Wedding Woes

Monday

Weekend was good.  On Saturday my friends and i went to a night at broadway gala to support the academy of arts and it was spectacular.  Four Broadway stars sang three songs each in an hour and a half long concert.  We all want to go again next year (we love musicals) plus it’s always nice to dress up and get out for a night like that.
Sunday was nothing.  Prep for my conference and now I’m on the tarmac with at least a 20 minute delay. Booo

Re: Monday

  • I ended up catching N's stomach bug and was sick all day on Saturday and wasn't able to go to our gala. SIL went with H for awhile and IL's came over to babysit like they were going to anyway so I could sleep. H ended up getting sick late Saturday night. I felt better yesterday morning and took G out to lunch and to a birthday party, then we played outside since it was 65 degrees.
  • It was gorgeous yesterday! But of course the day I go out (this Saturday and last) it’s freezing cold.  I’m so sorry you couldn’t go @Casadena, that’s a bummer because I knew you were looking forward to it.

  • @CharmedPam, that sounds like such a fun event!  I hope you enjoy your conference this week.

@Casadena, Oh no!  I'm so sorry to hear you missed the gala!  I'm glad you are at least starting to feel better.

I ran errands on Friday and Sunday.  Freshly stocked fridge, pantry, and prescriptions are done for another month.

I started back on an exercise program yesterday.  That is if I count "one day" as being back on it.  Which I do, lol.  For me, it is more getting back in the habit.  Biked on my stationary bike for 40 minutes.  I set it to a lower resistance level than I used to do, but was impressed with myself I was able to ride for that long.  I wasn't very tired or even sweating that much, but want to keep this first week or so on the easier side.

Today is just the usual.  Nothing much going on.  But the weather is getting better.  It's been warm enough we haven't had the heater on at all for the last few days.

  • That sounds so fun @CharmedPam! I love musicals too. We will be back in Chicago in a couple of weeks to see My Fair Lady - tickets are our Christmas present from DD and SIL.

I'm at DD's now. The boys are at school and she is at work so I worked out this morning after I took the boys to school. Now I have the rest of the day to myself. She doesn't work the next two days so we will have some time together along with the little one. The weather is gorgeous! Yesterday after arrived GS2 wanted to show me how he can ride his bike without training wheels. Who would've thought we'd be in light jackets in Chicago in February! No complaints here.

Hope you are feeling better soon @Casadena.
  • No @casadena! I’m so sorry!!

I had strep all weekend. Feeling a bit better now that antibiotics are kicking it but still not great.

Baby feeding/ breastfeeding rant: we had to add formula to J’s milk because he wasn’t gaining weight. We did it for more than a month so I would pump and feed him bottles. I really wanted to get back to breastfeeding because, for me, it’s just so much easier. He was gaining weight well so we tried swapping a few bottles for breast. He was latching well, eating and staying awake. Great. Except he lost weight when we cut the formula. This sucks. I hate the logistics of pumping and feeding him (and then cleaning bottles and pump parts) when I should be able to just feed him directly. Ugh. I know this isn’t the worst and that fed is best but it’s still a huge bummer.
  • My weekend was good. Yesterday I ran my marathon in the morning! It was really nice here too, so we spent the afternoon outside at our local brewery. The daffodils are up and spring is really almost here.

I took the day off to mostly lay around and am finally getting caught up here. Work has been insane lately and I'm still reading two weeks of Prudie.
Way to go!! How are you feeling?
  • Oh no @Casadena I'm so sorry.  What a bummer when the kiddo illnesses sweep through the house and affect plans - especially the fun ones for the grown ups!

Weekend went well!  Saturday was Chiquita's concert which was great.  We took Chiquito and for a 4th grader he enjoyed himself.  DH visited his dad in the morning and we chilled that night.

Sunday I  had Chiquita off to religious class, Chiquito had baseball try outs and then he and Chiquita served at mass.  It was Chiquito's first time!

FIL is out of the hospital and recovering at home.  They think it was strep throat that may have spread and he continues to be on antibiotics.  The episode reinforced that MIL does not pay attention like she thinks she does and this is foreshadowing what I know is going to be more stress than DH is going to want as they age.   That said - it's a weight off him at the moment.

  • Wishing FIL a speedy recovery @banana468

i hope you guys feel better soon @Casadena and @charlotte989875

    great job! @MyNameIsNot

I’m in DMV hell right now. I made an appointment online because my license is expiring and this was the only one that was on a day off. I show up and they’re not even doing appointments. They’re making everyone wait in the same line outside. So wtf is even the difference between trying to make an appointment? I could have taken care of this weeks ago then if I was just going to show up and wait in line anyways. And I’m stuck in the line outside and it’s raining. Ugh.

Otherwise weekend was pretty good. Very chill. It’s my birthday week so I just have to make it through Thursday before I have some time off.

