Fri-yay

Finally!  Wishing everyone a weekend filled with some joyful moments and opportunities to de-stress.  Vibes your way @VarunaTT I know your friend will be on your mind

Re: Fri-yay

  • Pretty busy over here (just nonstop kid stuff) but all nice things, just a lot.  Some days I have more patience to deal with exH's mental health ish, today is not one of those days.  Oh well, at least it's Friday.
  • It's my half day and I cannot wait for the day to be over!  I didn't get much sleep this week, especially the last two nights.  Nothing sounds better than an afternoon nap, lol.  I hope you all have great plans for the weekend.

It's Swifty time in New Orleans.  She's playing at the Superdome Fri.-Sun. night.  I will be avoiding the downtown/French Quarter areas like the plague, lol.  But alas, my work route takes me right by the Superdome.  I thought I would be safe from the impeding craziness this early in the morning but apparently not, lol.  There was markedly increased traffic in that area.  All the more reason I can't work late today like I sometimes do.  The gauntlet home is only going to get worse the later in the day it is.

I really do try to keep my vents to a minimum about the guy I've been training, because there is a new and shocking "how do you not know how to do this" almost every time I am in the office.  But sometimes a vent needs to burst out and this is a non-work related one.

OMG, he makes SO MUCH noise and some days are worse than others.  I've probably worked near a few hundred people in my lifetime and nobody else holds a candle to him.  He audibly sighs.  He makes an "aahhh" sound every time he yawns.  There are some mornings where he is either sighing or yawning very 10-15 minutes.  He usually chews ice all day and I suspect he doesn't close his mouth while he does it because of how loud the constant crunching is.  I think he has some hearing loss and maybe doesn't realize how loudly he does the smallest things.

About two weeks ago, he added a new sound to his repertoire.  Sucking and chewing on lollipops.  Usually he has one in the afternoon.  But not today.  It's 7:50 am and he is having a lollipop for breakfast.  I'm still half asleep, haven't even had my coffee yet.  He comes into the office and within 10 minutes of arriving, I hear a constant slurping about as loudly as a person can do it with an occasional crunch.

I ask myself the existential question, "Is this what the descent into madness feels like?"

  • That would drive me nuts @short+sassy I've been so fortunate that the last two jobs I've had I've had my own office. I would lose my mind otherwise.

I hope things improve soon @ei34 I know it's exhausting.

    *Hugs* @varunaTT

No real plans this weekend. I've just got to survive today lol. H has a midterm tomorrow and Monday so regardless we probably can't get too wild even if we wanted to.

  • Yay for Friday! I'm exhausted too, but no rest for the weary. I've been bolting at 5:00 the last couple of days because of all the stuff we've had going on, so I probably need to stay a little late tonight to get caught up. Then as soon as I log off I've got to pack and get things done around the house. We have to be out of here at 6 tomorrow for our early ass flight.

My in laws are allergic to planning, so I have no idea what we're going to do all weekend. You'd think that would leave me some down time to relax, but it probably means sitting on my MIL's couch. At least we're staying in a hotel with a pool. I might tell H to just come find me at the pool once they come up with a plan.

In other news, our coffee maker bit the dust yesterday. That's probably why I'm such a cranky pants today.
  • @MyNameIsNot I'm a big fan of the backup French Press and keeping a grinder in the house.   I feel like the French Press is more effort but makes a delicious cup and you can get small ones for cheap.

I've had middle of the night insomnia which is just great.   I need to address that with my doctor because it's not needing the calm app.  I fall asleep like it's my job.  But staying asleep is awful and it's happened two times this week.  As much as I love being the first in the family to complete the daily Wordle I'd like to be rested before it catches up with me.

Weather shifted today and it's back to normal autumn.  I have meetings today and then tonight I need to get the kids fed fast with both kids having things.  Chiquita sings the national anthem at the HS homecoming game and Chiquito has a 7 PM soccer game.  I feel for him needing to play in shorts and it's gonna be COLD.

Tomorrow is the HC dance and Sunday is another soccer game.  I may make a pot of pasta e ceci because cold weather = a desire for warm comfort food and the recipe I have just makes me want to dive into the pot of ditalini like Scrooge McDuck did into his coins at the beginning of Duck Tales.

