Friday!

VERY ready for the weekend.

Re: Friday!

  • Same.

Trying to figure out how to arrange my weekend. Monday is impossibly busy so at some point I’d like to relax. Otherwise today is looking rough.

  • Happy National Pizza Day (if you celebrate it with ham & pineapple, all others I don’t wish you a happy national pizza day because you don’t know how to eat it properly).  I had pizza for breakfast without even knowing it!

TGIF.  We made it! Tattoo tomorrow (unless my cough gets worse but it has subsided), and then a superbowl party on Sunday.  It’s potluck so I’m bringing a chop chop salad. Last night I started True Detective because I keep seeing the season 4 trailers.  I’m on the fence if I like it or not.  I wasn’t aware 10 years had gone by since season 1 but I do remember it being advertised now that I saw it. Plus, I love me some Matthew McConaughey.

  • Beyond ready for the weekend.  This week has been an 'out of the frying pan, into the fire' kind of week.

We're playing some catch up this weekend and then just hanging out.  Not having a big to-do for the Superbowl, but I am planning a spread because why not?  LOL  I'm excited to see the halftime show and there's a good line up of pregame performers.
  • OMG @Casadena, that's exciting news! I can also see how it's nerve-wracking, but I'm sure you're beyond ready to move on from this phase of the process and find your new normal.  ((hugs))
  • That’s great news! @Casadena I know it probably comes with a lot of big feelings and worry too so all of the hugs as you guys navigate that. So cute about the aquarium.

  • That sounds adorbs @Casadena.  Dumb question, because I still don’t know a lot about cancer and treatment but can you finish in May but then realize later that you need it again, can it be picked back up?

@Casadena, That's adorable G was showing N around!  The snack area does sound like one of the important places to show first, lol.

That is incredible news!  I hope G's doctor agrees with no hesitation that it is okay to end his treatments a year early.  Good luck to you all.

It was so nice to get my final "hurrah" in with the Mardi Gras parade I went to last night.  Though on a bit of a downside, while I had fun, it was a lot worse than previous years I've gone.  They weren't throwing very much, whereas usually it's a lot.  No logoed gloves for me!  Though actually didn't see those thrown at all.  We also had the bad luck to be near a large group who seemed pleasant enough in the beginning, but some of them turned into angry drunks as the night progressed.

Last, but not least.  The Muses parade came very late.  By the time we left, we'd only caught a third of it and it was already 10:45PM!  There are two other parades/krewes before them.  I don't know what happened to the middle one, but it got very spread out and they were the big delay.  They're kind of a "bro" krewe anyway, like their floats theme this year was "balls" (eyeroll).  It definitely would have been a better parade if they just hadn't existed in it and used up so much of my time that should have been for Muses, lol.

But someone brought in a blueberry cream cheese stuffed king cake into the office this morning, so all is well and the world feels balanced again, lol.  After work, I'm going to pick up a king cake to bring home.  I'm going to a grocery store that is famous for having them from a bunch of different local bakeries.  Kind of like a one-stop shop.  I'm really hoping to find one with an intriguing and different filling.

It's also a more high end grocery store with a lot of premade appetizers and meals, so I'm going to check that out also.  Both for the next 5 days being at home and for the Superbowl.

    Go 49ers!

  • That’s a lot @Casadena but sending all the positive vibes your way.
Thank you for that tidbit @CharmedPam!

Busy weekend here- Sweetheart Dance at the kids’ school, parents/special adults welcome, so that’s where we’ll be this evening instead of a family movie night.

DDs have a party at the American Girl Store tomorrow morning, so we’ll start the day in the city. The second half of Saturday and all of Sunday are blissfully less busy. I’ve fallen so far off sports, I forgot that Sunday was the superbowl until I got to work and the teacher who runs the pools popped in to remind some of us for money. Lol…but, guess that means fun apps for dinner. And looking into how to watch it for the commercials and halftime, but I assume it’ll be streaming on YouTube.

