Prudie Day

How's everyone?  Happy almost end of the week!

Re: Prudie Day

  • I'm getting my stitches out later today, thankfully (I hate wound care).  Otherwise fairly SSDD.
  • I'm hitting a new level of burnout at work. They've given me a 30% increase in patients seen daily and I'm furious and exhausted.

Otherwise, SSDD. Glad I took tomorrow off because I need it. We might try to go out this weekend. I hope it's fun. I've been in a very not fun mood.

Glad to hear the stitches are coming out!

  • Prudie is a bit of a bonanza since I've been MIA the last couple of weeks.  LOL  Enjoy!!  ;)
  • @ei34, Congrats on getting the stitches out.  I've only had stitches once for an injury on my calf.  The stitches were what caused pain and discomfort until they were taken out, not the injury.

@CharmedPam, glad you found a ride to the city.

@Casadena, That should be such an amazing trip!  I hope you all have a great time.  Disney World is already exciting for kids.  But then also their first plane ride!  Very cool.

I got some bad news at work.  I'd heard rumors about a big project that is starting next year and that it would be back to doing it "in house".  It made me start to second guess if I should be looking for another job in Cincinnati.  Because back to my old refrain.  If there is a ton of steel work and I'm the only one that can competently do it, then surely they will let me WFH when I move.

But I got confirmation today that the fabricating for this project...and probably any large projects going forward...is going to be done by a third party (sigh).    That's a 90-95% reduction of the steel work I do for projects like that.  Though I would do everything I usually do for smaller projects.

As soon as I wrap up what's left on the only large project that is remaining, I'm going to hit up my company's procurement department and the client's procurement department.  To offer up my help, now that I have more time available.  Emphasis on CLIENT.  A lot of their office employees WFH and I know it's possible to work in any state.

I haven't worked much for him, but the client's Procurement manager for the site I support seems impressed by me.  It would be pretty sweet if they were looking to hire a direct person anyway, that's outside of my employer's contract with them.  But I know it can get touchy to poach your contractor's employees or vice versa, so I'm not sure how to approach that.

Something to think about and research.  I did go to the client's job board and found one remote position whose qualifications are a good, but not a great, match for my skills/experience.  Supports a totally different site and wouldn't have anything to do with my employer.  But then I wouldn't professionally know anyone either to give me a nod.  Hopefully just name dropping their own company on my resume would get me a second look, lol.

  • @mrsconn23, good luck with your job search!  I'm glad the outplacement coach was able to help you.  Congrats to the kiddo!  Congrats to the BIL/SIL's family!

Good stuff going on in the @mrsconn23 house.

  • Oh no @short+sassy! I know one of your high points of moving was making NOLA money in Ohio, where some things are cheaper.
@Casadena it’s gonna be great. A good memory I have is my sister taking my little little nieces on their first trip to see us in a plane.  My niece had one of those kids suitcases with hello kitty on it (you know the one where it holds two items lol).  Well, she was super excited to tote that around the airport - until she wasn’t.  My fave picture of the trip is of daddy toting the hello kitty luggage while holding her hand in the airport.

  • Haha that sounds adorable @CharmedPam. We're checking our suitcases but the boys both have thos wraparound neck pillows that they are obsessed with and i'm sure will not take off the whole time :)

Fortunately, this part isn't true.  There are more and better paying jobs in Cincy.  Louisiana is in the bottom 5 for average salaries, but not the worst.  That would be our neighbor, MS.  There's an old joke around here, "Thank goodness for Mississippi and West Virginia so we don't ALWAYS rank last for things."

It's just it would be so much nicer to stay in the job I'm comfortable in, especially since that means it would be 100% remote.  Then venture out into the world of job hunting that I haven't done in 10+ years.  My H and I could hang for a good while in Cincy if neither one of us had a job.  But I don't like that kind of uncertainty.  I want a soft place to land.

My work's attitude has always been a "tentative maybe" about me being able to WFH when I move.  I feel like this is even less likely now (sigh).  Ugh, I need to start looking more seriously in Cincy for work or 100% remote opportunities.  But it's so hateful and I feel like I'm automatically at a disadvantage, since I don't live there yet.  For the right job offer, I could be there in 2-3 weeks and leave my H behind to pack and work with our realtor.  But I can't interview in person, unless they fly me out.  Possible but overall, they aren't that "level" kind of jobs.