@levioosa, it's another unexpected "plus" for WFH.  I've developed a pretty high tolerance for background noise because I've often worked in cube environments.  At a previous job I had an office, but my office was also where the main printer was kept for about 15 people, lol.  But even that wasn't as annoying as this guy.  Who was on lollipop #2 by 10am.  It's not as much the noises themselves as it is the frequency.

@MyNameIsNot, So nice you all are staying in a hotel instead of with your in-laws.  I would not be sad to be in Miami right now, even if all I did was lounge by a pool.  I like your plan, "Just tell me when to be ready and what we are doing.  I'll be at the pool, in the meantime."

Edited to add:  @banana468, we keep a French press as part of our "hurricane preparedness", lol.  If we lose power, our gas stove still works to heat water.

  • Thanks ladies, I really appreciate it.  She definitely is on my mind.  I'm still feeling the internal pressure to go to the funeral, but I know I've made the best decision for myself by not going.

I must clean this weekend.  Between getting so sick with covid and then L's death, my home is actually gross and at a rather "can no longer be ignored" point.  Also getting my brows and lashes done.  I wish I was getting a haircut too, but I couldn't get in at a workable time until the 1st.

I splurged and signed up on Patreon to support my favorite F1 podcast.  I've been listening to them since almost their beginning and want to support them, so I'm their top tier "daddy" of the pod (it's coming out of my allowance).  They're doing a livestream of quali on on their Discord channel, which I'm looking forward to.  The hosts make me laugh multiple times every single episode.  Then the race on Sunday.  After the race, I'm watching a movie (Poor Things) with a friend online.

I also love my French press.  I shattered my last one and bought a replacement that I'm not happy with (it's much smaller and I didn't realize it).  I'm going to keep the smaller one as a tea press and get a larger one for coffee.  It doesn't really take that much longer that a drip machine and I think the 2 cups I get from it is so satisfying that I drink less too.  I am too lazy for the grinder though.  I do prefer using fresh beans/grinder, but I cannot adult enough for that in the morning.
  • @VarunaTT, my H used to buy whole beans and grind them up, but decided not to bother anymore when his grinder broke. He jokes because he is originally from the Pacific Northwest, coffee is his religion.

I found out earlier this week that once coffee beans are ground, they go bad in a few days.  Coffee manufacturers add something (forget what) to ground coffee so it stays good longer.  But us mere mortals need to limit how much we grind ahead of time.

Of all the weird places I learned this, it was on a thread about what are the most and least helpful things to donate to food pantries.  A person who runs one said a local coffee company had donated a bunch of whole bean bags for a flavor they were discontinuing.  Their pantry supports about 50 families.  They asked those folks, but none of them had coffee grinders.  Someone in the thread mentioned maybe a volunteer could have ground some of the coffee up.  That's when it came up that coffee gets really bad tasting quickly when it's freshy ground.

I also gathered interesting info I never thought of.  Sealed spices, seasonings, and sauces.  I had a tenant awhile back leave a bunch of that kind of stuff.  I took a good bit of it that I might use someday.  But with my semi-upcoming move, I need to thin the herd.  I know I have at least a few that are still sealed.

I also have a bunch of individually sealed granola bars and almond peanut butter bar things that I will never get through.  Costco bulk purchases because I am in the mood once in awhile for a granola bars.  I thought I would like the almond peanut butter things, but no.  I've eaten a few of them, they're okay but way too sweet for me. If they're still in date, I will donate those also.  Food pantries don't provide things like that, but I learned they are very popular when donated.

  • I have a Cuisinart grind n brew that we got as a wedding gift 17 years ago.  The brewing still works but there's a hole in the grind basket and you can't buy a replacement basket.  So now I use the burr grinder I have to grind beans no more than a few days in advance to make my coffee.  The bonus is that DH is buying the big bags of beans at Costco.  I also use the grinder to make the coarse grind for the cold brew I make in summer but once my space heater is turned on, I want warm caffeine.
  • I am a Philistine. I appreciate good coffee....but I'm also wayyyyy too lazy and my hack has been to use instant. Don't come for me.
