Wedding Woes

Tuesday

M is home because he threw up at school yesterday even though he is totally fine. Didn’t get sick at all again yesterday, overnight, or today. So H is hanging with him while my mom is with Baby J and I’m working. I’m glad M is fine and totally get the rules of 24 hours puke free but ugh. Hope everyone’s day is less chaotic than mine!

Re: Tuesday

  • Oh @charlotte989875 that sucks! Kids puke all the time for no reason at all - it's baffling.

I applied for a couple jobs yesterday, we'll see what happens. I think my time at this company is just coming to an end unless i'm good with staying put for a long time. Which i don't know if I am. I at least want to explore. Luckily, i think i have great references here if it gets to that point and we don't have to worry so much about interruptions to insurance now that G is done with treatment.

Got in early today for a training that ended up being postponed at the last minute so now my morning feels super long. Might run some errands at lunch jsut to get out of the office.
  • Chiquito is home with DH while I'm at the hospital with Chiquita for her infusion.  Random 100 degree temp in summer hit last night while he nearly danced to me with the thermometer.
  • Sorry for all of the random sick kiddos! I hope everyone feels better soon! I have a little cold too. I thought it was over because I was feeling fine, but I think I overdid it yesterday and by the end of the night I was feeling it again.

Memorial service this weekend went okay. It reinforced why I don't see that side of the family. Dad's eulogy was originally somethin' else, but he ended up going off script which was good.

We leave for our trip on Thursday. There's so much to do around the house. I am so not motivated to be at work today. I really wish I could just be sleeping and working on settling things instead.

  • @Casadena, good luck with the job search.

I found out today one of my fave coworkers is leaving!  This Friday is his last day.  He has a new job with a better management role/title.  I also assume it pays more money.  I don't have many details.  But we go for walk breaks sometimes.  I'm going to see if he's available to go on one today, so we can chit-chat more about it.

I had a productive day at work yesterday and today has been another one, so far.  I'm on a role!  Lol.

My H and I are looking forward to our dog Izzy's first snow experience after we move.  We were guessing what her reaction will be last night.  We think it will be confusion and giving us a forlorn look as if to say, "Why are we out here?  Take me back inside."  We're going to get her a little dog coat and some sweaters.  She's only 22 lbs and I was laughing that she might have to pick her little legs up and out of the snow to walk.

When we went on a walk recently, she got into some high grass and all you could see was her torso moving through it.  It was pretty funny.

Then it occurred to me it may not snow enough in southern OH for the snow to be that deep, so I looked it up.  I found a handy website that listed the highest snowfall in Cincinnati in a single day, going back about 40 years.  With the exception of a few years, it looks like 5.5" is the max in a single day.  But it's usually 2-3".  It also only snows 3-4 days/year.

All of that is better than I was thinking.  We can handle that!  So can Izzy on her walks.

I think I missed your heatwave! Wooooo! Yay.  Alaska had perfect temps.  @levioosa, you’re going to love it!
before i left my dentist told me I needed a root canal, which was the cause of pain.  I had to go on vaca without getting that done. While it has subsided since then, the first few days were so painful for me. It was hard to eat :( and then on the Royal Caribbean, the tasteless bland food made it hard to eat. And i’m not princessing out. Many people in our group, on the ship and in the reviews are saying RC’s food quality is going down. Anyway, I have the root canal set for today though on my “lunch”. Root canal and new cap now. Ugh. Anything else ya wanna throw at me? The lack of eating should have helped me to my goal weight, but alas we had the unlimited drink package so I just drank my calories. Don’t worry, I didn’t wither away.

Yes @“short+sassy", we’ve had mild winters lately so I think small dogs have been ok in the small. We had a shih-tzu and even that little body found a way to bounce through the snow.
    Glad M is fine @charlotte989875
good luck on those applications @Casadena

  • Boo about the Root Canal @CharmedPam. H had to get one done last month before we left because his crown fell out and they were like, "well guess what!" Bummer about the food. I'm hoping Princess is okay. It's supposed to be one of the "better" cruise lines for food, but so is Royal Caribbean so fingers crossed. I feel like quality is just declining everywhere. The last Carnival Cruise we went on the food was basically inedible. I think I maybe ate one half way decent meal at the formal dinner. Otherwise the only time I had decent food was at port. And *suspicious eyes* what is "perfect temperature?" Because I'm side eyeing the anticipated temps of 50-60 degrees thinking I might freeze to death (yes yes, I'm a wuss). If it was in the 70s then I'll be cool, but that's beautiful weather otherwise.

Okay here’s the thing. It was between 50-60 there but the 50-60 hits way different over there. It’s really not that cold.  Windy! First port I wore a puffy jacket but that may have been too dramatic lol.  I got away with just sweaters the other two ports.
Our only good meal on RC was the last one for some reason.  We were like “where ya been hiding, chef?” When we ate it! And we thought we were too late for dinner too because of the excursion we were on, but we made last seating.  It was so funny because we did a “oh Canada highlights” tour in Victoria and one of the stops was Tim Hortons.  But only for a pre ordered drink and bag of donut holes they provided.  They told us we couldn’t order anything.  I wanted to crawl to the counter all deprived and hungry like and say “food!!!!! Food with flavor!! Help us out.  We’re on Royal Caribbean” lol.
There was also trivia on the tour and the guy was like “first of all, any Canadians?”
and I lowered my head and was like “shut up! Shut up! This is my time to shine!”.  He didn’t pick me for any questions though.  He probably didn’t like me after I tried to order a half coffee/half hot chocolate when the directions were clearly coffee, hot chocolate, tea or water.
I would do princess! Let me know how it is.  So far I like celebrity, NCL and Holland America overall.

Dogs (in my experience) love snow @short+sassy, I hope that Izzy adjusts, I know it'll be something different for her.  Good luck on the search @casadena and healing vibes to Chiquita and M...ugh the vomiting once randomly and then being totally fine, while having to miss another day of school, always drives me nuts @charlotte989875.  I fully understand why there are 24 hour rules and follow them.  But frustrating.

We had a brief break from the heat yesterday with very breezy low 70s but are back up again today.  It's the last full day of work (and my kids' last full day of school), I'm going to dash to Trader Joe's right after work to stock up on aaalll the snacks for later this week when they're not yet in camp and "starving" every 5 minutes.  I won't even have to hear about it they can just help themselves.

We took Izzy to a MS beach that allows dogs.  She was very unsure and nervous about swimming in the water, at first.  But was absolutely loving it, once she got used to it.

I could see snow being the same thing.  Especially when it's combined with other things she loves.  Like walks and chasing a ball.

Now I'm excited about snow.  3-4x/year sounds more like fun than an onerous weekly or daily difficulty to endure.  Though now I feel like I just jinxed myself to my first real life (instead of vacation life) snow is on a Monday morning when I need to go to a hypothetical office at my hypothetical job.

Random fact about cats and water.  Cats are naturally excellent swimmers, just like their dog friends.  It's just most cats don't like water and will avoid it if at all possible.

  • None of our little dogs have liked snow even though I have seen pictorial evidence of doxies running and playing in it. Ours have always looked at it with great distain.

Healing vibes to the sick kiddos. It always amazes me how kids can throw up or run a fever then feel perfectly fine. I remember when my kids were little there was a run of a few days where they ran a fever every evening. They wouldn't have one during the day or the next morning. But the rule for school was/is fever free for 24 hours. I get it, so I followed the rule. However, they didn't really seem sick - just had a fever in the evening!
