Wedding Woes

Tuesday

How's everyone?  Hoping for a relatively calm week this week, which really shouldn't be hard compared to last week.  Happy St. Joseph's Day!

Re: Tuesday

  • @ei34, hopefully we all have a calm week!  There is an Irish-Italian parade in a suburb on Sunday.  In addition to beads, they toss people food.  Like cabbages, potatoes, and carrots.  Snacks.  Fruit.  Sometimes boxed spaghetti noodles and tomato paste, but those are more rare to catch.  There are walking groups that give out fake carnations and roses.  I might go if the weather is nice.  I like it better than Mardi Gras parades.

My phone with work authentication woes are finally over.  The IT guy over the phone had told me he'd sent it to local IT, when he wasn't able to help me.  But after 5 hours and no one had contacted me, I clicked the link on the ticket to see if I could find out more.  He'd sent it to the client's corporate headquarters which are many states away from here.  Argh!  So I forwarded the e-mail with my ticket info to the real local IT folks, who helped me and fixed it in 10 minutes.  He didn't even have to see me in person to do it.

I've had a lot urgent stuff come up at work yesterday and am still catching up today.  But it's all good.  I have a handle on it.

I need to go grocery shopping and pick up some prescriptions after work.  I WFH tomorrow and am looking forward to that.  It will be extra nice if I can get all the urgent stuff done today and don't have to stress tomorrow.

I’d put off the grocery shopping until after I got back from that parade. Some of those items mentioned are MONEY! Lol

i found out Miranda Lambert is playing at the IL state fair and even if my friends aren’t country fans maybe I can get a larger meetup group going and there’s gotta be one or two people from the extended group who would like her! I started looking at air b&b’s and i think we could wing a fun weekend.  Or heck, I’ve gone to concerts alone too.

Happy 1st day of SPRING!  It's cold this morning, but supposed to get into the 50's later.

The weather swings are making my sinuses nuts.  I'm so tired of having a vaguely sore throat for most of the day.  Ugh.

DefConn's bday is next week, so we're trying to figure out something to do with him.   He's never been in school on his bday since it always falls during spring break.  I'm hoping his BFF is home (he usually is) so he can tag along with us.

Nothing much else to report.  Work is SSDD.
  • I have a slight suspicion that the one we hired for reception isn't going to work out.
Idk if it'll be our end, or their end - but idk.

After this week, it's not my problem anyways.
I'm prepping stuff because I start part time in my new position - I'm already getting appointments booked :) I'm really excited lol

No, they hand them to people or gently toss them.  Same thing with the other heavier food items.

When I first moved to the NOLA area, sometimes there would be AHs on the floats that would throw them hard.  Though the vast majority of parade riders weren't like that.  Same with some of the heavier throws on the Mardi Gras floats.

But New Orleans and the surrounding towns put a stop to that about 20 years ago.  It's strictly prohibited now.  The police will stop a float and yank someone off it, if they are throwing things too hard at people.

Another float rule is no beads with Confederate flags on them.  That went into effect about 10ish years ago.

On a more fun note, for the Irish-Italian parade, some of the beads they throw are Italian or Irish flag beads.

  • Last night a local restaurant partnered with Chiquito's school PTA and profits went to them as a fundraiser.  Benefitting the school, local restaurant and I'm not cooking after being on my feet SO MUCH over the weekend?  Sign me up!

Conferences with the kids went well with really no surprises.  I think DH and I diverge with me not feeling convinced that Chiquita may benefit from medication to manage the ADHD.  She's getting great grades but at times she's a mad scientist and needs to figure out under which pile of something is the thing she needs while she drifts back from TikTok Paradise.      Her course list for next year in HS is nearly done and she's just waiting to hear about an audition she did for an honors choir.

We were BEAT last night and crashed.  Once the kids were put to bed we climbed into ours and watched Netflix. Well....DH watched Netflix and I drifted in and out of consciousness.

I didn't realize it was the first day of Spring.  I agree that it sure didn't feel like it this morning.

We've had perfect weather for the last few weeks, even putting the a/c on sometimes.  I thought the heater was done for the next 7-8 months.  But then it dropped to 44 last night!  What the heck?  I wore my scarf and fleece lined leggings to work, plus my warmest jacket.  I thought gloves would be overkill, but was sorry I didn't bring them, lol.

LMK if you end up liking any of the shows at Ravinia this year! I'd love another concert buddy :)
  • Worked out this morning then came home to clean the second floor. Now I'm heading to a stretch appointment which I really need. Afterwards I need to run some errands. H went to the store this morning and I forgot to add a few things so I will be getting those. Also a friend picked up some Easter candies for me from a local candy shop in Muncie so I need to get those from her.

I thought of you when I saw that! My friends want to do the Abba coverband but it’s 4th of July long weekend and I’m heading South.  I would do beach boys with uncle Jesse lol! But yeah. I don’t know any others but Nora Jones.  Which would just be a very expensive nap for me.
Also check out Cantigny summer concerts. They do a good job too.  I don’t see a line up yet.

I found a job i'm super interested in and am working to get an application in by the end of this week. It would be fully remote with monthly meetings at their headquarters a couple hours away - i think i could handle that. I'm excited to feel comfortable looking again now that G will be done with treatment soon.

Also this week and last have been a clusterF at work and i've been on a project that was not supposed to be mine this Q and am extremely frustrated with a coworker about it.
    Wow!  Good luck!

Have you been "officially" looking?  Or just generally keep an eye out for job postings?

Mostly casually looking. I'm bored and was never overly interested in working on the team i'm on now, it was just the right choice at the time given our family situation and my former team restructuring. So i've been skimming linkedIn in my free time the last couple weeks and flagging some things!

Well, I got called a fake feminist and "how white of you" today, so the election season is starting.  Me not following some of my friends down a rabbit trail of idealism, but remaining pragmatic with my vote, always seems to piss people off starting about now.  Old timers will remember when another friend called me a baby killer and worse than a terrorist who would drive a van into protestors because I refused to vote for Bernie Sanders.  This time it was because I asked a friend not to send me videos of children dying without a warning, b/c I was suicidal last week and still somewhat fragile this week.  How gauche of me.  I'm not even mad; I'm sad and tired and still firm with my decision to stop advocacy work.  The left always eats it's own tail.

Grinding away at work.  I have #1 of only 3!!! weekly allergy shots left today.  My case was officially continued, so now I'm playing catch up with all of the other stuff.  I also got up at my goal time this morning and I got on the rowing machine.  I only did 10 minutes.  I could feel my muscles getting tired and sore, and I just thought, "You know what?  I've already pushed myself this morning, let's take this easy and since I feel like stopping, just stop."  So I did.  I am VERY aware that I moved my body for the first time in a long time still, so I think I made a good decision.
We can’t ever seem to get out of our own way.

Hoping you can be gentle with yourself. You’ve had a lot happen in the last few weeks.
  • @charlotte989875 Thank you.  I'm doing a lot better than I was last week and I'm just being careful of pushing and resting right now.  I have a lot of support (including you lovely folx) and I'm always very thankful for that.
  • @VarunaTT, just think in a few short months, it’s floating season.  Your happy place 😊

  • @CharmedPam Yes and I'm finally at maintanence with these allergy shots, so should be good to go!!  I was just listening to my water play list, it soothes my nerves too.

I'll be okay.  I just think a lot of past work trauma came roaring out of the woodwork with how stressed I got that I wasn't prepared for.  I very much appreciate the concern and things should be settling down now.
