Wedding Woes

Tuesday

How's everyone?  Midterms week here at work so it's slightly different, which is nice.  How's everyone else?

Re: Tuesday

  • Pushing through!

Chiquita took a hard soccer ball hit to the head Sunday night.  We scanned her for concussion symptoms and she's passing all tests but her head is bothering her.  Despite the request to stay off screens she was glued to her phone.  Today it's 'get home and get your homework done and leave your phone away from you day.'

We promised parents of a friend of Chiquito that he can sleep over on Monday night while they're OOT for work travel and so I need to make an effort to get the house in better shape.
  • Poor Chiquita! It hurts just thinking of anything touching my head!

SSDD for me.  We have icey/ slippery weather conditions till toon and I have plans at 6.  They say it should clear by then.  It’s actually a reschedule from two Tuesday’s ago when we had a storm.  Why do we get bad weather on my WFH days when I’m bored all day and WANT to get out of the house?
On Dec 30th I mentioned that I signed up for bodi on demand. I remember liking beachbody on demand years ago.  I found out that they lost more than 1/2 of the workouts and pretty much ALL the ones BB is known for.  Nope.  Not for me. I’m so glad they had a 30 day money back guarantee.  It’ll be cheaper to buy the classics (I actually own a few still I have to get back from my mom lol) and use them the old fashioned way.  Now.  To find out if my bluray still works……I can’t remember the last time I used that thing! If it doesn’t do they still sell dvd players? Joking but not joking .  Do people still use them?

  • Oof. Sorry about Chiquita! I hope she recovers without any issue! That was the reason H had to quit soccer and rugby (he played his whole life and in college). His doctor sat him down and was like “any more concussions and you risk permanent damage” and H decided college sports weren’t worth it because even at that level the odds of going pro are small. He was also constantly doing headers so that didn’t  help. I think kids sports now probably (hopefully) have more rules to help promote safe playing.

I didn’t get called into jury duty so I’m at work today. Womp womp. Yesterday was really nice and I finally felt like I was starting to relax but then bam, weekend is over. Oh well. It’s still cold here (for us). A lot of flooding has been happening with the rain. Luckily we are doing okay. The garage flooded a little but we set up the pump and that helped.

  • @banana468 owch! Hopefully she's okay. BK smacked her head on a plantar, no issues but she mentioned it still hurt a bit {likely stung because of location}

Waiting on meeting today. Likely taking offer with current job.
  • The "good" thing is that she knows she's likely done with soccer after this year.  The way it works in our area is that regardless of age after 8th grade you try out for the HS.  She's small for her age and not nearly as competitive as some others so she may ref or just stop.

  • @CharmedPam as of a couple of years ago Amazon had DVD players. I bought one for H because ours had died and we still have a ton of them.

Hope all continues to go well for Chiquita. The screen thing is so hard, I'm sure. I've said many times I'm glad I didn't have to deal with that with my kids.

Boys in The Boat was so good! I want to reread the book now. I also told H I would see it again with him if he wanted - he enjoyed the book too. We went to PF Chang's for dinner after the movie. It fixed my craving for chinese food that I have had for a couple of weeks - not many chinese restaurants around here.

The weather is cool, gray and rainy. Just want to stay inside and puppy snuggle.

@banana468, Ouch!  I hope Chiquita starts feeing better today.

@mrsconn23, Happy birthday!  Congrats on some facetime with the bigwigs.

My bigwig story.  The company I previously worked for had 40K employees nationwide.  We were finishing a major project, giant floodwalls to protect New Orleans.  It was even featured on a tv show called Mega Engineering.  All these top people were coming for a site visit.

The site required steel toed boots for anyone going there.  We kept about 6 pairs in the office as loaners.  I sent an e-mail to all the participants to let me know if they were going to borrow a pair and what size.

I get a phone call from a friendly sounding guy.  He says, "Hi Jennifer, this is John Richardson (fake name) and I understand you're the person to talk to about boots?"  I almost dropped the phone.  That was the CEO of the whole frickin' company!  I assume he has an assistant, so was pretty surprised he was calling me directly.

He wanted to check if we had size 13.  We actually did not.  But I told him we would definitely have a pair of size 13 boots for him.  As soon as I got off the phone, my hunt for size 13 boots that could get there in time for their visit commenced, lol!  I ordered two pairs just to be safe and when they came in, wrote his name on the box for one of them.

I worked at that job for two years.  Great job the first year, exciting project.  Became very toxic the second year (sigh).  But the contacts I made there helped me get the job I currently have.

Edited to add:  @charlotte989875, that sounds so scary!  I'm glad Baby J responded well and you all are back home.

