Timeline Help

Help! I am unsure how to structure my wedding day while including everything my fiancée and I want.
For starters, we have access to our venue starting at 8 AM on the wedding day. We are using the space for both the ceremony and reception. Tentatively, we would like our ceremony to start at 5:00 and only last 30 min MAX. The venues allows us to use the cocktail hour space for one hour while the ceremony space is being flipped for the reception. Where I am feeling stressed is during that time. My fiancée and I would prefer not to do a first look before the ceremony and I would like to be able to get as many photos as we can without each other before the ceremony. During that cocktail hour is when I would like to take pictures that include the two of us together. Family photos could occur as soon as the ceremony concludes right outside the venue. We are wanting to travel about 1 block down the street for our wedding party and bride/groom photos if possible - we would be willing to rent transportation of some kind. Is this a feasible task to complete during the cocktail hour time? Or should I just be okay with taking photos at our venue? What are some possible timeline ideas for a set up like this?

Re: Timeline Help

  • If you want to do photos somewhere else do them before the ceremony rather than after.   It's not fair to your guests or photographer.

Also, I regret not doing a first look.  I went with tradition but honestly think a first look would have helped with a lot of the butterflies plus it allows the other photos to happen.
  • DD was married in Chicago and did some pictures after the ceremony at locations there. They made it to the cocktail hour in time to mingle with some guests. I always thought the cocktail hour was to entertain your guests while getting pictures taken.
  • To add to your question:

I'd do as many photos as you can w/ your BP starting around 2 PM if you want them in a separate location.  Do them as the ladies for as much as possible and then do a first look around 3 PM and start to do photos with the rest of the WP.  Conclude photos so you can be at your venue space for 4:30 in prep to refresh make up, deodorant, dress, eat  a snack if needed and use bathroom facilities.

Then after the wedding, do the photos at the venue during the cocktail hour.  Guests expect that you'll take photos during the cocktail hour but will not want that time to last more than an hour.  They'll get restless, hungry and will feel ignored.

For @ILoveBeachMusic I agree the rest of the photos should be taken in the cocktail hour.  But the OP needs to work with the photographer about the qty that can realistically be taken in the hour.  When a cocktail hour goes too long after the ceremony the guests get stir crazy.
