Prudie Day

Finally on the right side of the work week.  How's everyone?

Re: Prudie Day

  • Yesterday was nonstop until about 8pm, I'm still feeling it. I have my school's meet the teacher night (we call it meet the creature night lol) this evening from 6:30-9, but thankfully nothing else.
I have events to bake for tomorrow evening and also Saturday morning, so I'm trying to figure out when that will happen too.
  • Yesterday finally started to feel like we're heading into a more normal mode.  I spent my lunch hour cleaning my floors to catch up from what I didn't do over the weekend.  Tomorrow Chiquita is inducted into the Tri M music society and this weekend the kids have soccer games and I'm subbing at church on Saturday so I have music to learn.

Conveniently it's going to rain later afternoon and I anticipate a wet Banana watching Chiquita's game today.
  • Since I've figured out how to handle leftovers in a manner that I will eat them, I'm going after some "cook once, eat...." type cookbooks to see what I can do for myself to lower some of my eating issues.

I slept horribly last night.  I fell into an internet rabbit hole and was reading about all sorts of stuff.  Looked up and it was 11:30.  I only slept a bit later, but oof, I'm feeling the difference this morning.

    Otherwise, SSDD.
  • Yesterday was awful. I'm going to lose it on one of the people who schedules for me. Plus the heat was making me absolutely rage out. We still don't have air. It had to be 95 in my office/patient rooms at least because when I left work I thought, "wow, it's so cool outside, it must be like 68-70." (I also didn't leave work until almost 7). I got in my car and looked and nope, it was still 82 degrees out. So for me to feel that cool meant it was super hot. I brought a thermometer today because I'm salty like that. It's already 75 in my office and the sun hasn't even hit the building yet AND I was able to get a stand up fan in my office which I left on all night. I actually felt ill yesterday after leaving work.

Anyways, two more days of hell and then I don't know what the weekend has planned. I'd like to spud but I'm trying to weigh a guilty conscience of visiting the grandparents with the fact that I am red lining and need a legit break.

You know what I love making, @VarunaTT? Casseroles.  Anything that involves a bag or two of cheese :) they re heat well too.
I would switch offices with you @levioosa.  It’s gotta be 65 in here.  Always cold and everyone complains about it.  75 is a dream!

2nd day where no one is in my office.  Lots of people are sick or traveling or just don’t want to be here. Lol. I’m waiting on a stupid delivery (it’s probably not) so I’m going to verify it’s coming today by the sender otherwise there’s no point staying here alone.
also, i noticed my hair has been greasy which leads it to look more thin than it already is. I don’t need any help in that department. Maybe the shampoo isn’t washing out fully? I bought this and it made a world of difference! I just googled the best shampoo for oily hair. I also use a batana oil at night which could be causing extra grease.  It’s supposed to help hair growth but smells like almond butter (yummy actually) but very oily.

  • @CharmedPam I know I just sound difficult.  I have an apartment sized refrigerator, so I don't really have much freezer space.  Plus, I'm TERRIBLE about taking out of the freezer to eat.  That means eating the casserole for almost 2 weeks.  I just kinda get the ick about anything in the fridge after about 5 days. I do have a breakfast casserole I really like but I burned out on it after about 6 months of eating it for breakfast every day. Then add lactose intolerance on top of it and a lot of casseroles are just a no go.  I have some safe ones I really do like, but I try to use them sparingly because of previously mentioned issues.  I fully realize I have what seems silly food requirements, but making stuff I'm not going to enjoy eating, just makes eating harder and it's already hard.

  • @VarunaTT could you benefit from recipe books that are things like casseroles for two?  Not looking to pair you up but maybe there are ways to make a casserole that won't last too long?

