Prudie Day

How goes it?  Kind of just slogging along over here, but no complaints.
I don't know what I'm making for dinner later and that's not like me, I think I'm just readjusting to working bc I usually have a plan.  Will definitely return to that swing his weekend.

Re: Prudie Day

  • Things are good here, M is doing great in the new classroom and J slept a little better last night.

Next week is going to be crazy busy as I’m in person every day for full day development sessions. My manager is sort of head in the sanding it about my transition and I’m pretty sure he’s not going to be at all prepared for when I leave even though I have 4 weeks notice.
  • I also am hating what happened in GA. I can’t imagine those parents, excited about their kids going back to school and starting new classes and new friends, to have their babies never come home.

Thinking of you @ei34 working with kids and all of you who have kids in school. It doesn’t have to be this way.
  • I'm hating it too.  Especially that it's something that is beyond avoidable but just, keeps on happening.  I didn't mean to not bring it up ^, my heart is broken for the victims' families.  But my coworkers and I were all shaking our heads this morning in a "happened once again" way. It's exhausting to talk about. Love to all the parents who have to worry about their kids each and every day.
  • Back to work today!  DH will get more results once the samples that were taken are analyzed from his endoscopy and we know he has a hiatal hernia which....is annoying but not saying why he often feels so rough.

We are full on in the September zone and the packed schedules and double bookings are just full of anxiety.   'I'll feel way better once we're through the month.  Next Tuesday alone I have a 504 zoom for Chiquita at noon, I have to grab her from soccer practice at 4:30, get Chiquito to soccer for 6, attend a religious ed meeting at 6:45 and then get Chiquito home at 7:30 all for us to eat and have DH ready for a scout meeting he has at 8:30.  It's so much.
  • OMG, yesterday was a crazy day!  I've had this huge project to get done and really didn't have the time.  Despite that, I got most of it done in August.  I was determined to work as late as I needed to and finish it yesterday.  But I truly thought the last piece would only take me 1-2 hours and I could get some/all of it done in my normal work hours.

I was very mistaken.  I didn't finish it up until about 9:30 pm last night!

I realized this morning that because I didn't check this forum yesterday, I missed doing my Knottie football draft!  Hopefully Yahoo chose good options for me, lol.

I looked at the 10-day weather forecast and all the highs are down to the low-80s, with a few mid-80s exceptions.  The summer temp extremes have ended and that always makes me happy and relieved.

Though it's supposed to be a lot of rain and thunderstorms through Saturday.  I'm a little worried about that for today and tomorrow, because it floods easily around my work.  I might bring my laptop home tonight, as a precaution.

Seriously.  If you all ever have a hankering to visit New Orleans or any of the other southern cities around this latitude line, October and March are ((chef's kiss)) the BEST months for weather.  Low-mid 70s, so turn off and ignore your a/c and heater.  At least for NOLA, it's also our driest months.

  • Going for a walk with my book club today. The temps are going to be a little higher but not awful. More yard work to do this afternoon if my back can take it. Hopefully H will do some while I'm walking.

Hope the beginning of the year goes smoothly @ei34. I'm always envious of you NEers who start school after Labor Day! Our schools started over a month ago. Youngest grandson started preschool this week and loved it. That is a big improvement over last year at his mom's morning out - he wouldn't take his backpack off until the last month of the class! He is only going for two mornings a week - he is with the nanny and the nanny share families the rest of the time. His brothers did the same thing once schools were back post pandemic closures.

  • Thanks but no thanks McDonald’s.  Can’t have a winner every year I guess?

  • Back at work today and I'm so sad about it. I have regrets about not taking off the whole week. lol.

Weekend was a lot of fun! We went down to Torrey Pines and La Jolla and it was just so pretty. I am ready to be more frugal now. Birthday celebration was pretty successful and the hotel we stayed at was very nice and a good speed for us. For some reason it took us double the time it should have to get there on Saturday, but luckily on the way home it was quick. We celebrated H's birthday with SIL A and her H on Tuesday, and that was okay. Tbh I think H and I both would have preferred to stay home and celebrate together instead but we already had plans.

We started watching Kaos on Netflix and are really enjoying that. Probably all we will be able to do this weekend because it's going to be 110 like every day. Ugh.

Otherwise, SSDD. I can't even think about the Georgia situation. It makes me so incredibly sad and angry. It should never happen.

  • I was laid off this morning, I can’t be Prudie today.  I’m ok. DH is taking excellent care of me. I’m also better off than so many people in this position.

But fuck man, 24 years…poof in less than 5 min.

Oh no @mrsconn23 I'm so sorry.  You posted about a lot of the ups and downs and new changes you've had recently it's not fair to you.

    Take care of her Mr.Conn!
  • Oh no, @mrsconn23. I am so so sorry. Life is really throwing the shit at the fan for you guys lately and it's not fair. I know you were fighting for your team so hard too. I'm sending hugs and a double Bourbon your way.

  • @CharmedPam, ooohhh!  I like those!  They're cute little monsters.

The green bucket reminds me of Cookie Monster, except for being green of course.  The orange one reminds me of an owl, except for the horns? ears? on top of its head.

@levioosa, I'm glad you had a fun weekend!  One of my favorite spots I recommend to people visiting So. CA, is the Scripps Institute of Oceanography in La Jolla.  There are only a handful of oceanography institutes in the US, so it's a unique experience.  Plus the views from their large outside pavilion are stunning!

  • omg @mrsconn23!! I'm so sorry, that is absolutely wild.

  • Oh damn @mrsconn23 I’m so so sorry.
  • @short+sassy I totally would have done more in La Jolla if we had gone for more than just the weekend. H was a lucky duck (way back in college) and got to do a class that was involved with the oceanography institute and data collection for something in the Channel Islands. I'm so jealous every time he talks about it.

  • Oh, @mrsconn23, I'm so sorry. That seems really out of nowhere with how much you've been doing lately, but corporate never makes sense.
  • They’re the worst @mrsconn23, I’m so sorry. Aaaall the self care for you right now 😞🫶🏻
  • @mrsconn23, OMG!  I can't believe it!  It always sounded like such a great and solid job. I knew you'd been there a long time, but 24 years. Wow.  I'm so sorry to hear this.

I took an oceanography class in college to cover one of my science requirements.  We had a full day field trip at Scripps.  But that sounds extra cool your H participated with some work they were doing.

We had a few field trips with that class.  I felt like I was back in elementary school, but in a good way!  They weren't mandatory, but were so fun.  Plus since it was through the college, we got to see areas not open to the public.

We also went to Sea World and did a "behind the scenes" tour.  They have a huge area with injured seals and sea lions who are being rehabilitated, most of whom can be returned to the wild.  We watched a baby Emperor penguin getting his daily weight check.  Those are the two things I specifically remember.

As a kid in Girl Scouts we raised enough money to choose spending the night in Sea World's shark aquarium exhibit as a prize and that was literally the coolest thing my little brain could comprehend at the time. I desperately wanted to be a Marine Scientist and that felt like the start of the road to a long and successful career, ha.

As a full grown adult that still ranks high on my list of exciting and very cool!

However, my middle-aged body after sleeping on the floor in a sleeping bag would probably not agree, lol.

I don't know if you watch Bob's Burgers, but there is an episode where Lois's class spends the night at the aquarium.  She did the best in some contest her class did and got to toss the shark's meal into the tank.
