Thirsty Thursday

I have been watching Foundation on Apple TV.  I always thought Lee Pace was attractive; his role as Empire/Day and walking around half naked a lot has definitely been an enjoyable feature of the show.  I'm barely into season 2, but I do like it.  It's definitely not for everyone; I would say that if you're not a sci-fi fan, it's not super approachable.  I've tried to read the series before (Asimov) and it was never able to capture me quickly enough.  Pyschohistory is sure an interesting thought experiment though.

Did allergy shots this morning.  They've had a lot of new nurses through recently and I had one.  She was not great at giving these shots.  Some of them are so slick, I barely feel it.  I ended up flinching on all 3 with her and she put the serum in really slow, which makes it hurt worse too.  I was like, get the damn itch cream and ice patch on me, hurry up, in my head.  But usually they're great by the time I go back.  The clinic sees something like 500 people/day for these shots, so I'm sure it's hella good training/experience.

Otherwise, SSDD.  I'm really restless, but I also don't feel like planning everything.  I need a friend to pop up with an invitation.

  • Re: TV Shows. We started Industry (MAX, season 1...it's on season 3) and the new AppleTV+ show with Vince Vaughn called Bad Monkey this week.  Both pilots were OK, but I need to watch more to see if either is something we'll stick with.

I'm having one of those weeks where I think becoming an adult is the worst thing I ever did.  Nothing major has happened, just all the stuff seems to be coming all of the time and all at once.  Also, I'm just annoyed by other people's inability to adult the way I want/need them to.  Blah.

    SSDD otherwise.

At least it's Prudie day.  ;)
  • @Casadena, YAY for deals.  Hearing about people's shopping scores is one of my love languages.

I am always so excited when I hit up a Marshall's/TJ Max/Nordstrom Rack when they've just done a massive clearance push.  It's totally a 'is it Christmas?!' day.  LOL
  • Oooh, thanks for the tip! I need some new stuff and love a good Marshall's haul!

I'm just over it today. My work project that will never die is refusing to die. My boss is really trying to help, but I know she's fighting an uphill battle. I'm going out with a couple of friends tonight for a friend's birthday. I have a weird relationship with these two and kind of want to back off, but I feel a lot of guilt about it since we've been friends for 25 years. Blerg.
  • Hm, we were supposed to go to Marshall's last Sunday but maybe it's better we waited until now.

Today is gonna be long. I feel it in my bones. lol. I left work late yesterday too. I have a dentist appointment this weekend and I'm not looking forward to it. Otherwise SSDD. I'm trying to actually finish my coffee this morning for once.

  • @VarunaTT, I was getting some lab work done.  I do have a little bit smaller veins and you can't see them on my left arm.  The nurse was having trouble with the vein, but finally got it in.  Okay, great.  But then it was taking a really long time.  Hmmm.  I finally made a comment (I was careful to sound more conversational and not complaining) like, "It's taking longer than usual today."  She told me because she'd been having trouble, she changed the needle to a pediatric one which will take longer.  I appreciated at least knowing why, but I was surprised at how much longer it took.

@Casadena, Oh!  Let me tell you the rude thing I've learned about alcohol and weight loss.  There is the obvious, that alcohol is empty calories.  But it doesn't stop there.  Alcohol also slows down the chemical reactions that break down fat.

When I first started taking my GLP-1, I quit alcohol cold turkey for three months.  Partly because I was actively trying to lose weight.  But also because I heard horror stories online of people having 1-2 day hangovers even after just a couple drinks on this medication.

Then I slowly introduced alcohol back in.  Fortunately, I haven't had any negative side effects.  I wasn't a huge drinker before anyway, but I have majorly cut down because I still have a good bit of weight to lose.  I don't need alcohol slowing down my metabolism any further than the snail's pace it's already at, lol.  With all that said, it feels like too much sacrifice to totally give up.  I go weeks without drinking at all.  But allow myself 1-3 drinks occasionally, if I'm in the mood.

  • I had to have blood drawn this morning for my annual physical next week. The phlebotomist was amazing! I'm a really difficult draw but she did it with one stick!

I had personal training then came home to mop the kitchen and boy did it need it. I beat and think I need a nap. We have a fund raiser this evening for the Y. We are hosting a table. I don't really want to go but we have to since we are hosting. I think this will be the last year I do this. I'm pretty sure I'm going to resign from the board this year. I don't really like the style of our new executive director.

I've been cutting down on alcohol too. Last week I drank more than usual because it was "staycation" with everyone home. This week I'm back to my usual maybe one or two glasses of wine a week. Some weeks I don't have any.
  • @ILoveBeachMusic, vacations are an exception for my semi-tea totaling, lol.  I'm glad you were still in somewhat of a vacation-mode, considering the venue suddenly changed to your house!
