We follow Woodstock Willie who did not see his shadow. I can think of a million things better to do than get up early and fight the crowds to see if a rodent sees his shadow or not. Because we all know there’s no science behind it. Oh, and not a million things.  Just one. Sleep.
Edit; I googled to see Phil didn’t see his either. *puts away my winter boots*

"So if Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce get married, will she be Taylor Swift Kelce or Taylor Kelce Swift or Taylor Kelce?"

Dude - you need to calm down!

DH's birthday is tomorrow.  Two nice bottles of bourbon I ordered are delayed so he gets them Monday but I ordered Japanese Kit Kats and a neck massager for him because we're in our mid 40s now and he's been complaining of pains.  Tomorrow night Chiquita babysits and we have dinner reservations.  I need to run out at lunch for cards and Carvel cake.

But most importantly, what table does your family have at the wedding? 😉

i saw this in the news today and thought the headline was funny.  It’s a definition of what a first world problem is.  “Hon, we can’t land our private jet in Vegas.  We have to fly commercial now. I’m outraged! Outraged!”
I didn’t read the article. Not sure (or care) what her plans are.  I just love the wealth in America.

  • At the DSs' daycare they had all the kids make predictions yesterday about whether the groundhog would see his shadow, and invited DD to do so also when she came by to pick up the boys with me. This morning DH asked Alexa because the kids were still all about it, and she reported that Phil did not see his shadow. This was the opposite of what DS1 (4yo) had predicted, and he burst into actual tears. So thanks, groundhogs. (But it was also a little bit funny.)
  • LOL!  I guess she's playing in Tokyo the night before so she has to figure out how to get to Vegas.

And of course, now right wingers care about the economy because Taylor Swift flies in a private jet.
  • have a 1-1 with my boss this morning and then just some steady plugging along on a non-urgent project. I have to run to Macy's at lunch to request a price adjustment on the dresses I bought last week. They were on sale last week online when i got home but I didn't get the sale price in store? Saving 75-80 per dress would be nice and worth the drive.

Went to the Chiropractor last night for the first time in 6 weeks and i can actually move my neck now, but wow, the muscles are sore! Going to do my favorite Yoga with Adrienne this afternoon to stretch a bit.
  • @banana468, what are special about Japanese Kit Kats?

@CharmedPam, the dark truth about Punxsutawney Phil predictions:

How accurate is Punxsutawney Phil? His Groundhog Day predictions aren't great, data shows. (msn.com)

The gist if you don't want to read the article.  He sees his shadow the vast majority of the time, 107 times vs. 19 times.  He is only 40% accurate.  A coin toss would statistically be more accurate than poor Phil.  But groundhogs are pretty cute for a rodent, so his chances for good photo ops are 100%.

From a business standpoint, I've always been impressed by Punxsutawney, PA.  They created a funny tradition that brings tourists and money in once a year.

Some errands to run after work.  Then probably a nap, lol.  I'm still trying to go through all my clothes.  I don't know how I have acquired so many clothes, but it is massive amounts.  I swear I hardly ever buy any and tend to wear the same 20ish pieces.  But I also have a hard time getting rid of clothes if they are still in good shape and I would wear.

Another conundrum, though a good one, is the weight I've lost over the last 7 months.  Though that has dramatically slowed down over the last two months (sigh).  I will have to go through my clothes again when I am getting ready to move, because I don't know what size I will be at that time.  A lot of the clothes I am currently wearing are barely hanging on because they are too big.  I've also rediscovered some clothes because they were previously a little too tight and now they fit.

That is some of what is taking extra time.  I've been trying things on to figure out how well they fit.  But then I don't want to get rid of clothing that is too tight because that's the size I might need a couple months from now.

But come about a month before moving day, any clothes that don't fit...whether too big or too small...are going to Goodwill.  If that means I have to buy more clothes later on, then so be it.  I am too overwhelmed with stuff.

  • @short+sassy the flavors are really unique!  I've had green tea, fruit combinations and other interesting choices.  They aren't a standard milk chocolate.
  • Apologies for the image size - here's what they look like:

Fun!  I found some on Amazon.  Sometimes it IS an amazing world we live in!  Getting food from all over the world.

