Monday after holiday

Dragging a bit this morning, but I like my outfit so that's helpful. How was everyone's weekend?

Re: Monday after holiday

  • Monday’s are hard.  Even if I still worked Friday, I felt the 4 day weekend.
Had a great time with my boys.  The older one broke down about his mother to me, which broke my damn heart and I could barely talk to him without my voice cracking.  He’s hurting the most, and I’m going to suggest my brother take him out, just the two of them and me and his gf can watch the other three.  I think he needs daddy and him time.  Apparently they went snorkeling the two of them on vacation, but you can’t talk & snorkel.
I got home at a decent time last night and was able to unpack, wash my clothes, cook and sort things out.  It’s a great feeling.  I also started ep 1 of hulu’s “under the bridge” which seems promising. But it’s set in B.C, and they casted american actors.  Either cast Canadian ones or throw in the Canadian accent to make it believable.
Also I found out yesterday that meetup’s dues went up $45/month or $299/year so one of the organizers is charging dues. Which i’m 100% behind.  But most organizers charge a one time fee of under $10/year or a $1 or $2 a month.  She’s charging $6/month.  She HAD 803 members.  It’s only down to 784 now, so I know those inactive members didn’t see that message.  I’m going to peace out.  $72/year for me and everything we do is free or potlucked or pay our own way.  Her math ain’t mathing on this one.

  • Sis and her BF were here Tue-Sat and we had a lot of fun. Went to a minor league baseball game Wed that was a blast and the kids made it through 5 innings without whining! ($1 hot dogs and a huge tub of popcorn probably helped). Did the zoo on Thursday - got there early bc I expected it to be packed but it was the most empty i've ever seen it. We got to do some of the interactive stuff that we don't usually wait in line for and it was so much fun. Kids played in the pool and we grilled and hung out in the backyard when we got home. We were also able to see like 5 fireworks shows from our patio and it was really nice to not have to go anywhere. Friday just hung out at home all day and Saturday G drove with me halfway to Iowa and back to drop off Sis/BF with my parents. Yesterday we got stuff done around the house and took an impromptu Ikea trip.

Overall a very busy and fun weekend! VERY excited for kids to be back in school this week though - they are bouncing of the dang walls.
  • Good weekend. Went out to dinner with friends last night. It was lots of fun. We don't get to see them nearly enough. The other guy is a former work colleague of H. It does H good to talk shop with someone every so often.

Today I had a dr. appointment, took to pup to vet for a vaccine and am getting ready to head to dentist for a quick check on a tooth. This afternoon my book club is having a pool party. I'm looking forward to floating and laughing. I'll miss the actual book club this month because I will be in Montana on my college girls' trip
  • I didn't do much this weekend except clean and cook.  I had let some things go when I was unemployed because depression.  Having a clean bathroom does make me feel a lot better.  I've been putting some effort into organizing things and spending some money to do it and it's paying off.  There is simply no storage in this apartment (loft and open floor plan), so it's taken time to figure out what I want and to find it.

Still trying to figure out schedule and socializing.  I feel like socializing will be more important than ever because of WFH.  I'm pretty sure I could stay in my space, by myself and Harley, for a long time and go completely feral.  Just chilling right now, my supervisor is waiting on her supervisor for the last thing I need to complete my training.  I'll be glad when this part is over, it's hard to remain focused.  Going to see the old movie Red Dawn with a friend tonight.  I haven't seen it in years and never on the big screen.
  • Was that the PeachTree road race @MyNameIsNot? If so that’s on my bucket list of races!
  • Weekend was good. Long. And I think I caught whatever cough M has had the last week or so. We did a lot of outside time and cousin time. So a ton of fun for M but I’m exhausted.
  • I'm fully exhausted.  I could have definitely used another day off.  The weekend was great, but we were busy AF.

Thursday was super low-key.  We made steaks for dinner and did a couple of fireworks at home, but nothing major.  It rained a good portion of the day and was really muggy.

Friday, we got up and did Costco first thing.  We came back and then SIL and I did the rest of the shopping that needed to get done for Saturday.  BIL/SIL/nephews showed up in the afternoon.  We had dinner and let the kid do a few fireworks.

Saturday, busy all.day.long.  Party was a huge success.  We had a manageable turnout.  Our last guest left around 1a.

Sunday, we slept in and cleaned up party mess.  A friend invited us to their pool, so we went swimming for a couple of hours.  After that, it was a low-key night.

