Monday

How was everyone's weekend?

Re: Monday

  • Weekend was decent. We had date night on Saturday. We saw Deadpool and Wolverine. It was okay. Pretty much exactly what I expected. Then we tried a “new” place near our house for an after movie drink and snack and holy cow we had the best shrimp empanadas there. I’m glad we had a good experience, last time we tried to eat there the hostesses were sooooo bratty. We asked for a wait estimate and they refused to give it to us. This was much better.

@Casadena if it helps you feel better, getting my tonsils out was like ten times less painful than all of the times I had severe strep. I had to be careful and eat soft/pureed foods but honestly it was helped significantly with some children’s liquid Motrin and I remember thinking that compared to the last bout of strep it was a cakewalk. It felt like just a bad sore throat instead of the swallowing knives feeling I was used to with strep. Hopefully it is the same way for N too.

Weekend here was a mixed bag. Saturday we ran at the park, watched the US women soccer win gold and spent a couple of hours on the paddle boards. Then that evening I hosted a cookout. My mom and sister were both here, and mom got really nasty with my sister for no reason. It was pretty ugly and pretty embarrassing for our friends to see mom acting that way. Sis is trying to make light of it, but I know she's pretty upset about it and I don't know how to help her.

Sunday was a boot camp in the park and then we did a long tubing ride in the middle of nowhere. It was super fun, but H lost a shoe, his sunglasses and his shirt. I think he's ready to stay indoors for a bit.
  • @levioosa noooooo I didn’t want it to be just “ok”.  I was actually planning on seeing that tonight!

weekend was really a lot of fun.  Girls weekend in Spring Green WI, but we drove to the Dells Saturday after realizing it was only 1 hr away from us.  If you ever are in Wisconsin Dells, try “totally 80’s” the 80’s experience.  If you’re into that kinda nostalgia….

  • Weekend was alright.  Went to see Indiana Jones in the theatre.  I ended up falling asleep.  My eyes are better, but they're still sensitive to light and the theatre was really bothering them.  I closed them and bam, asleep.  Annoying, but I enjoyed what I watched.  Sunday I just caught up on chores.

Had to call maintenance and go the T from the maintenance guy.  The building is just for sale right now.  He said the owner is just downsizing, which is what I had thought was going on.  We were talking about the rent.  He said that the business as a whole always stays under market, but they always stay close to 100% full too, rather than continuing to move rents up and have 15-20% empty, which is what other management companies are running.  So, fingers crossed that no one buys.

Not much else going on today.  It's my mom's birthday. I already gave her gift to her and a card.  I'm going over for dinner tomorrow since it's the anniversary of dad's death.  Figured it was more important to be there for that.
  • @CharmedPam it wasn’t bad, per se, it was exactly what I thought it would be. Lots of pop culture, inside jokes, fourth wall breaks, cameo, gore and quips. I don’t think I can say there was any great super depth to it, but overall it was enjoyable, I just am not a huge fanboy over it lol.

*hugs* @VarunaTT what a heavy few days. I hope your apartment situation works out okay too.

Eh, it’s part of my monthly subscription, why not? Plus I see it’s actually not that full right now.

  • Well I've been lurking for the past week. We were to be on vacation in SC last week, but I'm sure y'all know there was this little storm called Debby that appeared. We arrived Saturday night and had a lovely day on Sunday. By Sunday night, the Charleston mayor was saying that tourist should leave if they could. Since we had the three grandsons with us, we decided to leave first thing Monday morning. DS1 and DIL were to arrive Monday late morning but they had already decided not to fly down. So H, DS2 and I drove home in our car. DD and her family drove to our house in their rented mini van. DS1 and DIL came over Wednesday afternoon for the rest of the week. They drove DS2 to Columbus, Ohio on their way home Saturday so that he could pick up his car at the airport. Needless to say it was not the vacation I was very much looking forward to having. The grandsons had a blast at Nana and Papa camp 2.0 with uncles and aunt along with parents in attendance. It just wasn't a vacation for me and H.

All that being said we made it home safely, the rental agency is giving us a credit for our unused nights towards next year, the photographer we had booked is transferring our deposit to next year, and we had our Indy photographer take family pictures in our yard. To be honest, if we hadn't had little ones with us, we would have stayed. My friend who lives on the island where we stay said it really wasn't all that bad. There was some minor flooding and they had a tree come down but didn't lose power (that was what we were afraid of happening). It all depended on where you were in the Charleston area.

I am now recovering from having a houseful for almost a week. I have all the bedrooms redone and bathrooms cleaned. All I need to do is clean the kitchen and mop the floor. That won't get done until Wednesday because I am going to a book club pool party tomorrow and enjoying myself!
  • So sorry you had to cut it short @ILoveBeachMusic, but glad you’re all safe!

  • @Casadena, do you think the Great Wolf Lodge would be fun for just adults?  It looks fun!  But I'm always wary with family friendly places that they're only going to be fun for kids.

They used to have cute commercials for them where these almost house-sized wolves (A1) showed up on vacation morning and woke the family up.  Then the parents and kids would climb on their backs and they all went running off down the street to go to Great Wolf Lodge.

@ILoveBeachMusic, oh man!  That's such a long drive to be there for only one day!  But you all made the right call.  When the mayor tells people to leave, they should go.  After the fact, leaving often wasn't necessary.  But you don't know in the moment and it's better to be safe than sorry.

  • Yes i think that adults could have fun there without kids. Waterslides were super fun, bars and restaurants with decent food (nothing groundbreaking or outstanding, but good options). But really everything else is pretty geared toward kids and it's pretty expensive. So if the indoor waterpark was the draw for an adult, i'd stay at a hotel nearby and just get day passes for the pool area, then have better dinner options and quieter hotel for sleeping!

We liked staying there with kiddos because our kids aren't strong swimmers or tall enough for most slide yet - so their pool limit is about 2 hours at a time max. We were there friday evening through sunday morning and were at the pool 5 times - it was nice to have other activity options and the hotel room right there when they needed a break.

This.  I stayed at a hotel that featured a waterpark and those kids run up and down the halls all hours of the day and night!
edit: parents of the kids aren’t any better
