Destination Wedding Bon Voyage Party

Hello all,

My fiancée and I would like to host a bon voyage party the weekend before the DW. We are inviting everyone to both events, however since it is a DW we realize that not everyone will be able to attend. I was wondering what everyone's thoughts were if we rented a large cabin (sleeps 80, with plenty of room for dancing, dining, and drinking) for the weekend. The only issue I foresee is that all of the places large enough are about 1.5hrs from where most of our guests live. We were however thinking of doing a first ask/first stay with us. Wedding party of course getting first dibs on bed for the night. Is this too over the top or trashy? The one we were looking at is on a private island, so we wouldn't be bothering any neighbors. My main concern is the distance. I would however like to point out that everyone would be invited to both the Bon Voyage and the DW, not just one or the other.

    I wouldn't have a Bon Voyage event before a DW. That is asking a huge time and financial commitment of your guests and wedding party. The guests would probably feel that they should come and the wedding party would probably think they have to come. Just invite your guests to the DW and let them decide if they will attend or not.

    Agreed.  Something like what you're proposing seems more like a bachelor/bachelorette. 

    Also, as someone who tied TK long ago, I remember that the time before the wedding was super stressful.  I don't know that i'd want to add an event.

    So, you're thinking of throwing a bon voyage party before your destination wedding? Sounds fun!

    But here's the thing, having two big events back-to-back might be a bit much for your guests, especially if they have to travel. Some might feel pressured to attend both, you know? Plus, the time leading up to a wedding can be crazy stressful already. Maybe consider just inviting everyone to the destination wedding itself and letting them decide if they can make it.

    Oh, and some might see this kind of event as more suited for a bachelor or bachelorette party vibe. Just some food for thought!
