Prudie Day

Much-needed Friday Eve. What a week. How’s everyone?

Re: Prudie Day

  • Yesterday evening was nice.  Thankfully nothing much going on today after work.

My sisters are having some drama (youngest is sharing middle’s nanny a few hours each day, effective two weeks ago). I’m trying to stay out of it, but I’m hearing both sides. Middle is definitely right but I feel for the position youngest is in.
  • Today is another busy day.  I'm scooting soon to take Chiquita to the pedi where we talk about possible medication for ADHD and anxiety, head back to work and then head out for her soccer game, drop the kids home and then from 6-8 I have my first back to school night as a parent of a HS student.

I Have really mixed feelings on the medication aspect but will hear the doc out.  I'm not against them but I think Chiquita thinks she's going to get magic beans and will be setting herself up for disappointment.
  • We are in Chicagoland for a long weekend. Watching the twins before and after school today while DD works. GS3 is with the nanny at the other nanny share house. We are staying overnight with all three boys Saturday while DD and SIL go into the city for their anniversary celebration.  It has really warmed up again up here. I'm sweating from walking the boys to school. I was wearing joggers but will be changing into shorts soon. H and I are free the rest of the day until we need to pick the twins up from school.

Good luck at the pedi this afternoon @banana468. DD is considering having one of the twins evaluated. I told her it couldn't hurt and it should would be better off knowing a diagnosis than not. It wouldn't necessarily mean medication but perhaps more therapy. Her best friend from high school was recently diagnosed (37 years old) and put on medication. She said it has made all the difference in the world for her. She wishes she had been diagnosed earlier but the symptoms for females are often so different than males so it is sometimes more difficult to diagnose in females thus treatment is harder. I'm sure you and your H will make the best decision for Chiquita and your family.
  • I hope you guys can develop a good plan and Chiquita can have realistic expectations (hard for a teen, I know) @banana468

Well, California is Californiaing. Fires and then this morning a 5.1 earthquake. H had plans to go under the house today to work on some stuff but now he's freaked out.

I am tired and feeling off today. I think it's because I feel like I'm spinning my wheels on a few things. I have a busy day ahead though. It cooled down noticeably today which is nice. It might even be in the low 70s next Tuesday. What a huge swing from the 115 a few days ago. I'm actually cold this morning and used the heater in the car.

    I'm glad you're feeling better! @VarunaTT

  • It's been a week and I'm ready for the distraction of Prudie. Work has been a total shit show and everyone is cranky. I apparently pissed off one of the IT VPs and she's snipping at me. Some audacity for me to expect IT to do IT support. Whatever, she'll move on to someone else soon, she always does.

We're getting the remnants of Francine today, and it's nice to have some rain, but the dreary weather is just matching my mood. Nothing much else going on today, I'm just a fucking ray of sunshine over here.
  • Hello!

SIL/BFF was in town last night due to taking care of some stuff for her grandma.  She stayed for dinner.  She's coming back tomorrow because she's starting the process to move her grandma to a facility closer to her.  Nephews have a day off school, so they're going to come hang out with me and other SIL.  SIL is going to have her mom and grandma in the same place which will be so much easier.

We were supposed to get Francine remnants this weekend, but no longer.  It's going to be hot again. Ugh.  I'm always annoyed that summer hangs on after Labor Day.  I'm beyond ready for fall.

    Prudie coming up.

  • Oh...did anyone watch the debate the other day? It was about what I expected. TBH I thought he sounded slightly less unhinged than normal. But I was laughing when she told people to go to a rally and see how bored people get.

Hitting him where he's most bothered - not on policy but on ego.
  • I'll share what I wrote on social media (I thought she did mostly an excellent jobs, the memes coming out are hysterical, I honestly believe I saw her do a breathing exercise at one point while he was rambling, if i never hear his racist rants again it'll be too soon, and though it would've be so unprofessional, I could here the "MFer" in her, "this........former president" so well):

I've been a paralegal for 20+ years, in a wide array of offices. I've supported and watched dozens of depositions, which realistically isn't a lot for some attorneys. It was obvious to me how GOOD Harris is at being an attorney. The skill on display, how she handled herself, the way she responded, her choice of words....all of it was a masterclass.

I made the statement that it was healing something inside of me and I think I've put my finger on it. So many marginalized folx who don't pass for a cishet white man, NEVER get an opportunity like she had. To look the person who is trying to keep you down, to thwart your success, who bullies you, who doesn't have half the knowledge, skills, and abilities that you do -- and absolutely defeat him. With your knowledge, your education, your natural charisma. To defeat him and have MILLIONS see it and cheer.

Thank you, Madame Vice President. I cannot wait to call you President Harris and all the thing that will means to so, So, SO many folx in this country.
  • Okay!  Survived Hurricane Francine unscathed, except for my power being out last night and all day today.  But came back on around 5pm.

We do have a generator that we previously hooked up to our natural gas line.  But for reasons I REALLY don't understand, my H had already "packed" the contraption that hooks it to the whole house.  So we had to run a gazillion extension cords for the things we wanted to stay plugged in.  But at least we didn't have to worry about our fridge/freezer/mini fridge.  We could have lamps on and charge things.  Our tenants next door plugged their fridge in also.  We still had plenty of power left and told them they could plug in other things, but they chose not to.

I spent Wednesday night hanging out on my porch with my H and our tenants.  Watching the torrential rain pouring sideways down our street because it was so windy!  A mini hurricane party.  It actually ended up being a really fun night.  We drank.  Imbibed some other things.  My tenant R was playing tunes from her phone.  She and I were singing it up because our neighbors couldn't hear us above the storm noise anyway.

Then it hit me. "F**k!  I might have to go to work tomorrow."  When we finally shut it down for the night, I checked Entergy's outage map (our electricity company).  My workplace never lost power, smh.  Those MF'ers.  Sure enough, a mass text goes out at 6:15am this morning that the office would be open.  But most of the stoplights on my route were without power, so I asked and my boss gave me permission to at least WFH today.  I ended up being super busy.  Thankfully my cable/internet was fine, even though I didn't have power.

I'd say about half the city lost power.  There are still a few neighborhoods that are out tonight, but most people got their power back sometime today.

I read other posts where people were laughing about how expertly she goaded him to amp up the crazy talking.

My favorite memes are the ones where a dog or cat runs to hide or shakes their head no, in "response" to the footage where Trump is talking about immigrants eating people's pets.
