Tired Tuesday

Feeling it today.  How's everyone?

Re: Tired Tuesday

  • I woke up at 3:40 and just couldn't get back to sleep.  If it was a quieter day I'd power through but I have an after school meeting will keep me at work an extra hour today and older DD's meet the teacher night from 6-9pm.  Yawn.  I'm staying on my game though bc booking for two fun Christmas-y things open today (a Polar Express train ride at 10...the Bronx Zoo Holiday Lights free members' night at some point today, though an exact time isn't posted).  And exH is being the worst right now.
  • @ei34 are you booking for the train in CT?  I saw that those tickets are on sale today for full cars.  We stopped going (I think Chiquito aged out and Chiquita was along for the ride) but it's so cute.  Ryan Reynolds was on it a few years ago when Blake was super pregnant (not my train - just that week).

I'm beat.  I'm catching up on sleep and woke up so tired.  I did work out but I need more coffee.

We have Chiquita's 504 at noon today to talk about the medical needs she has and Thursday I talk to the pedi about ADHD meds.  I'm concerned that her inattentiveness is already making her miss assignments and she said she's trying.  It's frustrating for me as the mom who wants her kid to succeed and I know that she knows she wants to succeed especially with GPA requirements for many extracurriculars.

I am strongly considering telling DH that we need a cleaning service even if it means we need to take days off to just sort through our crap.  He's not feeling great, the findings of his endoscopy aren't really leading to anything that can be treated to bring a big change, and a lot of the scrub house maintenance falls on me and the autumn is just so packed.  If I can get people to scrub my bathroom and kitchen floors and basic laundry that takes SO MUCH off my plate.

Also, I'm sorry your X is being the worst.  Is back to school a time that he's getting less attention or something?  I'm sorry this falls on you and you do so much to try to not let it affect the relationship he has with the kids.

  • Ugh, @ei34 maybe because the school season and holiday season is gearing up, so he feels the needs to draw attention to himself?  I'm sorry.

you ladies are always so busy, it makes me sleepy for you.

Today is going to be a rough one.  I did sleep somewhat okay.  I'm still having to sleep sitting up because of congestion and I'm so incredibly thankful I have an adjustable bed so that I can actually sleep, sitting up, in bed -- and not on the couch.  Woke up with an almost normal temperature, so if it stays that way, I'll test tomorrow and see if maybe I can leave my house.

    Otherwise, SSDD.
  • Oof.  I tried to score Billy Joel tickets and...I'm not going to buy them.  The cost of the tickets for far away seats was eeking close to $400 ea and coupled with dinner that puts the night out at nearly $1,000.  I can't.  I love the Piano Man and saw him w/ Elton back 22 years ago but...I can't stomach that price tag.  DH and I looked and immediately agreed that's just not how we want to spend for a night out.  I'll call the radio stations the week of the concert to see if I can be the 9th caller or something.

@banana468 we finally bit the bullet on a cleaning service, it's only been a couple times and we need to work out a few adjustments, but overall it's been so much less stressful already knowing that the bathrooms and kitchen wont' even have a chance to get gross.

@ei34 - I hate for you that you're still having to deal with Ex-H's BS, hope you have a good week and he starts behaving.
  • H and I have a therapy appointment shortly and I get so anxious about therapy i have a hard time focusing in the morning. Only time we can really commit though is a break in the workday when kids are out of the house.

Going to yoga at lunch and doing stuff around the house later while keeping an eye on my email. This week is pretty chill - i finished up my big project for current team last week and will start my new job next Monday. So right now just coasting and helping with one-off requests this week as they come up. So for now, lots of decluttering/goodwill trips and organizing.
  • My H tested our generator yesterday.  I don't want to jinx it, but it was working perfectly.  Bring it Francine!

My work.  As usual.  An e-mail message was sent this morning about fridges will be cleaned out today, in case of power loss and to please empty personal mini fridges.  But more important info about what to expect for working in various scenarios?  NO!  Of course not.  They also have a mass texting system for storms, but didn't mention that either so I'm not sure if it's still around.

The trainee I complain about has now advanced to my biggest office pet peeve.  Playing the radio audibly instead of wearing headphones.  It's not loud.  But if I can hear it, then it's too loud!  Ironically, if he played it at a normal volume, that wouldn't bother me.  But when it's a constant somewhat indistinguishable noise that's only a few levels above my hearing, it is like nails on a chalkboard to me.  Except he can't play it at a normal level because then a bunch of other people could hear it.

I'm letting it go for today.  Maybe he's trying to be extra aware of storm news.  But if it happens again the next time I'm in the office, I will say something.

I also spoke to him in an obviously annoyed tone this morning, which I feel a little bad about.  But this is the third or fourth time I've instructed him NOT to do something yet.  But then he does it anyway because sometimes he's bored and has nothing to do.

I warned him when he started and have warned him multiple times, including this morning, that I don't have f/t work for him.  And in another 1-2 months, I probably won't have any work for him.  I get it!  I don't like to be sitting around not being productive either.  But that's what this role often is.  It's feast or famine.  So, he needs to get used to that.

