Wedding Woes

I don't think it's dating profile information.

Dear Prudence,

I am on the autistic spectrum, and I lack the ability to completely hide this—specifically, the longer or more interactions I have with a person. So, I am wondering when it comes to dating should I be up front and include this information in the about me profile and hope that someone is open to dating someone on the spectrum or try and hide this until the person starts making commits or asking questions as usual?

  • I’d wait until you either have been talking a while and it comes but or you decide to meet in person.
  • It depends on if LW wants to deal with it up front and not be bothered by people who can't/won't or if they want to have a conversation later.  Honestly, just from my observations, I think I'd throw it out there immediately.  Why go through the bother of finding a connection, only to have it broken because some one recognizes they can't/won't make room for that in their lives.
  • I'd probably put it out there, especially if LW is young. ND is becoming one of those things that are somewhat less stigmatized, especially for the younger generations, but they might as well weed out anyone who is going to have an issue with it.
