How was everyone's weekend?

Re: Monday

  • Most of the day Saturday was kid activities - there was one weekend where sessions overlapped. G did awesome at gymnastic (his first activity where parents have to drop off!) of course, we all were just outside the door, but it was fun. Then he had swimming and passed his level and can sign up for the harder one next. He has come such a long way! Played outside the rest of afternoon in their new swimming pool/sprinkler. Yesterday did early church with my parents and then straight to the zoo to enjoy the last day of our annual passes and enjoy the nice (low 70s!) weather. They're off all week so my parents are babysitting a few days and then we're trading work/kid time. My sister and her bf land tonight and are here for a few weeks! They'll split time with us and with my parents. Haven't seen bf in almost 2 years, so that will be fun.

Anyone have big plans for the week?

That all sounds so nice @Casadena!

We’re having a heat break too, 70s and breezy (and biggest one- low humidity) recently and thankful for it. Got some swimming in this weekend, plus chores, mass, a playdate.

The kids’ summer arts camps started today and my extended school year (what my district calls summer school) also began today- they go from 8:30-12:30 and most days I’ll be in 9-12 so it lines up nicely. It was just announced that our principal isn’t returning (the AP also retired this year) and emails from the superintendent followed with which directors are talking over where in interim roles…never a dull moment.

I read my first romance novel (well, it was more fiction, with a couple romance scenes here and there) and I liked it. So if anyone has any romance recs but with a good plot (modern day, not taking place in the olden days if possible), or fiction-that-has-romance in it, I’m open to them ☺️
  • Awesome for G @Casadena!
@ei34, which one did you read? I started reading Colleen Hoover books (started with Verity) and really enjoy them.  They’re a fast easy read. And I haven’t picked up a book in years.  Years.  Next up is “it ends with us”.

Loving the mild weather here too. I was so sleepy this weekend it’s pretty much all I did. Yesterday I had a headache all day and also had plans to see Nate Bargatze that night.  Miracle of miracles, I got rid of it 1 hour before I had to leave.  He was great.  His comedian guests were great. I’m so glad my head cleared and I could go.  It was at the stupid allstate arena and it’s SO unorganized there when you leave that it took us 1 hour to get out of the parking lot.  I can’t believe I’m saying this, but the United Center in the city is easier to get out of! But they have numerous parking lots around the arena vs. just one large one at Allstate.  It really makes me think twice about going to events.  Especially on Sunday nights.

  • Sadly, no heat break for us. It was hot and humid all weekend and it's probably going to stay that way until September. Blerg. It was a fun weekend anyway. Saturday I went for a run in the park and there were A LOT of good looking shirtless men running. Then yesterday we went kayaking on the river with a group of friends. I got a little burnt, but it was really fun to be out there and get to see people that I don't see often.

Nothing much special this week. We're off Thurs and Fri, so we'll probably go to the pool and stuff, but I'm not big on the whole crowded fireworks thing.
  • We got the heat break too!  Saturday it was cooler but muggy and yesterday the storms were churning.  The concert we attended was delayed by an hour and a half and the venue is a 'music bowl' so we would have been totally exposed.  It was my first time there and a great experience.  The parking was decently close and less than a 10 minute walk from lot to seat (I'm used to going to summer concerts in Hartford that are a solid 20+ minute brisk walk from car to venue) and no rain was had!  We ran into friends of DH from his HS (the band is from his hometown) so it was a great night all around.

  • Also to our friends up North;

lucky you for a 3 day weekend! I still have to work Friday (although I doubt it’ll be busy)

  • @ei34 I just finished "The Island" by Elin Hilderbrand. Some romance, but not "spicy". I like most of her books that I've read.

"Before I let go" by Kennedy Ryan was fantastic too. Little spicier than the other but nothing outrageous.

Hellooo!!  Happy Canada Day to those who celebrate!

Another short week here!  Woohoo!  Also, my boss is off this week and I'll be surprised if my director works more than today.

Tyler Childers was AMAZING.  The opening acts were great and the whole show was just a clinic in putting on a concert that keeps people on their feet.  He played almost all the songs I wanted to hear.  Would go back again and again to see him life for sure.

Friday, we went boating.  It was only OK because some shit went down with FIL and if he weren't my FIL, we wouldn't be speaking again.  DH hasn't spoken to his dad since Friday.  I'm not sure when he'll try to reach out to him.  Despite the drama, we had some fun on the water.

Saturday, mostly just did some running around.  We got some nasty storms late in the day, but it cleared out and ended up being a beautiful evening.  SIL's (BFF) grandma is in the hospital after a fall at her facility.  She's going to have to go to rehab and then I'm not sure after that.  But anyway, she came over and stayed Saturday night because she came into town to see her grandma and figure out next steps (she's POA).

Sunday, stunning weather.  DH and BIL built a privacy wall in our backyard.  We went for pedicures.  And DH smoked the most amazing ribs for dinner.  It was a lovely, chill day.  We turned off our air last night and it's been so nice to have the breeze running through the house.

DH and I were laying out on our deck at lunch today (we'll spend 20-30 min over lunch out there if it's a nice day).  A bird SHIT on DH's leg.  LMAO!

We don't have any big 4th plans, but we're having a party on Saturday.  We'll be spending a lot of time gearing up for that.

    Thanks @casadena I’ll check out!
@CharmedPam  it was the Bromance Book Club by Lyssa Kay Adams. Light but well written enough to keep me engaged.  I’ve read some Colleen Hoover. I didn’t like “It Ends with Us”..without giving away plot it hit too close to home for me personally, but it’s very popular.
  • We had a good visit with DS1 and DIL. DH's car's AC went on the frizt on the way over though. It was miserable the last hour. The weather was yuck on Saturday so we went to the Cleveland Art Museum. It was nice but I'm not a big art museum person. Afterwards we went to the West End market to get stuff for dinner. That place is amazing with all the meat, fish, cheese and bakery vendors. We got home late afternoon after having brunch with them. Their dog is so cute and fun but sooooo full of energy. I couldn't handle having him around all the time. I like a dog that naps some during the day. He's an aussie and is "on" all the time. Granted he is only a little over a year old so still pretty much a puppy. Our little guy was at the kennel while we were gone.  If they didn't have a neurotic cat we could take him with us. However, another dog in the house would probably cause the cat to murder all humans! So right now our pup is curled up in my lap happy to be home.

We don't have big plans for the 4th. I've invited a friend over for a small cookout but that's it. H hasn't decided if he is doing ribs or burgers. I'm doing the sides.

I also do not understand these heat breaks people are speaking of, lol.

FWIW, I remember when my aunt moved to this area she insisted she didn't need AC.  It wasn't until the late 90s that they installed central air.

Same for my mom!  Coastal town in Southern CA.  We had central heat, but never had a/c in my childhood home.  My parents would run a fan in each room instead.

But she said as she was getting older, the heat was harder for her to handle.  She installed a new HVAC system that included a/c, sometime in the late '90s/early '00s.

We did not have central AC and can confirm it’s awful.