I had a friend in elementary school whose mother was Japanese.  Her family would visit Japan every 1-2 years and she'd bring back all these different and fun candies that you couldn't get in the US.

Amazon gets a lot of well deserved hate.  But they bring the world to my door, which didn't exist much before them.  E-bay somewhat also.

I found my all-time favorite shampoo (Gee Your Hair Smells Terrific) on Ebay.  It was discontinued in the US 40 years ago, but is still in the Philippines.  Or at least it was.  There used to be a number of listings for around $20/bottle plus shipping.  Nice to see, but I wasn't going to pay that.

I just checked again and the only listing is from CA.  $50 for a bottle!  It's a new bottle but the seller doesn't know how old it is (side eye).  I'm not paying $50 for a bottle of shampoo.  Especially one that might be 40 years old, lol.

  • Did anyone see the Fox News segment claiming the Pentagon has created Taylor Swift’s persona as a covert psy-op? It’s absolutely insane. Every once in awhile I think “hey, maybe I’m just in an echo chamber and I’m hearing blown up exaggerations about what’s on Fox News” and then I see something like this and I’m like nope, this is batshit and it’s kind of disheartening that a huge swath of the population swallows this hook, line, and sinker.

‘Watters on Tuesday, during his show Jesse Watters Primetime, told viewers that “around four years ago, the Pentagon’s psychological operations unit floated turning Taylor Swift into an asset.”

He then showed a clip from a 2019 conference organized by the NATO Cooperative Cyber Defense Center of Excellence, where a presenter appears to name Taylor Swift merely as an example of a powerful influencer.

“It’s real. The Pentagon psy-op unit pitched NATO on turning Taylor Swift into an asset for combating misinformation online,” Watters said.‘

Otherwise SSDD. Making it through the rest of the day and then tomorrow we have my grandfather’s 91st bday party.

If you have a World Market/Cost Plus near you, they sell a lot there too

  • Work vent.  On the Monday afternoon meeting I hate, it was discovered I hadn't prepared a rebar package.

Yes.  It's amazing how that happens when I received zero e-mails about this package, much less one that asks me to prepare it, smh.

No one was upset with me or anything.  But I was both amused and annoyed by it.

It's not the usual lead engineer I work with and I realize he may not fully understand how it works.  But at the same time, this isn't the first package I've done for this project and he would have seen I'm always sent a request when a package is ready to be prepared.

Because while I possess many skills to get the work done that my role requires,  clairvoyance is not one of them.

Dear god, I remember that shampoo.  Nowadays you can just spray some oils in after a regular shampoo if you only liked it for the scent. Come to think of it, I haven’t found a shampoo that has floored me.  They all do the same. Wash it.

  • We also have "early spring" predictions - which based on weather now, I'd be surprised if it wasn't lol

Weekend plans - celebration of life for buddy's dad. Russian Orthodox, so soul made it to heaven now.
I think M is going to store to get new tv mount for wall afterwards.

Sunday - going for brunch with friends.
One friend apparently has news about personal life but won't tell us and we won't guess. So i'm clearly dying lol

I always forget about them.  They do have a lot of food items you can't find elsewhere and many of them are international foods.

I checked their website.  They DO have a few flavors of the Japanese Kit Kats.  Including the Matcha green tea ones, which seemed to be a favorite in the reviews.

I remember loving the cherry flavored Clearly Canadian sparkling water when I was in jr. high/HS.

I'm not sure when they disappeared off the shelves, but probably sometime in my early 20s at least.

20 years later, I found them again the first time I walked into a World Market!

Snapple is still on my shit list for discontinuing their Mint tea.  I'd heard rumors you could still find them on the East Coast, but were rare.  On my first trip to NYC...which was 15ish years since I'd last had one...I'd found a hit list of places that still carried it in the city.  One was walking distance to my hotel!  Yes!  I bought six bottles.  Drank one the same day of course, lol.  And carefully packed the other 5.  Those precious 5 are now long gone.