  • The DMV sucks, I’m sorry @levioosa
Feel better @charlotte989875 and @Casadena and I’m so sorry you missed your gala!  Healing vibes your FILs way @banana468

Only read if you like FWPs: Registered the kids for our school district’s summer arts camp early this morning. Overall happy with how it went, except for one annoyance. I’d had an awkward but necessary convo with a mom I really like who has a son I really don’t, she always goes on about what a great influence my son is on hers (meanwhile I don’t like his influence on DS, but we’re part of the same friend group and again I really like her, so in group settings I let it go).  Last summer she claimed her son wouldn’t do arts camp if DS didn’t, he wouldn’t walk in the door if they weren’t in every single class together (think 1st period art, 2nd period wood shop, 3rd period band instrument instruction, etc).  It was great for them but it didn’t work on our end, being together all four periods. So I let her know a few weeks ago that I’d be up for the boys to have one class together and the rest apart, she agreed. All for her to text this morning complaining about dashboard issues, what was I getting on my end, was I having luck, what did DS go for second period, how about third. All for me to get distracted and in bits and pieces over the course of a half hr text exchange, accidentally give her DS’s whole schedule. Lo and behold, her dashboard began working, and whoops, her son and DS are together for 3 periods and he’s waitlisted for the 4th class. Ugh 😣 totally my own fault but I’m so annoyed. I’m awkward and don’t like having Convos like the one we had a few weeks ago. Now I had it and all for nothing. Next year’s will be tougher- “I’m not discussing summer arts camp with you”.
  • BK absolutely loved the Broadway Frozen!
I've never seen her so .... enthralled is literally the best and only way to describe it. She wouldn't sit down to watch - she had to lean on the bars.

All the kids were up and watching "let it go" and the dress change was truly amazing.
The stage work was so crazy to watch.
Olaf was a puppet, but the puppetier was so good, he blended right in.
Sven was a person in a costume but i truly had zero idea how .... my inlaws sent me a video later on that.

    {we've discovered recently she's a chewer - she was excited, and overwhelmed}

Anyways she was so good and it was so fun, and she loved it so much :) We've decided we gotta bring her downtown again. Big buildings, etc.

Disney on ice is in like 2 weeks (march 9th) and BK still has no idea that's happening. Let alone Anna and Elsa meet and greet ;)

I've already started packing up my long sleeve shirts. It's gonna be so nice out! It's above freezing today, and in just a tshirt, sweater and jacket i was too hot. Definitely swapping jackets. No more winter coat!

That’s so nice @MissKittyDanger.  Took oldest DD to see Frozen on Broadway for her fourth birthday back in May 2018, it was phenomenal.  Wanted to take the twins when they were a bit older but Frozen left Broadway after the pandemic and now travels, unfortunately when you live too close to Broadway the national tours don’t come very close to us.  We went and saw Frozen Jr with my sister and nieces at a community theater last weekend, but it was mediocre (my students would say it was mid lol), unfortunately.  Yay for Disney on Ice and the meet and greet!

@ei34 it's still a haul for you but every now and then The Bushnell in Hartford has fantastic theater performances.  It's how DH and I were able to see Hamilton a few years ago because it is still on Broadway and I wasn't going to start selling my children to see it.   Wicked and Beetlejuice will be in mid to late spring and Funny Girl in June.  I'm likely not going to see any of them but I've been impressed by the performers of the national tours.

  • @ei34, I know she is your friend, but even friends don't always do the right thing.  That was messed up!  Especially after you talked to her about them only having one class together.  If it's not too late or too difficult, you should see if you can switch DS's classes to different times.

@MissKittyDanger, I'm glad BK liked Frozen so much!  It must have been such a great feeling for you all to see her so happy and excited.

  • Ugh I agree with you @short+sassy to switch times if that's possibly an option (i know kid activity/camp signups are a nightmare, so maybe not) but that was a total dick move @ei34 and I'm super angry on your behalf! I
  • Thanks. No their classes are totally set in stone, they got great schedules bc I was up at 4am to ensure it.  Some of the classes my kids have already have 20-kid waitlists. Mom friend admitted to writing an email to the director begging for an exception for one tight class and got lucky on the other two. But I’m not changing DS’s, it is what it is this year and I’m really just not discussing it with her next year.

Could you call her out on her BS as well?  Or are you going to wait for next year with an answer like, "Oh I haven't looked into this but I'll probably just schedule it that day," and then be completely unavailable until after the schedule is built?   I would be so frustrated that someone manipulated me like that.
  • Way to go!! How are you feeling?

Stuck in the box- Better than I would have thought. This is one and done for me, but I feel like I can check it off my bucket list and focus on other things now. I don't know how people train for these things year after year. It's such a time suck!

Dang!  Not being a parent, I had no idea how competitive it was to get into summer classes.

Especially having more than one child to consider, it makes a lot of sense you'd want their schedules similar.

It’s intense if your kid wants a specific class.  Thankfully both DDs wanted classes that had plenty of seats, it’s DS with his wood shop and craft it lab with 10-15 seats open that was tricky.  All three have the same schedule, 8:30-12:30.

@banana468 I’m done this year. Totally not discussing with her next year, lesson learned
  • @ei34 if it comes back, do it! They're touring again so hopefully :)

@short+sassy  i absolutely had what i call "parent tears" - the emotional tears of being a parent but you're not sad. It's emotions of seeing your kid just so enjoying it.