So, not really in the way i think you mean. If he requires treatment after the initial 2 or 3 year protocol, it means he's had a full relapse and would have to start completely over at the beginning of the process. Honestly, that's one of the biggest fears on our part of essentially skipping year of the regular chemo we thought he'd have. Boys were always on a 3 year protocol because they had a higher change of relapse than girls. But boys are also more likely to be diagnosed with leukemia in the first place and some studies didn't account for that. Newer studies are showing pretty equal chances of relapse at 2 vs 3 years. But once the treatment protocol is finished, we wont' have the regular checkups, lab work, etc. so if he would relapse it would look like last time with a lot of unexplainable sickness and fevers.

So now we're trying to weigh current recommendations/protocol we've been on for 2 years/side effects of another year of meds that may not be "worth it"/our own anxiety about relapse potential/etc etc. Hard to know if any hesitation on our part is really about the treatment/relapse potential, or just getting a pretty jarring switch in what we've had in our heads for 2 years about what the "right" treatment is.

Can’t remember where I saw it, but it said it would be the longest halftime show in history too.  Booo for it going to Usher and not the J-Lo and Shakira year. Nothing against Usher, but I can watch those two sing all day long.

  • Yesterday Chiquita had an infusion and DH took Chiquito with him to the eye doctor.  When they got home Chiquito was acting off and I took his temp - 101.3!   He was off to bed early, hardly ate and today he's acting better - still not fantastic but I'm hoping he's in better spirits tomorrow.

Tomorrow is the local Pinewood Derby for Scouts so I'm hoping he can make it and DH and I have a concert to go to.  I'm hoping for all signs of improved health!
  • No big plans for the weekend.  I'd like to clean & organize my office.  It became a dumping ground around the holidays and it's time.

Our Superbowl tradition is to make a cheesy taco soup.  I'll put that on after church and let it simmer until the game.

A win from yesterday - I needed a new keyboard for work.  I've had an ergonomic one for years and it's just worn out.  When I was onsite with my boss yesterday I asked about getting a new one.  She said of course and tried to get to our purchasing website to order.  No luck so she checked with the AA for our group who happened to have a stock of them onsite.  Great!  I went to connect it last night and it has a smaller footprint on my desk.  Love that!  As I'm unpacking it, I don't see a cord.  Hmm, turns out it's wireless - bigger win not to have another cable on my desk.  Go me lol

  • No big plans either. With J’a overnight feeding schedule, which is still like every 2-3 hours, I doubt I’ll make it to the start of the Super Bowl on Sunday!

M has a birthday party on Saturday at a kid trampoline/gym place. I know at some point I’ll probably be annoyed by birthday parties but for now I think it’s cute! Although that does remind me we haven’t gotten a gift yet!

It’s still warm and sunny in Buffalo so about to take J out for a walk and we’re picking M up early to go play outside. We did the playground last night and he was so excited. Definitely ready for the warmer weather to stick around.
  • @Casadena could you discuss what a hybrid treatment team could look like? Aka sure he may only follow up with the oncology team every year, but could they help ease fears with transferring care to PCP who could order regular standard labs like a CBC every three months?

  • @Casadena that is great news but I get about your questions! Levioosa's idea of a hybrid plan sounds good. Hope the docs can accommodate that.

This has been a long week and I don't even know why. Today was a play day. A friend's birthday is next week. There is a surprise party planned for her (it is a milestone bday). Normally another friend and I take her out to lunch so we went ahead and planned it for today so she didn't get suspicious. We had a great lunch at a place called Cake Bake. It is a pricey place but for once a year it is fun. Afterwards we did some shopping then back to the bday girl's house for bubbly. When I got home, H just about had dinner ready (I wasn't very hungry though). We are having other friends over for dinner tomorrow night so I need to fix the dessert tonight.

    Have a great weekend WW!
