Tuesday

Phew!  I got a good nights sleep and am feeling a lot better today.  Almost human!

The bathroom still needs a little work.  But it looks great and so refreshed!  It's funny how it's only when we start thinking about selling that we're finally fixing some of the things that have bugged me since I bought the house 12 years ago.  For example, there is a thin strip of wall (2") between the tub tiled area and the laundry closet.  The previous owners didn't do any taping when they painted that strip.  So there was all this sage green paint slopped on to the side edge of the laundry closet.  Now that edge is totally white the way it always should have been.  Aaaahhhh (contented sigh).

@Casadena, I'm glad you're little boys got some good sleep last night also!  Which in turns me you probably did too, lol.  Those sound like such fun activities for them.  Guacamole for breakfast sounds great to me!  I often use those 100-calorie packs of avocado/guac on my eggs.

@mrsconn23, I'm glad you all had great time in PR!  Other than the traveling part of it.  It seems like air travel nowadays has problems more often than it doesn't.  But that was some especially crazy things you all had happen.

I don't remember the specifics, but an NFL player who has T1 diabetes was on a flight where someone fainted/was unconscious.  Something like that.  Just like you all, there were medical professionals on board including a doctor who helped that person.  The NFL guy loaned them his glucometer so the person's blood sugar could be checked.  The BG level was fine, but it was helpful to be able to rule out that out so quickly.

Oof on all the snafus @mrsconn23 but glad it was a great trip! I love Old San Juan (and Delta) too.
Yay for the sleep @short+sassy and @Casadena
Pretty ssdd. Counseling later, and it’s sunny for the fourth day in a row here which after a long gray stretch is appreciated.

I hear you on little things that need to get done and bother you @short+sassy, glad that’s all taken care of
We ordered mexican food yesterday at work and they squeezed lime juice on the avocado pieces in my bowl and it seriously made the world of difference.  Like why haven’t we been marinating avocado’s in lime juice all this time?
sounds like the rainforest and PR would have been fab @mrsconn23.  Scary about that incident.  On our cruise in December someone started choking in the buffet room.  Two people ran to his aid and honestly saved his life.  One was redcross certified and one was a doctor.  Staff weren’t even called until after his life was saved and medical had to go from floor 1 to 15 for it too! Crazy.

Ugh.  I’m coming down with something.  Sore throat, achey, light headiness, minor coughing.  But I’m glad it’s happening before my big week of fun coming up.

Not too much going on.  My friend who wanted to see the movie last night canceled on me, which I was fine with.  I was only going b/c I liked the friend and the movie, but I had no real drive to see it again.  I'm supposed to go tonight as well, but I'm rethinking it for myriad of reasons.

I'm feeling badly for my mom (/grandmother).  When we had dad's (/grandfather)'s memorial, my aunt T apparently went through a bunch of stuff at my mom's house.  She also apparently decided to take some things that were not hers to take.  Aunt T has now denied taking anything when my mother asked about it.  Mom is very upset, as well she should be.  I think mom is also struggling with feeling gaslit, which always sucks, but when you're 80+ years old and worried about your aging mind, it sucks a lot more.  Aunt T has a pretty good track history of just lying her ass off, about weird and unnecessary things (to me anyway).

The other weird thing is this:  what she took were envelopes of photos and albums that had been labeled for all the kids and grandkids.  She took everyone's (5 in total including hers) except mine.  I guffawed (literally, I think I made that very noise).  I have no doubt that my Aunt T is terrified of me and I'm perfectly fine keeping it that way.  Aunt T also asked for my phone number, which is interesting.  The only worry I have about that is if Aunt T is in touch with my bio mother and gives her the number (which Aunt T has done before) who I have been no contact with for 30+ years.  But I'll deal with that if/when it happens.

    Otherwise, SSDD.

    Weekend was good.
Saturday at the celebration of life was really just eating philippeno food and chatting.
    It was nice.

Sunday I did brunch with friends, which was really nice :)
Afternoon i crashed. BK & i took a nap, so unfortunately BK was up late also.

3.5 bags gone {extra half bag included because one bag was MASSIVE} for donation.
Few things aren't able to be saved for donation, so they're being sent to trash.
But they're basement things, so I'm not super upset.

I got to bed on time last night after the late to bed for me on Sunday post-Grammys and slept SO well!

It's SSDD here trying to cram work in now before I take a 1/2 day on Thursday to hang w/ Chiquita getting infused.   I'm told we should be all set after the recent billing fiasco and she's been so crampy we need to get this in.

potluck day with a catered lunch (Rescheduled from last week) was NOT the day to wear new rigid jeans. I just unbuttoned my pants at my desk. So that's where I am today.

I'm sorry to hear your Aunt T is such a horrible person, a thief, and has upset your mother.

