Happy Halloween

Wishing everyone a day with no tricks but plenty of treats!

Re: Happy Halloween

  • One of the kids was sick yesterday so I was out too, but Halloween miracle he's feeling better today.
Fingers crossed exH doesn't try to mess up trick or treating later.  Just trying to make it through a work day in a high school filled with excited teens in costumes running on sugar.  ToT-ing with friends starting around 4 and it'll be a pumpkin-shaped pizza with my autumn cream sauce afterwards.
  • My dudes are tired today (G didn't fall asleep til almost 10 last night). so i have a feeling ToT will be short-lived which is fine by me. Starting around 5 and probably just going up and down our street before they ask to go home. Supposed to go to their Halloween parade at school at 10:30 if the weather cooperates, then a sushi lunch with a supplier, then leaving early to get home for ToT! So should feel like a short day.

Do you all with kiddos limit candy on Halloween? Ours are little still, so thinking like 3 small things tonight and one with after school snack for as long as they are remembering it. Just curious what everyone else does.

Happy Halloween! Happy Diwali also if anyone celebrates!

I'm trying to get as much accomplished as I can to wrap up the work day on the early side. I really need to blow off the driveway before ToT starts. Our driveway is fairly steep and I try to do candy by the mailbox anyway, but just in case. We have a lot of little acorn type things that can be treacherous in the dark. Luckily they don't really start until 6ish around here, so it should be ok.

    @charlotte989875 - Isn't your marathon this weekend?
  • Happy Halloween everyone! It’s raining here but supposedly stopping for TOT’ing? I’m heading over to my brothers now to hang out with the kids and do some fun stuff before heading out.  It’s my favorite holiday so I hope this rain doesn’t rain on my day! It’s better than last years snow.
Hope your kids get a 2nd wind @Casadena

  • Happy Halloween everyone! I wore a pumpkin shirt for the start of the day and I’m going to Halloween hard the rest of the day lol.

Yesterday was okay. I had the needed conversation with my manager and it seemed to go well. Fingers crossed it continues to go well.

Otherwise SSDD. We are supposed to go to the in laws today for a few hours. I’m trying to decide what to have for dinner. Oh also there’s a new restaurant opening nearby and I went and drove past it and now I’m excited because it looks nice.

  • Happy Halloween!  Not anticipating any kiddos coming to the door as we usually don't get any.  But I do have 1 bag of candy, just in case!

Work has been crazy as we continue to work on the big project that launches Jan 2025.

We've had lot's of visitors to our ground feeders this week after dark.  Deer, racoon & an opossum!  The cat is not a fan.  Even though they are at the end of the deck, she still goes on high alert and sticks close to us.  For rabbits, squirrels and chipmunks, she's right up next to sliding door lol.

Weather has been crazy this week.  We set record highs early in the week and yesterday a front moved in with much-needed rain.  Temps dropped and the wind picked up today.  It'll be dry for Trick or Treating but windy and cold (35 degrees!)

We are meeting friends for lunch on Saturday and looking forward to that.  Sunday is church and late football games.  Hoping to spend time crafting before the games.

  • Doctor’s appointment went pretty well. I have orders for an Ultrasound and CT so I’m really glad that’s moving forward. COVID can go die in a fire.

  • I'm in a mood.  I'm pretty sure I'm going to be in a mood for another week.  I'm going to indulge in some shopping therapy soon and grab a building kit I've wanted for awhile to take my mind off things.

Not really any news.  My Thanksgiving decorations are here.  I'm going to kind of miss my Halloween lights though, I really like them.

You can just leave them up :) There's no holiday police coming.
  •@MyNameIsNot I have new lights to put in their place.  I did consider just putting up ALL the lights, but I don't think I'd actually like that.  And I'm excited for the next lights.
  • @Casadena, no kids in my household.  But we did buy a box of 30 normal sized candy bars from Costco because it was on sale for $20.  Can I limit candy bar consumption for my H, lol?

But to actually answer your question, this is what my parents did when I was growing up.  My sister and I were allowed to have a particular number of candies on Halloween night.  I think it was 5, but don't remember the specific number.  After that, we were allowed to have one piece of candy after dinner.

This was the rest of the tradition.  I've never had too much of a sweet tooth.  I liked some candy, but didn't always feel like it.  By the time it was December, my sister's Halloween bag was long gone and I still had about half of mine.  My mom would ask if I would let my sister have some of it.  I'd go through what was left, take out my faves, and it was open season on the rest.  My mom would usually take the opportunity to purloin some for herself, lol.

@levioosa, I'm glad you finally had a doctor's appointment go well.  Hopefully there will be some good answers from the tests.

There was a thread on my local subreddit about mysterious illnesses going on.  My H had a weird experience about a week ago where he was suddenly so sick for one day and not great for a second day but mostly fine after that.  Mainly gastro-intestinal issues.  Apparently that is one of the symptoms for the newest version of COVID.  Someone posted a link to that waste water website.  COVID is at medium levels.  Oh but wait, another choice.  Norovirus is currently high.  I'm feeling fine so far, crossing fingers.

My treats for today.  There was a Taylor Swift concert this past weekend.  One of the security guards at my office building gave me a Swifty bracelet that I assume someone had given him.

After lunch, the office manager and one of her cohorts came around with a cart.  8 containers with different goodies.  Three of the choices weren't even sugary, though I did succumb to a 2-pack of Oreos to go with my cheese balls.

@charlotte989875 I hope baby J feels better soon and good luck!
@levioosa glad that you finally had a helpful doctor’s visit
@Casadena when they were little my kids were content with a couple of pieces per day for a week or so…they didn’t start questioning where all their candy was until they were 6/7.  Now that they’re a bit older I let them select a nut-free piece to pack in their lunch boxes each day as their lunchtime treat, and they can also have a couple more when they get home from school each day.
The gravy train does eventually come to an end- they make a “kids table” dessert for Thanksgiving, which is called Candy Cookie Bars. Pretty much exactly what it sounds like- I help them make choc chip cookies but instead of dropping the batter by Tbsp’s onto a baking sheet I spread it in a 9x13 dish. They add as much chocolate candy as they like (snickers, Reese’s, Kit Kats and m&m’s are the main faves).  They get baked, cut into squares and they and their cousins go wild for them.  I bring their remaining candy to my faculty room where it lasts maybe a day, but they don’t miss it since December is a pretty treat-filled month.

A couple families on our street are Hindu and have Diwali lights up..,the kids were like “oooh Christmas lights let’s put ours up now too!” I explained the different holiday and that we’d be waiting another month for that.
