Wedding Woes

Sick Tuesday

Well, I’m fine, but one of the kids is out of school for the second day in a row with a virus.  Heading to the pediatrician soon, and hoping the other kids and me remain healthy.

How’s everyone else?

Re: Sick Tuesday

  • Crossing fingers??

I am about to finish what was a fast moving cold.  It was more annoying than anything but of course stuff is moving through the schools and we have two weeks til Christmas and a packed Sunday in NYC.  I'm hoping that this is the year we can escape Christmas illnesses after our record year.

I'm always overwhelmed this time of year so I need to take some deep breaths.
  • I always get scroogy this time of year. Trying to balance getting our kids gifts that they will be excited about while also knowing that at least one set of grandparents will throw any suggestions you have out the window and only get them "fun" things that take up a lot of room, one side of the family the great aunts-uncles get gifts for everyone, and honestly its all just too much. I feel bad getting annoyed that people want to give us and our kids gifts, but it becomes more stressful than nice and i'm just kind of over it.

Rothys is having their semi-annual archive sale so i have a few things in my cart. The one shoe i really wanted sold out fast, but i'm sure i can find a secondhand pair in the FB B/S/T groups if i really want. I also NEED a new pair of jeans or two and am not sure where to even look anymore.

Work is slow and i'm kind of bored but i'm getting lunch with my fave coworker today so that will be nice at least.

@ei34 i hope the rest of you stay healthy!!
  • I am also hoping to avoid illness.  But, my sister and her family always take us down.  We go there for Christmas, and somehow everyone who visits gets sick, lol.  It has becoming their Christmas gift to us all.  Last year somehow I was completely unscathed.  We got there at night and woke up to my two nephews taking turns getting sick in the bathroom, stayed for two days, and had no issues, lol.  Fingers crossed my immune system doesn't let me down this year either!

I want to veg until Christmas at this point - I want no more plans to be made, no more gifts that need to be bought .... I think I got everything, but we will see.

  • @ei34 best wishes for your kid's recovery.

@kerbohl, maybe stay home for Christmas?

Finishing breakfast and working now. I guess after yesterday routine is good.
  • @ei34, I hope you and the other kids stay well and the sick child is feeling better soon.

Crossing fingers for all the Knotties and their families to stay well this holiday season!

Though it is too late for me, lol.  I've had a bad cold since last Monday.  The coughing has gotten better, but I haven't been exercising because of it.  My stationary bike is still definitely out.  But I'm going to try floor exercises tonight and hope it doesn't exacerbate things.

It was a very close call for one of our tenants today.  She ran into multiple financial troubles last month, but then didn't live up to the payment plan we put together.  We were going to file for an eviction today because she's been ignoring our texts, supposedly due to "phone problems".  Whatever.  If true, that just makes it even more important to keep in touch with us when she flakes on the payment plan.  But she got in touch with us today with an amount she can pay on Friday that will cover the majority of her overdue balance.  It's probably stupid, but we're tentatively giving her that time.  I hope she comes through and now realizes how serious this is. We're not tolerating any more excuses, because I'm already pissed she didn't live up to what she said she would do.

But enough about that.  I've already thought about it too much over the last couple weeks.  Work has been super busy!  I couldn't even visit WW yesterday and never did get through all the Prudie letters from last week.  You know it's bad when, lol!

I know it's still almost two weeks away, but I'm definitely looking forward to having two 3-day weekends in a row.  It's keeping me going!

  • H is still coughing like a chain smoker (which he is not). He's waiting on the doctor to return his call from yesterday. Friends of ours have Covid. The husband has had a really bad cough with it and they both have had cold symptoms. H has tested negative but I hope he isn't one of those that tests negative and is really positive.

I have orange cranberry bread in the oven. I'll freeze at least one of the loaves. Cookie baking will be next week.

Hope the rest of your kiddos and yourself stay healthy @ei34. Healthy vibes to everyone else too.
  • Oof, seems like illness is making it's rounds!  So far I've been fairly lucky, just struggling with same old same old allergies.  Health and healing vibes to everyone.

Had my annual doctor's visit today.  Had some good and serious discussions about moving forward and what that looks like.  I'm getting a coronary calcium scan; I've had slightly high cholesterol my entire life, even as a thin 20s human, so she wants to see what my vessels are looking like and make decisions afterwards.  I really like my PCP.  She told me that her nurse is getting ready to graduate with her RN degree.  PCP doesn't know if she'll have a steady nurse after that; the other PCP in the office hasn't had an assigned nurse for a year!  She said she'll probably close her clinic to new patients and have to drop some if that happens.  She told me not to worry; I was one of her favorites and she'd keep me.  Thank goodness; too many of my health care providers have been retiring/leaving the field (I understand why), but it makes finding new ones a PITA.

Going to have dinner with mom tonight because I had to move it from yesterday from an unexpected client appointment.  The firm has finally decided that the day after Thanksgiving is an officially closed day, rather than us having to use PTO.  Otherwise, just holding on for 13 more days until I have a whole week off again!

Unfortunately I am a glutton for punishment.  I love my sister so much I will risk the horrible sicknesses every time.  Also, I don't have the tools to make olie bollen, so if I don't go I will have none.  My dad and I make it every year with his deep fryer.

  • @kerbohl - Sorry you have to risk sickness to be with family.  My husband is Dutch and loves olie bollen!  I've never had them.  He tried to make them one year but they were oil logged lumps.  Having a Norwegian heritage, I'm used to lefsa, rosettes and other goodies for the holidays.

I was so nervous about getting sick before my holdiay (I translated “vacation” for you lol) that for 5 days before going I was taking airborne as a precaution.  I don’t know if it’s just the psychology of airbornne or emergen-c or any of those immune system vitamins working on my brain or if that stuff actually works?

  • Only b/c I'm one of those people who reads stuff like this, Airbourne was sued b/c they had no evidence that the medicine actually prevents anything and paid out around $30 million.  I'm sure there's a psychological component and it doesn't hurt you.

Yep, they are pretty tricky to make.  I made them one year that they were baked on the outside, and raw on the inside.  My dad and I have been doing it for years, we have a system.  I really should learn to do them myself though - and maybe I'll make them year round!  Which then doesn't make them a New Years thing, so that does ruin the tradition.

  • I just googled olie bollen and air fryer and recipes exist.   Might make them somewhat less tricky?

I tragically do not own an air fryer.  I could have, because my MIL insisted on getting us all one last year, but I had just renovated my kitchen and didn't want to fill it with yet another countertop appliance.  If I had known I could make olie bollen in them, I would not have been so stubborn!