It's bad enough when relatives go ransacking someone's house after everyone in that house has passed away.

But she had no business taking ANYTHING.  That's your mom's house and everything in it is hers.  Or offer to go through things and then ask your mom about things she wants to keep.

Hopefully your mom doesn't give Aunt T your number.  Obviously there is no reason she needs it and has shown she can't be trusted with it.

Aunt T sucks @VarunaTT, I’m sorry! And hope she doesn’t get your number.
@banana468 im not usually an award show person but heard great things about the Grammys this year, I keep trying to find some performances on YouTube, etc. Sounds like it was worth staying up for!

I don't usually watch awards shows.  They aren't my thing, so I find them a bit boring.

But especially for the Oscars, I'll find a website the next day that shows all the red carpet outfits because I like the fancy gowns porn!

If you haven’t watched the Tracy Chapman + Luke Combs Fast Car performance from the Grammys you really should!

I have some feels about Luke Combs covering Fast Car, but it was amazing to see Tracy Chapman again.  Her smile when the crowd wouldn't stop cheering her was so special.

Glad you finally got some sleep! Both our boys slept through the night for the first time in a couple weeks and actually got up at 6:15 ish! They've been sleeping later lately and then everyone is rushed to get out the door, not good. Even if we wake them up, they're crabby and groggy and don't go any faster.

Potluck day at work today so i had dip and guacamole for breakfast - not mad about it. Also, i finally got the boys signed up for a couple activities! The music class they wanted filled up of course, but they're on the waitlist. But i got them into a mini Ninja Warriors class! At 2 and 4 it basically sounds like obstacle course gymnastic stuff? Should get out some energy at least. G got signed up for the golf lessons he wanted too :)
The little grandson is in a ninja warriors class in their park district. He loves it!

    Loved seeing her again!!

Curious about your feelings on this. I don’t know much about him at all, and I’ve heard his cover a few times, a lot of the coverage seemed pretty positive.

Thanks for the link @charlotte989875 it was the full performance!  It's since been taken down but glad I got to see.  I feel like the Grammys or some power that be is pulling some sort of copyright issue this year bc it's never been this hard finding full performance videos.

Fun fact but "Fast Car" is the first pop / non-kid song I liked.  My mom had just had my youngest siblings (they're twins), I was almost four and younger sis was 2.5, she'd been all about nursery rhymes, Raffi, sing-a-longs, Sesame Street, etc., but I think with four kids under four she must've just needed "her" music sometimes so made the switch.  We sang along to Fast Car every time.  (Also on the list were Man in the Mirror and Joni Mitchell's Chalk Mark album. One of my earliest memories :)

I thought the intro video of Luke Combs at the Grammy's was really great and did a great job highlighting his very obvious and intense respect and awe of Tracy Chapman! I was a little "eh" on the fact that a male country artist was covering her song, but it seemed really well done. Did either of you watch that? Curious on your thoughts too.

It's a queer anthem song, coming from a queer black artist.  While I'm sure it resonates with many people, Tracy Chapman was one of the few openly queer artists, especially in the late 80s and 90s.  Knowing her background, then that song's lyrics just....summarized everything about being a queer kid.  I can remember when I was first questioning my sexuality and friends introducing me to her and just starting to cry when I heard this particular song because it just hit all those thoughts, wants, needs, and confusion.  (Also, just for clarification, Tracy has never "officially come out"; she had a partner out her in 2006, but everyone knew she was queer, she just never talked about it, but also didn't hide it).

I know that Luke Combs has talked about his love of Tracy Chapman, his love of this particular song, and that is was the first song he learned to play.  I think he comes from a place of love and respect and I try to honor that; having said that, it's hard when a cishet white man (presumably het, he's in a het appearing relationship anyway) covers a song that is a queer anthem.  Add in that he's a country artist, a genre not exactly known for being welcoming to the queer and black communities, and it just makes me bristle a bit.  I hope it'll open some doors, but it's hard (especially in current times) to not feel like something was stolen from us.

@VarunaTT a queer friend posted about how the performance was unifying but I can definitely see both sides.

After trying to catch all of them what I can say is that I'm....missing something that makes Travis Scott popular.  I don't know much about him and felt like his performance was a lot of folding chair tossing.

The fact that Tracy has been so gracious and also performed with him, means she's okay with it, and so I'm trying to be as well.  I don't actively hate it or have really negative feelings, I just feel a bit bristly when it comes on.

I can also see the big difference between liking the radio version and the actual Grammy performance because the performance is specifically seeing Chapman perform rather than hear her song covered.   So there's still the potential reaction to like only that one version.

I can also say that if he had covered..pretty much any of her other songs (with one exception I can think of), I don't think I would've cared.  It's this specific song.