With a smaller dish and a recipe that isn't lasagna for a family if the flavor is good it's going to be dinner and lunch the next day.
  • @banana468 that's kinda what I'm looking to do with the cook once, eat (fill in the blank).  I ordered a few cookbooks from the library.  Even if the dishes are for 4 people, I can halve and maybe get a few meals with only having to cook 1-2 meals for the week.  I don't mind sharing with my mom, but I don't want to get into the position of her expecting it and then me not feeling like cooking and now Mom is hungry.  I used to have a cookbook where it was basically cook this much of this protein and then use the protein in 3-4 different ways with small changes and it made life easier.  That one was left at exH's house.  I didn't see it in print anymore and the library doesn't seem to have it.  If it's tasty, I don't really mind eating it for 3-4 times anymore -- I separate it all into individual meal prep containers and then all I have to do is reheat and it's ready.  That seems to work well for me, rather than just one big dish where I have to spoon out my portion for the day.  IDK why, seems silly, but it satisfies my brain so I take it.

I fell into a bit of rabbit hole last night.  I was advising a tenant in a landlord forum.  But ran into a couple things I wasn't sure about, which doesn't happen that often.  Then I'm always curious to know the answer!

It had to do with service dogs and pools and his apartment complex that does not allow dogs.  Not his service dog.  His girlfriend's, who is not a tenant.  But she's still protected by the ADA for her service dog as a resident's guest, no different than if she was walking into a store.

They went to the apartment pool and this was where they messed up.  They let the dog INTO the pool.  I know service dogs are allowed almost everywhere.  But IN a pool?  Hmmm.  I wasn't sure, so I looked it up.  They are NOT.  They must be allowed in a pool area, but not in the pool itself.  With one exception.  If they jump in to save their person, that's okay.  That part did not apply to his story, but I passed it along.

The dog in the pool caused a major kerfluffle between him and the apartment complex.  But this is where they were idiots.  They should have just stuck to "dogs aren't allowed in the pool, even if they are service dogs".  Because that is 100% correct.  They could have given him a Cure or Quit notice, outlining if his visitor's dog was ever found in the pool again he would need to move out or be evicted.

But instead they waded into illegal and discriminatory territory by asking him for her doctor's note about the dog.  This is allowed in some states for rental residents.  But the ADA only allows businesses to ask two questions about a person's need for a service animal.  They do not allow a business to ask for a doctor's note or anything like that.  The complex also asked more invasive questions than the ADA allows.  Like they wanted to know exactly what her medical condition was that required a service dog (eyeroll).

I also warned him he's responsible for any damage her service dog causes.  If the apartment complex wants to change the filters and do a deep clean of the pool, which is what is recommended if a dog gets into a public pool (Googled this also), he's responsible for that.

So that's my "unqualified, but researched" legal minute for the day, lol.

  • I used to have that one, @banana468!  It's a really good cookbook.  I left most of the cookbooks with exH, except the ones I really loved.  I took most of the nice kitchen stuff (because they were gifts from my mother), so I felt like I should leave the cookbooks in exchange.
  • @VarunaTT, I feel a lot of similarities with you, lol.  I don't hate cooking, but I don't like to do it either or spending the time to do it.  Anything with more than 20 minutes of prep and I want to pull my hair out.

As such, my husband and I almost always cook in batches.  It needs to be at least four meals so we can each have it twice.

But I also don't like eating the same meal two days in a row, so I have to be careful in not having too many leftovers in the fridge.

I NEED to have the convenience of having healthy meals in the fridge I can grab. Otherwise, I won't make good choices when it feels like too much for me to cook.  Which alas, is most of the time.

  • I'm dragging today. I've been in the office for a training thing all week. It's been really good, but I'm not used to sitting anywhere all day, especially not a classroom. I'm drained by the end of the day. We were supposed to have our last day today, but apparently we're about to get hit with Helene so they closed the building and told everyone to WFH. So far it's just heavy rain, but I'm glad to not have to get out in traffic today anyway.

Nothing much else going on. If the power goes out I'm logging out and going to bed.
  • @MyNameIsNot, I hadn't looked at what was happening with Helene for the last few days, but just did.  Oof!  They're talking about it making landfall as a Cat. 4 and there's the potential for massive flooding in FL.  I really hope it won't be as bad as that, but it's probably wishful thinking.

Good luck!  May the storm gods of electricity smile favorably upon you.

It’s the day after my colonoscopy.  Does anyone know if I’ll be comfortable traveling for 4… 4.5 hours the next day?

