Good morning!!
Older sis's SIL had her second baby last night. He's so cute and looks just like my nephew's mini-me's when they were newborns.
DefConn cracks me up. He uses his alexa in his room for his alarm and apparently, it went through some sort of update and made a noise in the middle of the night. It woke him up and he thought it was his alarm, so he got up and started getting ready for the day. I heard him in the bathroom and after a few minutes thought something was wrong so I checked on him(DefConn rarely wakes up and uses the bathroom in the night). He opens the door, fully dressed, and I'm like, "What are you doing?! It's 12:30am!" Thankfully, we all went right back to sleep and I find it utterly hilarious today.
We're going to look at another house with BIL tonight. It's really close to us and has the land they're looking for, so fingers crossed.
SSDD for the most part otherwise. Two more interviews today and then I think we'll be able to make a decision.
Prudie coming up.
Re: Giddy-up! It's Thursday!
I had QUITE the eventful day yesterday. Including an eye emergency. Let me back up to Tuesday. I got home from work and found out the roofing guys screwed up and didn't put a new roof on the part of our house that is an addition. They are coming back sometime this week. But the new roof looks amazing! When the roofers came that morning, I realized my H and I had never talked about the shingles/colors. I don't always trust his judgement on those kinds of things, so it was definitely an "OH SHIT" moment for me because by then it was too late. But I love what he picked!
Tuesday night, I saw an opportunity...from my local sub-Reddit of all places...to participate in a medical research study. $45/person, so I got both myself and my H signed up. I sent an e-mail on Wednesday morning that I would be taking off work 90 minutes early because I needed to get bloodwork. Which is kinda true. The study did bloodwork and I will get the results, lol.
In addition to the money, I'm actually excited to get the results. Turns out that LDL cholesterol is made up of different parts. One of the parts called LPA is especially bad because it is "sticky". It's very hereditary and there aren't any current treatments, because the typical stuff you do for high cholesterol (statins, diet, exercise) doesn't really work on it. But they are in Phase 3 trials for a treatment. LPA isn't usually tested for because insurance rarely covers it. But the research screening I did does test it and they will share those results with me.
Oh, but wait. I woke up Wednesday morning with my right eye really bothering me. I figured it would go away with some time. After a couple hours, I tried rewetting drops. Those didn't do anything. By the time it was 11am, I couldn't take it anymore. I was at a constant level of mild pain and max. irritation/uncomfortable. I called the eye doctor's office in my local Costco in the desperate hope they could fit me in that day. But before 3:30, because that was when I needed to leave for my medical study. Triumph! They could see me at 2:30. So then I send ANOTHER e-mail to my boss that I'm actually leaving at 2:00, due to a totally unrelated eye emergency.
Thankfully my eye emergency was an easy, though totally stupid, thing. An eyelash had gotten stuck on my cornea! The eye doctor even had to use these little tweezers to pull it off. But while I was there, I was also able to squeeze in my usual eye appointment stuff. A new prescription for my glasses and a retina exam/imaging.
Long-term diabetics are at high risk for retina damage, but even after 30 years mine are still perfect (phew)!
Pretty SSDD. Rainy, dreary and cool. Tomorrow is the last day before spring break in this area, so ready for it!
I'm glad your eye was okay! @short+sassy
Work today. I did a pretty decent cross country hike/run last night. I'm sure I'm going to be super sore tomorrow as I've now done like three days straight of leg based activities. Otherwise not too much else is going on. I am tired but there's still two more days of work until the weekend. Unfortunately this weekend is my cousin's daughter's baptism, and it's about 2 hours from home, so Saturday morning we will be up bright and early to get ready and make the drive down. It will be nice to see everyone and gorgeous down at the beach, but I'm not jazzed about waking up extra early on a Saturday. Luckily we don't have any plans on Sunday or Monday. Next week we were supposed to go to Vegas, but we canceled that. I'm debating on keeping Friday off, or if I should just work the whole week.
But when I woke up this morning, no eye irritation at all and I'm back to 100%!
The one thing eyes and teeth have in common is you normally don't even think about them. But when something is wrong, oof! It's the worst because it's constant, unrelenting pain and discomfort. Even if the pain level itself isn't too bad. And I will desperately call every optometrist or dentist in town until someone can see me, lol.
