Train or No Train

Why get a train on your dress? Why avoid a train?
It basically seems nicer to have one but I'm unsure of the cons of that.

Re: Train or No Train

  • The type of wedding you have could dictate whether you have a train or not. A very casual wedding wouldn't necessarily have a train. However, it is also a personal preference. I had a very long train because the church aisle was very long. It was more dramatic that way. Do what you want to do I don't there are really any rules about trains.
  • Thanks. I mostly wondered people's experience. I know some brides don't like the look of a bustle. That's not really a concern for me. The bustle is just a practical option, not an enhancement of the look.
  • The bustle gets the train out of the way so that people aren't stepping on the dress accidentally all night long!  It also makes twirling on the dance floor easier!

It's really about your personal preference and style, nothing more, nothing less.  Same for longer or shorter wedding dresses/gowns!
  • some people said they were fine without a bustle -- that a loop on the train was still helpful to go across the lawn to take photos. People are looking at you, not your bustle. haha.
  • I had such a fight with my mom about adding a bustle.  My seamstress refused and my mom backed her up so I said "Fine I'm getting a broach to do this".  She flat out did not understand the concept and was one of the few times I busted out the profanity in the wedding planning saying "The f*cking dress is going to have a f*cking bustle!"  If you have a train I can't imagine not wanting one.   I knew so many brides complain about people stepping on their trains in the receiving line I can't imagine what they'd do throughout the reception that involves food and beverages.
