Wedding Woes

Friyay!

I'm glad it's the end of the week.  It hasn't been bad or anything, I'm just looking forward to a break.  I keep thinking I should take a 3 day weekend or something, but since I'm not stressed out at work...it's weird to use PTO now?  I do have some fun things coming up in October and I do like taking the week between Christmas and NYE off, so we'll see.

My movie buddy is coming over tomorrow and we're re-watching Deadpool 1 and 2 to see the new one on Sunday.  I'll see Mom on Sunday as well.  I just dropped some $$ on Harleys regular Chewy order, but added quite a few puzzle toys for her.  She really seems to like eating her food that way and if I can keep her busy, she's less vocal at me.  I even put in her stairs last night to get to the bookshelf I cleared for her (I am highly aware that my cat is spoilt) and she was entertained for 5 minutes, then started meowing at me b/c she wants to be higher.  Well, we have limits here ma'am, so take what you get!

There's a really big nice liquor store here that also has lots of home decor, cookbooks, high end foods, etc.  They did a big sale on all that stuff.  I got 3 16" tall, 5" wide vases that I'm going to start decorating for holidays for myself, for $75 (originally $100 each).  I'm starting with Halloween.  I've been having fun picking things out to fill them with. I'm going to work off a MacBeth witches theme.

Nothing much else.  Stay safe in this heat/humidity!

Re: Friyay!

  • @VarunaTT do you think you have a scarcity mindset with your PTO? Like you're only allowed to take it in a crisis or when you're feeling super burnt out? Taking breaks is helpful in preventing the burnout too, and it's okay to take days, "just because." I'm trying to figure out how I can get some days off in the fall to have some fun fall activities like going to an apple farm, or baking something tasty, etc. Random days off help keep us sane.

Poor H got a little heat exhaustion on Tuesday, and he's still not well. I think it's also layered on with the fact that he hasn't really recovered from covid either. It's extremely hard to get him to stay still, so I'm hoping that he actually rests today. We're supposed to see my grandparents tomorrow.

I'm a little annoyed. I made an appointment at a medspa I go to, this is after they canceled my last appointment. Literally 2 hours after making the appointment they canceled again! And rescheduled me for a time I told them I couldn't make. I have a package I'm using up there, but this is the last straw. They've officially canceled me twice as much as I've actually gone. They're not that special. Plenty of other places would love to have another client, and they'll actually keep their appointments.

Otherwise, SSDD. I'm just tired. Talked to my BFF this morning which was nice. I'm feeling tense about hearing who VP pick is next week.

  • @levioosa I'm not really sure.  Usually I'm definitely a "use" it type person.  I never understood people who didn't, I was like YOU WORK FOR THAT AND YOU'RE JUST GIVING IT AWAY FOR FREE.  I think it's more that this a new job and it's easy, so it's kinda like...why use it.  I need to really sit down and plan some things out too.  Someone on Threads posted a way about how to use PTO to get 38 days off throughout 2025 and I've got that saved to look into as well.

I have signed up to get a text for VP announcement.  Did you hear that the NC governor took himself out of contention? B/c the Lt. Gov there is a terrible human (I listened to his opening speech at RNC and was sickened) and their Gov won't even leave the state to keep this man out of power for even a second?  We're having so many stories of just normal humans staring down fascists, it's giving me hope that I'm scared of.

I've had heat exhaustion before, big healing vibes to hubby.  That is no joke and I can't even imagine it layered on with covid exhaustion.  I'm surprised he's upright, no lie.
  • @VarunaTT, my cat is very vocal also.  Which has been such a change for us because our previous cat wasn't.  It's funny because you can tell she is trying to be as loud and insistent as possible, but her voice is so tiny.  She is also a "tree dweller"...phrase borrowed from Jackson Galaxy...and will get as high as she possibly can.  We sometimes find her on top of our fridge or stand-up freezer.

I'm glad Harley has been such a fun and loving companion for you!  Even if she has irritating moments (classic cat).  She deserves to be spoiled!

I need to catch up on sleep this weekend.  We'll probably hit some restaurants for the restaurant month coming up.  My work morning has not been productive (sigh), so I will need to stay a couple hours late.  If I didn't have to train this guy I wouldn't have to, so I'm bitter yet again they want me to train someone in the first place.

  • @levioosa hugs to your hubby.  We had some scares when we were in DC with the Girl Scouts and while standing at Arlington Cemetery waiting to go into the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier one girl was nearly in tears and I thought she was going to go down.  Even the person in charge said, "Yes you are supposed to stand but we've had a few people pass out so sit if you need to."  I was with moms who went to their bathroom/vending machine area and just started buying waters and throwing them to the girls.  We originally thought the thing was going to be faster than it was so it was scary.  It's no joke when you're so hot.

That’s so annoying about the appointment @levioosa! And I hope your H begins to feel better.
Just back from the pool, ran some errands prior to that, but not much else going on. The weekend is pretty quiet too which is nice.
  • Happy Friday!
@levioosa, sorry about H but also *middle finger gesture to that medspa*.  I once dealt with one that either canceled on you or probably didn’t make the appt in the first place because I showed up to my appt and they were like “you called and cancelled it”
”ummm I would have remembered that”.
and then I heard her on the phone with another client and was arguing a cancellation with that person and I’m like “oh i guess you have a system that just randomly drops appts then?”
They heard from me from yelp.  And google reviews.

ya’ll don’t want Pritzker as a running mate. Although I guess anyone living in a state with a runner up will probably say that.  Lol. Although my friend in PA said she’d like her governor to take it.

long weekend for me! I’m like you @VarunaTT, and don’t like taking pto if I don’t have to.  I was going to just see my brother for the weekend and drive home Sunday night because every day is precious for me, but my brother asked to stay and help look after the boys on Monday while he did some farming things farmer do? Something to do with chickens. I dunno. It all gets lost on me.  So I’m driving home Monday now.

  • We’re here, maybe not thriving but hanging in. M has a cough we’re trying to keep from J; I canceled my NYC trip given everything we have happening. Trying to find some fun things to do instead.

Watching so much Olympics! Track and field finally started o J and I have been watching all day!!
  • Aw, I'm sorry about your trip @charlotte989875. I hope everyone has a speedy recovery and J doesn't get sick!

@charlotte989875 and @levioosa I'm sorry H and J are sick. I hope they are better soon. And bad, bad medspa!

Nothing really going on with me. I have a "friend" (yes, the quotation marks are there for a reason) who is in a restaurant mystery diner program who is always looking for people to go with her to restaurants she likes. She gets a deal that is supposed to be for lunch today at a restaurant in downtown Houston that she likes (I've been there before with her but I have mixed feelings about it; sometimes the service is good and sometimes not, the food is okay but I think it's overpriced and the location requires parking in a pay lot) and it turned out that unknown to both her and the program she's in, the restaurant recently changed its hours and killed the lunch program. It doesn't open until 3pm and we were there around 12:30 or so. Finding it closed, we went elsewhere, but she couldn't stop talking about it. And she's one of those people who can't stop talking.

Beyond that, doing yoga, continuing professional education and job hunting while working contract jobs.

    But, yay Team USA!
