Hump Day

How’s everyone doing?

Re: Hump Day

  • Glad Disney was fun! I'm excited about going later this year and also nervous bc it will be our first big family trip!

SSDD here. Work is work. Getting antsy to hear about the job interview results but it hasn't even been a week so I know it's just me being impatient.

Trying to figure out days for N's birthday party (just family) and a bigger celebration party for G. Want to have the far enough apart that they feel like separate events, but also have limited days that work for VIPs.
  • Work today. I thought there was a light at the end of the tunnel and then my MA called out. Boo. Oh well.

Otherwise SSDD. I am a little sleepy but no changes there. I'm feeling meh about life in general but in a very passive way if that makes sense.

  • @ei34, I'm glad you all had a great vacation!

I developed sciatica from a car accident years ago.  I'm sure it can vary, but I had constant pain for 5 weeks.  It wasn't usually a bad pain.  But there wasn't even one second of relief from it, until it finally went away.  It mainly hurt where my sciatic nerve was, but sometimes it radiated out.  It's at least never returned.

The doctor who diagnosed said, "The good news is, it will go away just as suddenly as it started in 4-6 weeks.  The bad news is, there isn't much that will help you in the meantime."  He suggested I take OTC pain meds and also wrote me a prescription for muscle relaxants.  He said the muscle relaxants are hit or miss.  They help some people and don't help others at all.  Of course, I was in the latter category.  OTC pain meds didn't help at all either.  I hope you fare better than me and it goes away quickly!

Not much going on, other than it has been a BUSY day at work!  I suddenly had a few new and urgent things fall into my lap since yesterday.  Ugh, WHY does it always come at once, lol?

One task did make me laugh a bit.  Part of my job is putting together a tentative warehouse order, that the main engineer I support will review.  He makes his mark-ups (if applicable) and then I place the order.  I was told it was "urgent" when I prepared it a month ago.  He's been sitting on it that long.  He finally returned it to me last night and told me it was a high priority.  Most of my work is for him anyway, so it's fine to tell me what he wants me to do first.  It's just puzzling that he sat on it for so long if it is supposedly urgent.

  • Glad Disney was fun @ei34.  You totally reminded me that I need to purchase a car cushion for my back.  When I drove to Indiana last week, even that 2 hour drive was rough on my tailbone! And one major point leaning towards the Rogue was the ergonomic seats MADE for distance driving.
@Casadena do N and G have close bdays? (Well, obviously from what you wrote lol)

Birthdays are 6 months apart, but we want to have an end-of-treatment party for G this summer while my sister is home (so 3 weekends to choose from) but N's birthday is close to those dates! So trying to figure out what works best when for everyone :)
  • Good afternoon.

I slept like garbage last night.  I was just super restless.  I was getting hot under my quilt, so I even busted out my bamboo summer blanket.  DH is OOT, so I'm sure that didn't help.  He'll be back tonight.

I've had to make 6 phone calls over the last week and a half to get a double-charge issue resolved.  I'm so irritated with the merchant and my bank.  Thankfully, it wasn't a large amount of money, but still annoying and not great customer service.  Ugh.

My mom died 4 years ago today.   I never know how I'm gonna feel on days like this.  So far OK, but also completely unmotivated to work.  I cried a little earlier and am now zoning out watching this really cute, seemingly pregnant squirrel, tale a nap in the tree right outside my office window.   It looks so frigging cozy, LOL.

Thankfully, I have a 1.5 hour townhall to attend at 2:30.  I can just listen with my camera off.
  • Hugs @mrsconn23, thinking of you!
  • Thinking of you today @mrsconn23.

It's a busy week with 3 baseball games, a chorus concert, and soccer practice between Monday and Friday.  I had book club last night and whoa boy talk about an emotional discussion.  The Women was one of the better reads in a LONG time and if you don't want to read a book that makes you emotional avoid it.  But if you want to dig in on a historical novel that dives into the Vietnam War era it's worth your time.

  • @Casadena, oh no!  That sucks!  I'm sure you did a good job explaining it.  But it's hard for people to understand if they aren't already somewhat familiar with it and the processes.

I have the perfect, eye-rolling example.  I got a new Big Boss about two years ago.  He's asked me a few times to describe my job to him.

It was really demoralizing about a year ago.  He introduced me to a new person starting in the Procurement department and told her that I do Doc Control.  Nothing wrong with DC, but I have nothing to do with that department.  So then I had to be a little awkward and correct him by saying, "I do more steel management work and sometimes Procurement."

I still sometimes wonder if he is truly that clueless about what I do.  Or just misspoke in the moment and didn't say anything, because I already did.

That does sting @casadena. I'm sorry.

The older I get the more I feel like 99% of administration has zero clue what most of their employees do. The higher up the ladder, the less they know and the more they squabble over fair compensation. Don't mind me, I'm just jaded. lol.

Omg, spot on. I was in a very shit mood today until the end of the town hall. There were 40 min left and they moved in to q+a, thinking it would be done and dusted 30 min early. Ohhh boy were they wrong…

The thing went over because they got hammered with questions. I’ve never seen execs panic like that before. Most of the questions were excellent and really spoke to a lot of issues my team has been raising for awhile now and some stuff I’ve never heard about. Also, how the way some of our systems work, they’re not maximizing their capabilities. There was some stuff people said that had me wanting to hide under my desk and also taking notes on who I’d never hire. But it was amazing. I was messaging my boss the whole time and called her immediately after because she was in the morning session (with no fireworks).

But anyway, the reactions told me everything about what, and how little, they truly know about the day to day minutiae. I’m curious whether it will inspire any change.

    It’s giving Lucile Bluth vibes.

I feel like it never really does inspire change, but, once again, jaded. lol. I will say there is nothing more entertaining than watching a shit show Town Hall. Especially when the rest of the meeting has been (pardon my French) a giant circle jerk with the Executives patting themselves on the back for how fantastic they are. It's truly the best representation of the Michael Jackson eating popcorn gif
