Wedding Woes

Festive Friday

We made it!  So ready for this break and of course the holidays too.  How's everyone?

Re: Festive Friday

  • We're hosting on Monday so this weekend is going to be insane.   I need to wrap gifts, make a few batches of cookies, get the 2x baked potatoes going and DH needs to get to the grocery store to get more milk and veggies.  It's attainable but it's going to be a team effort.

MIL and FIL are going to host Christmas Eve and my goal is to leave for their house with two set dining room tables so our return home means put kids to bed, chill with a beverage and then Santa up the joint.

Knock on wood we're hanging in there.  I have to bust out the stitch wichery between now and 2 to hem up St. Joseph's costume.

My kids decided that because Chiquito is playing Joseph in the pageant I am Joe Momma.
Your kids are hilarious and creative.  That is a GREAT joke.

I have to bake muffins, and make sure I have ingredients for the stuff I do actually have to bring to either the ILs or to my family's Christmas.  It should be too bad - less stress not to host!
Work isn't dragging as much as yesterday, but I still have about 6 hours to go ....

  • Finishing up my final hour of work for the year and then it is festive time! Final gifts to wrap, two more to buy (oops!), cookies to bake, and I’m getting a big grocery delivery tmrw morning so need to double check that list. I’m cooking Christmas Eve and this year doing boeuf bourgignon cheesy potatoes and green beans and then for Christmas Day baked French toast and leftovers. Can’t wait!

Happy Friday everyone! We have family get togethers from now till Monday. The only thing I’m excited for is the McCain deep and delicious cake I’m fighting for. Lol.  We were supposed to have an appetizer type spread for two nights and then a traditional turkey dinner on Christmas but I think we’re switching it to one appetizer dinner and two traditional ones to fit my cousin in. Dammit.. I hate turkey dinners! Oh well, it’ll help me lose some of this vacation weight I gained on the cruiseship.
I did buy those Maurice bralettes.  I had no idea Maurice sold Vigoss jeans. I had a pair in my stitchfix box and loved them. It was a good price at 40% off and an additional 20% for my promo code. Unfortunately the tops look so short there and I need some for work. I think I had that problem in person when I went there.
    And Love Joe Momma @banana468

Have a great Christmas everyone! i’m sure next week on the boards will be a ghost town.

  • Today is marathon wrapping day! H is cleaning the house and I’m watching movies and wrapping. He’s all in a rush because this is the first day he’s taken off and realizing we have a lot to do- I’m trying to ignore him and enjoy the festivities!
  • Merry Christmas from Cajun Country!

    Papa Noel and his alligators:

Your all's plans sound so nice!  Lots of family time and good food.

We will have a quiet holiday.  We're cooking the big feast on Christmas Eve so there's more time to snack on it over the long weekend.  My friend down the street is an "orphan" like us and doesn't have family in town either, so she'll be joining us.

There is a 100% chance of rain on Christmas Eve, so that is a good day to spend inside!  I am not even joking.  The weather report actually says 100%, lol.  But it was below freezing last year and this year we're in the high 60s, so I really can't complain.  I'll take rain over freezing weather.

  • TEchnically working today, but not expecting anything to come through, my whole team is pretty much off the rest of the year including my boss, his boss, and her boss.

I have a few more presents to wrap and want to get started on packing and clean a bit. Santa is coming tonight in our house so we'll have to get ready for that :) This is the first year the boys have really been into santa so it will be fun. Sunday we're going to IL's all day and i only have to bring a meat/cheese tray. Monday we're getting up and leaving right away for my parents and we'll be there til NY! Looking forward to time off and being in pajamas the majority of next week.

  • I'm working until noon today and then have an eye appointment.  I need to wrap after that.  Tomorrow will be making lasagnas for Christmas Eve.  We are hosting my family.  Sunday I'll bake dinner rolls to take Christmas Day to an Aunt's home.  I'm off 12/26 & 12/29 so I'll have 2 long weekends.  Work is super flexible so I could take more days if I want.

Going to be a brown Christmas here as the temps are too warm for snow.  We are expecting rain throughout the weekend.

  • We are expecting rain too. I hope there are some breaks so the kids can get outside.

I need to fix the casserole for dinner tonight. Christmas Eve we are doing burritos/nachos. H is fixing prime rib for Christmas Day. I'm in charge of all the sides -- gruyere mashed potatoes, roasted root veggies and rolls. The twins and little brother will help me bake the pound cake and pie for dessert tomorrow and Sunday. Everything is wrapped and cleaned so I just might take a nap this afternoon before everyone arrives! I had to run out to get stocking stuff for the dogs this morning. We don't always do that but we do have stockings and don't want the boys to notice that Santa didn't leave them anything.

    Enjoy your time off everyone!
  • I miss having an office job where the last 2-3 days before the Christmas break were pretty much “sit here and get paid” days lol. Full day for me. I’m chomping at the bit for the end of the day. So close but so far. There’s a lot to do before tomorrow and I need to focus and be more organized. It really is crazy how stress just completely wrecks you. I’m usually so organized and together and this whole year I’ve just been scattered. But it will be nice to see everyone. Tomorrow we are going over to spend the night at my grandparent’s house and then have breakfast with them in the morning (grandpa’s Christmas gift—he likes to go at 6:30 am). Then my parents are coming over for a lunch before the grandparents head down to the Seven Fishes dinner my aunt is having. H and I will go home and relax the rest of the day and then on Christmas the parents and SIL and BIL are coming over for lunch/brunch. Should be a nice day. I’m just happy we’re not traveling all over creation for Christmas. I might try to plan some fun games to play and hopefully it’s received well.

I hope everyone has a great, peaceful, and fun holiday! For those who find this time of year hard, all of the hugs.

  • @levioosa, my only day like that this week is today, lol.

And I'll have you know that I spent 30 minutes getting my weekly report out.  25 minutes to get a document/files over to Doc Control.  And downloaded some files from my e-mails.  That had to have taken AT LEAST 10 minutes!

So I have been VERY productive, lol.

I did get an auto-email back that the main engineer I support will be on vacation all next week.  Yay!  That means I shouldn't get any new work from him and can give more attention to my backlog.

  • Of course I step away from my computer for ~30 minutes to run an errand and miss a call/last minute meeting request from our VP. *eye roll* I KNOW today is a work day, but seriously....
  • I am over today.  I have a list of stuff I've been working on all week and then Bossman dropped 4 new projects yesterday.  It's fine, but I'm probably going to have to come in on Saturday to finish up.  Those 4 new things all have end of  year deadlines.

I've been struggling with just not feeling 100% the last few days.  I got nervous enough that I took a home covid test last night and was negative.  Get to work this morning and find out that my secretary has covid.  I just scheduled a test at Walgreens at 4:45, to make sure.  My aunt is coming on Monday and she's immunocompromised and my mother is 84.  I need to know for sure.  Plus I went to a winter solstice party last night, so I would need to tell those people.

Otherwise, I'm trying to grind out the last few things.
  • Oh no, @VarunaTT,  I hope you don't have it.  That would suck if it affected your Christmas and you couldn't see your family.

  • Oh no @VarunaTT I hope you’re negative!!