  • @CharmedPam I was fine after my colonoscopy once I slept the anesthesia off and got some food in me, so definitely should be fine by the next day.
  • @CharmedPam Once the anesthesia wore off (during which time I cried about how much I loved my cat, lol), I felt totally fine. I was a little sleepy and hungry, but other than that I didn't feel the need to go home and spud. I think my Mom and I went shopping actually. lol

  • @charmedpam, My mom and I joke that the colonoscopy is the best nap of your life. It's enough anesthesia that you can come home and sleep even if you're an insomniac, but not enough that it stays in your system for long. I napped for an hour and pigged out the day of mine.
  • Interesting.  I’m hoping to come home that day and log in and not take a precious PTO day for it. I don’t use PTO for unfun stuff. My friend told me it makes your skin so clear and smooth.  Better than a spa package lol!

Yessssss. I struggle so hard with insomnia and it was literally the best. I thought, "no wonder MJ used propofol for sleep. This really is magic."

That'll depend on how your colonoscopy goes. I was under for an hour and a half because they did find polyps on me and one was in the most difficult spot to reach and flat (the worst of all worlds).  While I wasn't in any discomfort, it did take awhile for the meds to wear off and I was kinda foggy for most of the day.  Plus I was supposed to be in at 1, didn't get in until 3 and the level of hangry I achieved was BAD.   I don't think I could've worked the same day.

    Oh. I didn’t say I’d work. I said log in.  :)

  • Dumb question - I didn’t realize you went full under for a colonoscopy I guess I’ve never thought about it- but are you awake enough afterwards to drive yourself home? Hoping yes bc I don’t want to burden my parents or siblings 😝 are you awake enough to order an Uber??

It's not full anesthesia, I think they call it twilight.  But I wouldn't have been allowed to have the procedure if I didn't have a driver for home.  IDK about an Uber, I don't think I could have and I'm not sure they would've let me, but I didn't check.  I was pretty alert immediately afterwards, but once I had food I went back to sleep.
  • I'm assuming it's similar to an endoscopy in terms of the anesthesia and DH was not allowed to drive himself home.  There were signs on walls of the office saying "Uber is not allowed to be your ride home" as well.

DH and I are due for our colonoscopies next year when Chiquita will have her 2nd.  Maybe we can all go at the same time and get an overnight rate?

I'm not sure what Chiquita had for her two scopes.  She was in awful shape and woke up worse which didn't surprise anyone.  I literally didn't "get" that DH would be upright after his endoscopy because Chiquita was so ill.   A few days after her diagnosis the docs put her on TPN and she needed a PICC line put in.  When she did I was able to go with her to have the procedure done which was short and she was on Propofol.  Girlfriend talked the whole time!  She was asking for her itches to be scratched and how she needed me to do it.  Still remembers it too!

I did have a patient furious with me the other day because their gastroenterologist refused to do an awake procedure and they were demanding it. All I could think was, you can't put me asleep fast enough for that. If I could be knocked out for a Pap I'd probably do that too. lol.
I feel the same way about major dental procedures.  It's BARBARIC some of the things they do with no anesthesia at all.

Years ago I had a periodontist tell me I needed to get gum surgery to best save my teeth.  Even at the time, I had no doubt she was right.  As an aside, I never did the surgery and still have most of my teeth.  But I've had one tooth fall out and three that have needed to be taken out, due to pain.  Fortunately none that can be seen so far.  But I know it is just a matter of time before I need dentures.

She tells me about the procedure.  That she will rip off parts of the roof of my mouth and graft it to my gums so they have more mass.  I ask about anesthesia.  There is none.  I couldn't even believe it.  Surgery.  In a highly sensitive area like your mouth.  No anesthesia, not even a local.  Then she's acting like it's no big deal and didn't know what my problem was.  She didn't actually say those things, but it was the vibe.

She said she would give me a prescription for pain medicine ahead of time and I would take some the morning of.  Then gave me extra assurances that she would have the roof of my mouth and gums all numbed up "just like it is for my gum scalings".

That was one of the worst things she could have said!  Gum scalings are 45 minutes of constant, sharp pain.  The only thing numbing does is make it tolerable instead of abject torture.

  • I've had 3 colonoscopies and always had to have a driver, not allowed an Uber. I can't remember what drug they used though. H said I was hilarious though saying dumb stuff.
