Dear Prudence,
My boyfriend of two years has a history of cheating when he was married and having a “platonic relationship” with a female acquaintance/friend when he was dating me. In the first year of dating him, I saw two text messages between him and his female friend saying something to the effect of “I miss you too. When can we get together for lunch?” In the past he has admitted to me he does look at women online on his phone and on his computer. He is very attached to his phone and rarely always has the volume down and keeps it face down. But recently, something’s changed.
I have expressed my concerns about his attachment and activity on his phone. In the past, he would argue that his habits are because he hates getting distracted during work and he forgets to turn it on after working hours. Only, in the last few months when we have argued about this matter, he tells me I can look at this phone, but I have not accepted his offer because it feels weird and uncomfortable for me to search his phone.