I've nicely suggested ways he can bulk up his Excel and computer skills when he has extra time.  Now THAT would actually be useful.  But he doesn't seem to apply himself in that way.

I didn't know he had almost no other work with this company when he started.  Maybe they were planning to keep him on the payroll either way.  But it would really be dumb for me to spend SO MUCH of my time training him and then they lay him off in a few months.  I guess we shall see.

Or maybe they're leaning toward not letting me work remote when I move and he will be my replacement.  Gooooddd luck with that, lmao.  He doesn't have the right skill set for this job and some of that I can't teach him.

So tired too.  Was a late night. TNG (the new guy lol) slept over because it’s a work from home day for me, but he’s not used to the TV on all night like I am, so I’m trying to accommodate and turn it off when he’s around - and because I just internally know when the TV is off, I was up ALL night just looking around the dark room. Even played on my phone a bit. He told me I could always turn it back on when he’s out because he can sleep through it and I just might.  I know a ton of girls who do the whole TV on throughout the night and we think it’s a “single girls” thing.  Anyone else?
Funny story, we did watch boogeyman last night and I said “they wouldn’t have boogeyman issues of their house wasn’t so dark!”
    ”babe?”
    ”yeah?”
    ”babe”
    ”yeah”
    ”your house is also dark”
fine! He’s right.  But I don’t have boogeyman issues either!

I’m sorry he’s back to being a PITA @ei34, I had high hopes for you since you said he was getting better.
$1,000 for a concert? No can do either @banana468.  Maybe just stay in, get take out, and watch a concert on TV of his real loud?
Hopefully it gets better enough where you can sleep normally @VarunaTT

  • @CharmedPam, my H and I have this conflict also.  He likes to keep the tv on when he goes to sleep and I hate it.  Our compromise is he sets the timer on the tv remote, so it at least automatically shuts off when he has fallen asleep.  And if he hasn't, he can turn it back on.

But I won't fall into a deep sleep if there is noise and lights like that in the room.  I'll randomly wake up in the middle of the night from the noise.  Or I'll start having weird dreams that incorporates whatever is on the TV.

  • Thanks everyone.  He didn't really see the kids much this summer so I'm not sure how much back to school impacts him.  Unless it's from the angle of the kids and I are back to having a routine and he still doesn't (though, this wild thing called getting a job might help him with that).

@banana468 good luck at the 504 meeting and it's the North Fork Trolley Polar Express ride.  We usually do the Whippany NJ ride, north Jersey and super eastern Long Island are about equidistant for me, but the kids wanted to go at night this year, and while I'll do the LIE at night, I'm not doing bridges and tunnels (not a huge fan of night driving).  The Essex Junction one does look really nice though!
@CharmedPam I'm a no-tv-in-the-bedroom type of person so I side more with TNG, but it also wouldn't be a hill I'd die on, so I think a compromise could work.
@Casadena good luck with the therapy appt!
@levioosa just saw the terrible BS you went through yesterday with your Dr appt yesterday, I'm really sorry
@short+sassy stay safe!  Glad the generator works!
@mrsconn23 how are you?  And how are you @Jen4948
  • LOL @CharmedPam!  There are a few bands/musicians that we like to follow so maybe we'll see if there's a concert of his on TV or we'll spring for nicer tickets to a band we see more often like Goose or see if another show comes to town.  I just can't stomach nearly $400 for only fair seats.  Same reason why I didn't plunge into the Swifty zone.
  • @levioosa, Ugh!  I can't imagine why anyone would want to hike with such poor air quality.  I have so much sympathy for you all.  The hurricanes in the Gulf and the wildfires in CA just seem like they're getting more frequent and severe every year.

I remember occasionally going to Los Angeles as a "never smoked a cigarette/perfectly healthy lungs" teenager.  My chest would tighten when I breathed and it was like I could only get 70% of my usual air.  That was from smog, not wildfires.  But I'd think smoke/ash in the air feels even worse.

  • I'm exhausted.  I slept like crap last night.  Because my life needs more fuckery, FIL decided to be dramatic last night.  So instead of doing the things we needed or wanted to do, he had to go deal with that. And when we talked about it, my reaction was not great because I was so angry.  He was HERE Friday night when DH was struggling, so the fact that he laid what he did on DH was infuriating.

It was doubly annoying because SIL and I had a wonderful day out shopping and grabbing lunch.  I also was really excited about the dinner I'd planned.  Ugh.

And yesterday, the toilet seat in the half-bath broke and the screws came out of one side of a hinge on our pantry door. Not big deals, but like...argh on top of the above BS.  DH and I had a hot lunch date to Lowe's and Culver's drive-thru.  LOL
  • Ugh Mrsconn. I'm so sorry. Life needs to calm down. You guys deserve a minute of some peace and quiet.

  • Score!

My work just announced an official "hurricane" day tomorrow because the office will be closed.  They would like us to WFH from home if we are able, but will pay us for the day or any hours we are not able to.

They said they expect the office to be open on Thursday, but will alert us with their text system (it DOES still exist, lol) if that changes.

  • @ei34 The hurricane didn't come to Houston. I'm buried under a ton of work because major deadlines are coming up Monday and then October 15. Other than that, I'm okay.