I'm glad we had the party, but now I'm glad it's over.  LOL

Back to work this week.  So not feeling it after last week, but I'm trying to chug along.  I'm dreading a meeting I have this afternoon because I'm sure it's going to be a post-mortem regarding last week's reorg and I'm NOT interested in talking about it again.  Blerg.

    SSDD otherwise.

I love when our zoo is emptier than usual @Casadena!
Youre a wonderful aunt and sister @CharmedPam and yeah no on that pricing

I’m breathing a sigh of relief bc my parents had a tough week health-wise (dad- bad cold turned nastier due to long Covid, mom- shingles) and were out of state, my siblings and I felt so useless. They’re back home now (although on top of it all their car broke down on their way home and they had to rent a car for the final two hours) and finally both feeling better. I brought some meals by for them after dropping the kids off at camp, they both seemed okay.

Edit- posted before I was done
  • Weekend was decent!  Friday we took the boat out and stayed relatively local.   There's a place not far where we can anchor and go to a beach and the kids can swim/jump off the rocks so we did that for a while.  Then FIL joined us at the marina for dinner.  MIL would have been there too but she fell just before they were supposed to leave and it turns out she broke her arm in 3 places.

DH is going to stop by today and check on her because while the healing should be fine it makes her anxious.

THe rest of the weekend was fine - super gross humidity which hasn't gone away and we went out on Saturday but yesterday was chock full of housework.  It wasn't glamorous but it was progress which we needed.  Now we're back to the grind with DH at work and the kids are in their respective camp / home modes.
  • Was that the PeachTree road race @MyNameIsNot? If so that’s on my bucket list of races!
It is! This is our third year doing it - I think it's become a tradition.

I hope you'll do it one year. It's hot, but so much fun!
  • Well, the rest of our vacation is ruined because H and I both caught Covid on the cruise. We were supposed to do a bunch of really fun stuff with my aunt and uncle and now we just have to lay low. I’m pretty upset for multiple reasons. It’s also annoying that every time I get Covid I’m just destroyed. Can’t I ever get the Covid that’s just congestion for like two days? I’m also grumpy because this was one of the reasons I wanted to do Alaska first with aunt and uncle and then cruise down to Vancouver but my dad’s family ruined those plans when they changed the memorial dates.

Otherwise the cruise was fun. We did a lot in a short amount of time and we were lucky to have some of the best viewing of things of the whole season according to different people. We even got to see a group of six humpback whales all feeding together. Glacier Bay and College Fjord cleared up beautifully when we went to visit them and overall it was a nice cruise.

  • I had a good weekend overall, until yesterday.  I hung out with a friend neighbor on the 4th.  Then my H and I went out to brunch with her on Friday. which was really nice and the food was delicious.  The restaurant had $5 watermelon margs (not frozen) and they were strong!

I relaxed a lot and slept in, which was sorely needed.

    Now my rant (sigh).

One of our tenants was supposed to move out on July 6th.  Her choice to give a 30-Day notice and she also chose the date.  We didn't hear from her, so my H called her on Sunday.  Apparently she's not moving out yet and doesn't know when she can.  She's on Section 8 and her next place hasn't even had its first inspection yet, so it's probably going to be another month.

We are SO PISSED!!!  We have wasted hours of our time putting up rental ads and doing showings.  Only to find out at the last minute that she's not honoring the very notice she gave us or even telling us that.  I'm just glad we hadn't already signed a lease with someone else.  I'm pulling all the rental ads down tonight.  I can't advertise a place if I don't know when it will be ready.  I do not understand WTF is wrong with some people!

She is also 8 days late on her portion of the rent.  I initially wasn't worried about it because it would only have been a small pro-rated amount for 6 days that I could have taken out of the security deposit.  I'm sure she knew on the 1st that she was going to be here for all/most of the month, yet still didn't pay it.

I put together a Pay or Quit notice this morning.  As well as a separate letter that her 30-Day Notice to Vacate has been voided since she did not comply with the move-out date.  That she will need to give us another 30-Day notice once she knows her definite move-out date.

  • Bonkers @short+sassy.  I’m sure on the 1st or even before it she knew so she could pay it AND let you know instead of you having to call her.
@levioosa, I’m sorry that happened.  I’m on a FB message group for my ship and a lot of people posted they got it even after the trip was over.  Someone posted a positive test and many comments followed.  But it sounded like you had a grand old time before it!
Boo to your parents week @ei34.  Glad they’re on the mend at least

  • @levioosa, I'm glad you had a great time on your cruise, but so sorry to hear that both you and your H caught COVID.  Especially since that ruined your all's other vacation plans.