Thank you! You’ve been through it worse with G. It’s all scary but so thankful he’s home!
  • Ugh. H’s company effed up his leave really badly. Well not his company but the vendor they use to manage leave. He’s been on the phone almost an hour and from what I can overhear from the next room they don’t have a record of his claim even though he has an absence number. He was supposed to go back on Thursday and wanted to extend until Monday and discovered it doesn’t exist. He’s trying really hard not to yell.
  • Nothing too big going on.  I was supposed to see Galaxy Quest on the big screen last night and the movie theatre closed b/c of the weather.  I don't mind at all, but I want to see Galaxy Quest!!!  Everyone is trying to find out if they're rescheduling the viewing.  However, I'm going to a movie party for Goonies with a good friend who has never seen it and I'm super excited.

@charlotte989875 that's horrifying.  Big purple vibes that gets figured out. Glad J is feeling better, you guys have had a rough start.

Are they refusing to acknowledge the # he's quoting?    Hopefully he can walk that up the food chain of incompetence.
  • I’m so sorry @charlotte989875. I hope J feels better soon and continues to heal well. And that’s terrible about your H’s leave. How frustrating.

  • Happy Birthday @mrsconn23!

@charlotte989875 I hope baby J continues to respond well, and that you get a chance to get caught up on sleep!

Hurry up and wait day at work .... right now I am waiting.  But the hurry up is imminent, lol.  I really do hate waiting on people when I know that I'm going to be crazy busy once I have what I need from them.

I feel for him.  Our leave company is the absolute worst.   I knew they sucked when I took leave a few years ago and it took until the end of my leave for it to be approved (after a nastygram from my therapist), but being in management has opened my eyes to a whole new level of suck from them.

Being annoying AF is what I've learned.  Just harass them on every level an every day until they get it right.

Does he have any confirmation e-mails or texts from them?  Do they have a site/portal where he can view claims?  I hope so.  ((hugs))   Have a bourbon at 2pm after dealing with that fuckery, I say.  ;)
  • He has one claim number but when he logs into the portal it’s not there. They seem to have just lost it somehow. So he had to submit a new one and they said they’d have someone contact him in 1-2 days. But he plans to call everyday to check on it and make sure everything is moving forward the way it should.

Is it Lincoln Financial Group?  That's our leave provider and they are just terrible.  I have a work friend who's been venting to me about her issues with a leave (which is something she didn't plan on doing in advance, it was kind of an emergent situation) and asking for tips since she knows I've had people on my team that were on leaves recently.
  • Minor annoyance of the day.  I'm a big Dave Matthews Band fan.  In 2023 I saw them in CT for their summer and fall tour.  They announced their summer 2024 tour dates and aren't in CT at all.  Bummed but we'll have to see them another time.  The other shows near us are either over 4th of July weekend or close to dates when we're seeing Foo Fighters in NYC.

Not a big issue but a bit of a bummer.
  • So sorry to hear about the J struggles @charlotte989875. Hope things look up soon
    happy birthday @mrsconn23!
i had an issue with my time off balance years ago and since then, I’ve kept my own spreadsheet.  I balance it every now and then to make sure. Probably doesn’t help in your situation though, @charlotte989875, since it sounds like his requests went *poof*.

  • I am majorly in a funk today. Just angry and tired and i think it's the BC pill i started a few months ago. I hate being on it very much but until H schedules a vasectomy i feel like it's the best option. Just really hitting me this month.

Work is annoying, home is fine, SSDD really.

I got yelled at last weekend for also never having seen it. Maybe this is a sign that I should?

SSDD here. I'm in a funk and don't know why. I think I'll make myself a snack and dissociate on the internet for a little while to see if I can shake it.
  • I super loved Goonies when I was young.  It hasn't aged particularly well, but then again, it was never meant to be an "adults are safe and your friends" movie, it's a "I have to save the adults b/c they're all horrible" movie.  It was one of my favorite movies growing up and still has amazing nostalgia for me.
  • The only HR benefits issue I've had was years ago at a previous job.  They claimed I hadn't signed up for health insurance in my new hire paperwork and I'd have to wait until open enrollment to join it, which was almost a year later.

Oh, HELL NO!  I especially need health insurance and most certainly had signed up.  I dug out my copy of my paperwork and provided HR with the proof.  I was worried I was going to have to battle them, but they got it fixed quickly.  Unfortunately, I found out at the doctor's so had to pay for the appointment out of pocket.  And then it was a hassle and a long wait when I requested reimbursement from the insurance.

Good luck to your H, @charlotte989875.  I hope he gets everything sorted out soon.  Red tape always feels so helpless when companies do you wrong.

I previously had a coworker who argued for 6 hours straight on the phone with the hospital she'd delivered her baby at.  Unfortunately for them, she was a Contracts Administrator and had gone over all of her bills with a fine tooth comb.  I don't remember all the billing issues, but it came out to almost $4K in wrong/incorrect charges.  But she eventually got everything corrected.