That trip was over 10 years ago and I haven't been able to find them again on subsequent ones.  Or online (sigh).

  • Only a couple hours left of work, seeing the local middle school musical tonight.  Tomorrow is exH’s birthday as well as my youngest niece’s (she’ll be two!).  The kids really want to celebrate their dad (cards are made, I’m helping them make a cake tonight) so hoping he opens the door. I’ll be at my sister’s and BILs regardless, just not sure where my kids will be.
Sunday is the usual- mass and prep cooking - with a swim meet from 12-4 thrown in.

I hope she is always Taylor Allison Swift
  • We have used famous folx as spies before, but we all know that's not why Faux News is hepped up about Swift.  I'm not a huge fan -- I think she can write a great bop, but I'd never see her or anything.  But the just ginourmous amount of outrage she seems to generate based on her being a woman  **gasp** as a serial dater **gasp** who can leave men whenever she wants **gasp** and seems to do some serious good with her monies and influence **gasp** (for a me, a liberal anyway), makes me so damn happy that I might just buy an album.

Maybe he'll become Travis Swift.  It's kind of a badass name for a football player.

I've bought a variety case of NA wine that I like and a variety case of NA spirits that I like for my party.  Then I'll be sitting down to make my lists of what drinks I want to do.  I'll have 2 batch drinks (b/c I have the drink containers for them) and then I think like...2 or 3 mocktails we can make. I should probably just buy a case of club soda too.  I'm going full bougie, b/c I want to, so I'm getting disposable coupe glasses, some fancy ice molds, and cocktail salt.  I also htink I want a ring light to do a photo booth, but I haven't quite figured that out yet.  I'm debating garnishes.  They do make a lovely accompaniment, but I think they're a PITA.  Also trying to figure out how I want ot handle barware.  I might see if I can just rent a small amount so that I have more than one shaker, etc.  Also, a bunch of my friends are coming in from out of town and I'm just really so excited and happy about that.  I'm trying to keep it easy and smooth.  I used to really love party planning and organizing, but after so many years of community service in that area, I was burnt out.  I want this to be a good experience for me.  Oh and, we have an amazing vegan ice cream place in town that I'm going to get my cake from!  One of my friends said, "I want it to be known that I RSVP'd yes BEFORE you told me the cake was from [local business]" b/c we both adore their ice cream so much and can eat it (lactose intolerance).
  • @VarunaTT as mom of a 13 yo I'm in the prime age of 'take your daughter to Taylor Day'.  I likely wouldn't buy the tickets for myself but it they weren't coming at such a premium I'd take Chiquita and Chiquito.  I can get behind the songs and am absolutely on board that she's encouraging humans to make strong choices, vote, and absolutely not be a jerk.  Bonus points that in what we've seen thus far it's about 20 years of following her and she's not someone who has had public struggles with addiction.  It doesn't mean I wouldn't take my kid to see someone who has publicly battled with substance abuse but for posters to put on the wall and people to emulate, yeah Chiquita can go for it.

And it's Chiquito who needs to hear two TS songs before starting his nightly reading.   Good on you kiddo.
  • For anyone who is thinking listening to some Taylor Swift I recommend folklore. It’s such a good album and a less poppy than some of her more famous ones!

I can see her legally hyphenating her last name, but publicly not announcing it

Just had my second job interview for a new role.  I think it went well, but now I am wiped.  Ready for the weekend for sure!
I don't get the hysteria behind Taylor Swift but .... if you think about Elvis Presley, the Beatles, and some other acts that blew up huge, some people just really really love musicians.  Her songs can be catchy, but I don't go out of my way to listen.
My vote is for Travis Swift.
    Good luck!

I like Taylor Swift and her songs.  But I've never been a rabid fan of anyone.  I think it would be crazy for her to change her name.  A famous person's name is a big part of their brand.

With that said, Taylor is way more famous than Travis.  Changing his name to Travis Swift is both a cool sounding name for an athlete and would probably bring him more fame.  But also understandable if he kept his own name.

It's fun to surmise.  But they'll pick the names they are happiest with.
