Wedding Woes

New Year Same Board

Happy New Year WW!
Ugghh getting my kids into school today was a bit rough, they didn't want to return.  I was ready to return but felt bad for them, even though I know that after five minutes in class it feels like you never left.
Hoping it's a good day for all!

Re: New Year Same Board

  • I'm feeling surprisingly more motivated at work today than I expected.  Usually I'm grouchy coming back after a long weekend.  Perhaps the start of a fresh year is having an influence.

I just finished my official "changing of the calendar" at work, lol.  They print these large calendars (3'x2') for us.  Threw out the 2023 one.  Hung up 2024.

Though now it's a reminder that the next holiday isn't for SIX weeks!  Drat and curses.  Such a long time.  MLK Day is in a couple weeks for some of you, but that is not a holiday at my work.  My next one is Mardi Gras (Feb. 13th), which is actually super early this year.  MG can fall anywhere between Feb. 10th-March 5th, so we're very near the beginning of that range.

Oh!  2024 is a leap year.

More musings while I'm looking at the calendar.  Eeekkk!  I need to talk to my H.  But I think I want to set our move date to the last weekend in March, for a move-in date to Cincinnati of April 1st.  Though if my work isn't going to let me keep my job, then I guess moving over a weekend doesn't really matter.  I feel like I need to start breathing into a paper bag, lol.

An online friend gave me a free 28-day trial to Supernatural.  It's a VR fitness app.  I tried it out on Sunday.  I think I like it.  I find exercising boring, but this was kind of fun.  I wasn't sure if it was a good enough workout, but I was sweating and getting out of breath toward the end.  And now it's almost two days later and I'm still sore, lol.  It doesn't seem to have any strength training workouts though, which is the kind of exercises I more want to be focusing on.  But if it better helps me get into the habit to exercise at all, that would be worth it.

  • Happy new year! Especially to @charlotte989875 hope you get a few quiet recovery days now.

Paris was amazing but also kinda sucked? My sister came with me and had to go home sick halfway through and then I had the worst food poisoning last night right after I got home. But I think when I’ve recovered I will remember that I loved it.
  • @charlotte989875 Oh, that is a really crappy weekend.  Glad that it was a short hospital stay!
@STARMOON44 Food poisoning if awful - I hope you recover quickly!  Maybe it won't put too much of a damper of the memories of your trip.
@short+sassy I also want to start doing some strength training, but I am as unmotivated as they come.  My upper body has been getting significantly weaker the past year, and that worries me.  I do need to do intermittent heavy lifting in everyday life, and if I can't lift 50 pounds I am in trouble.

Actually I completely forgot about MLK day @short+sassy. I was supposed to visit the bro this weekend but I’ll get another day next so I’ll ask him to switch. Very cool about supernatural. When you said that, I thought for sure it was about the long running TV show. Lol. I signed up for bodi (formerly beach body) but didn’t feel like starting yesterday. I did a beginners workout which was OK. I want to eventually move up to the more well known ones, but I’m just getting back into it. I agree, working out is boring and stupid.  Lol.  Bodi has a special (I think still) for buy one year get the next free. So if I continue it, and go into my 2nd year it’s $7.50/month. If I forget about it and quit halfway through it’s $15/month which still isn’t bad.

Sorry to hear about the J scare @charlotte989875 but I’m glad you’re all back home and it was just one night.
Boo to the Paris trip halfway through.  Hopefully you can look back on the good parts @STARMOON44

Did anyone notice companies cutting down this year on Holiday gifts?  We never got a lot.  But two venders and our landlord always gave us stuff.  Not this year (unless it was eaten or taken while I was out?)  But for sure the vendor who always gave all employees wine in our small office - only gave one bottle to the VP this year.
New years was good.  But it was with a group of people I barley know. They went out after our comedy show which ended at 9.  I had just met them Friday so thought it would be awkward if I went out and our connecting friend went home.  Lol.  So I was home by 10.  Managed to stay up for both the East coast and Midwest countdowns but forced myself on the real midnight for me.
    Happy New Year!

  • @charlotte989875, sorry to hear it was a stressful last couple days.  But I'm glad J is doing well now.  Such a cute pic of him in the big stocking!

@STARMOON44, I'm sorry the Paris trip had some major hiccups!  Your poor sister having to leave early!  Plus it's miserable enough to have a flight that long, much less to be really sick for it.  I hope you are both feeling better now.

