp and will come home sometime tomorrow. We’re doing a weekend of gingerbread houses; one at SILs and one at BFFs. Should be a weekend of sugar!
  • @CharmedPam glad the ointment worked and sorry about your evening getting canceled.
    @Casadena  that sounds so nice

Trying to get grading and some cleaning/organizing done tonight bc it’s a quieter night. Tomorrow brings a birthday party and our town tree lighting and on Sunday I host my annual Christmas Cookie Decorating Party with my siblings and the nieces and nephews. Actually just reminded myself that I have to order bagels for it.
  • I got my allergy shots this morning and then did fasting labwork and then met with my financial advisor.  Whew.  Now I'm at work waiting until the Christmas party and I don't want to do a darn thing.  The 401k setup here is weird and my person doesn't handle things like this, so now I have to find a new person and I'm a little miffed about it.

I have tickets for the new Studio Ghibli movie tonight.  Getting my hairs redone and then seeing an out of town friend tomorrow night.  I'll see Mom on Sunday and hopefully get in some chill time and play time with Harley.  I'm counting down the days until the last week of the year when I am OFF!!  Whoot!

My point is more that I think there can be a difference between being too young for qualifying for Social Security and being old enough to know that you were born in the 80s or earlier where if you lose night vision that's a reason to seek a medical professional and not just pawn the driving off on friends.

But yeah - my night sweats tell me I'm not in my 20's or 30s.
