Thank You Speech FIL Paying for Wedding

Hi folks,

My fiancé and I are getting married in June, and my fiancé’s father is very generously paying for the wedding.

We are giving a quick thank you speech when we get back from pictures/transition from cocktail hour to reception. We are thanking everyone for coming, the wedding party, and our parents. I was going to throw in a quick line thanking my FFIL for hosting. Is this appropriate?

Something like: “Thank you for generously offering to host our wedding. It took what would have been a stressful and overwhelming planning process, and turned it into a fun and exciting project.”

  • I agree with @MyNameIsNot that I wouldn't bring up the finances of the wedding in a speech at the reception or any other wedding-related event. A more general thank-you addressed to all the parents would be more appropriate during the wedding reception, and then you can write a letter, give a gift, or otherwise make an appropriate gesture that specifically thanks your father-in-law for his financial assistance after the wedding.