@CharmedPam, I also think Supernatural is a weird name for a fitness app, lol.  I should check if there are other ones out there for VR.  I assume so.  Though apparently it's the #1 rated fitness app for Meta Quest.  After my free trial, it's $10/month or $100/year.  I'm going to stick with the monthly subscription for now.

My work gives nothing for Christmas.  At least not to non-engineers.  Though I've heard the engineers get nice Christmas bonuses.  We don't have vendors that come to our offices, so no gifts from them either.  Though individual engineers might have some mailed, since they are the ones who primarily interact with vendors.

This is my funny vendor story, though not related to Christmas.  At a previous engineering company I worked at, we had a vendor who brought doughnuts or bagels into the office every Friday morning.  Our sales rep who brought the treats was also drop-dead gorgeous, outgoing, and friendly.

Every Friday, half the guys in the office would start surreptitiously lingering around the break room.  Or frequently walked past it.  Waiting for her arrival, lol.

I was actually SO ready to buy the lululemon mirror.  My marketplace had them as low as $200.  But average price was used for $350-400. And I was Ok with the program you need to buy at $39.99/month until I saw you had to commit to an annual subscription at the very least.  So if I bought the $350 mirror it would have been an $830 commitment I just wasn’t ready to dive into.  The mirror are workouts like bodi, but you just see yourself doing them and can correct posture and all that.  I don’t need that feature.  It’s nice, but I like the bodi subscription price better.
$10/month is a great price! Good luck with it. I hope we both stick with it. I can’t believe you could be moving in 3 or 4 months!

  • I had a good holiday and vacation.  Played video games, did stuff around my space, took Harley to the vet (she did great, is healthy, and dealt with all the new stuff really well), just lots of little stuff to take care of.  My word for this year is "health", physical and financial mostly.

Right now, focusing on getting up earlier in the am (this week is 5 am for the next two weeks, I've done 6 am for the last two weeks and been successful with it) and prep cooking at home.  I'll start working out in the mornings after 5 am is regular routine.  Basically, I need to start preparing for aging.  I don't want to be an unhealthy and immobile older person, so I need to start getting this body in better health.  My PCP appointment was rather, "This needs to happen now or this is the other path that will happen".

Okay, I know I was a bit of a hater on my counterpart at work when he started, but he really is struggling now.  I've talked to him quite a bit this morning about things and just given him some validation and reassurance.  Our boss is a good person, but he can be very difficult to work for.  I just told co-worker, I know so very well how you're feeling, it's incredibly valid, and it sucks...and it will pass.  Here are some tools to get through it.  Hopefully he listens and keeps steady.

I also bought a subscription to the Silk and Sonder journals.  I really dislike all of that journaling stuffs but I need something b/c "Aimless [real name]" is not doable anymore.  I've already attended one of the online seminars and it wasn't too bad.  It was honestly set up to be more of a "mirroring" activity for setting up your next week, which is very helpful for me.  They also had things like "make a ta-da list or a to-don't list".  Ta-da is all of the things you did that tday, so "ta-da, look at what I did" and the to-don'ts are things like, "I won't talk mean to myself today" and then you can achieve those things.  I'm still a bit hesitant b/c it is also that OMG WE'RE SO CHEERFUL AND WONDERFUL, but honestly, I need the help and direction, so i'm going to use what I learn and still maintain my grumpy outlooks.  :D
  • New Year's was uneventful. Neither H nor I stayed up for the ball drop.

Yesterday I started taking down decorations. I got the upstairs done yesterday, the basement done today and hopefully the main floor tomorrow. We are leaving Friday for SC for a funeral. I will try and get everything cleaned and back to normal after we return. I'm not positive I will get the tree down before we leave though.

I'm also trying to get back to better eating. Also need to cut down on alcohol. I always feel better if I'm not drinking but I do love wine with dinner and a cocktail once in a while. I've been having what I think is arthritic pain lately so I want to cut down on sugar and alcohol - 2 big culprits in inflammation.
  • Decorations are still up!  There are 12 days of Christmas!!

I took off last week and we hosted on Monday so several days were just associated with clean up.  The rest of the week was some cleaning and organizing and I camped with Chiquita for two nights in the north end of the state.

We had a quiet NYE at home and everyone made it to midnight.  Yesterday we stayed low and I did some standard clean up to get ready for the week.

Our decorations are also still up, and we are working our way through the Bonne Maman 12 days of Christmas jams and spreads.

And it’s DD2’s 6th birthday (the one who didn’t make it), if we all want a checkpoint for how long we’ve been on the boards.
May you have some peace in what today means for DD.  My niece said her two younger sisters are 'growing up with God'.
