Monday Monday

I’m not working in the sense that I have no meetings but I have a f ton of work to do before tomorrow so I’m waiting for my mom to get here to watch baby J so I can work on my paid holiday. H is actually working today and M has school.

It’s fall weather here and im a sucker for dressing the kids up like bears.

Re: Monday Monday

  • It's a normal work day for us; no holiday. I did present a little bit at our department townhall this morning, so I'm glad to have that done. There's nothing like presenting at 8 am on Monday morning to kick start your week.

Nothing much else going on here. It's drizzly and cooler, so I finally got to make soup yesterday. I think I'm going to try to make some butternut squash or something soup next week.

@mrsconn23, I’m so happy everything is working out with (in my Moira voice) bebe and kiddo.
Happy Vday to all, work day or not!

This weekend was a great girls weekend.  We had an amazing air b&b, great company and conversation, shopping & events. It got my mind off of my recent health issues and then on Friday we had some work news that shooketh the company, so it was MUCHILY needed.

At this point with the news over the last week I'm starting to investigate more into what it would take if there's ever a way for a Democratic candidate to sway voters.  I never voted for Trump and what I thought would sway voters after 2020 obviously didn't.  So now I'm hoping that there's a revamping of a platform to figure out what is needed to win over voters to teh other side.
I've been thinking about this as well.  Like, a lot.

People LIKE democratic policies, that's clear from the ballot initiatives that passed in this election all over the place (except FL, which...JFC, that state). So how does the messaging get lost?  Part of it is the media ecosystem and how badly dis/misinformation is spread and quickly.  They have to change to the current environment and find the 'hook' (be it a person, slogan, platform, etc.).  I'm not a political scientist, so maybe I sound like a moron...but clearly they have to change something or many things to grab people again.

They can't rely on dysfunction on the other side to make them look 'better'.  It doesn't fucking work.

Agreed.  And the major thing that I think needed to be louder was an acknowledgement that a Harris Presidency WOULD be different economically and how.

After watching A LOT of fall baseball, I saw the ad circulating on Kamala and trans surgeries.  It was total BS but I never saw a rebuttal.

The time is now to stop saying she ran a great campaign so it must be the idiot AH voters.  That doesn't move the needle.  I legitimately thought that hearing tons of people who worked FOR him and with him who were registered Republicans that said he's not fit for office was something but it wasn't enough.  So it's time to listen, dig deeper and come up with a better plan because this was insufficient.
  • I think I'm finally coming out of the haze and funk I was in last week. I've been deep cleaning as I'm decorating some areas of the house for Christmas and playing Christmas music. That usually gets me out of my funks. I want to get involved in something in my area that will push the Democratic party along in the midterm elections. @mrsconn23 let me know if you find a good place to volunteer. I've never been active but want to change that. I've always voted but that is about it. Of course, we've never had the crazy we had this election.

My book club has split off a smaller (9/12) group of us that discuss politics and support one another. When we are all together we can't discuss politics. I'm hosting this Thursday night, and I've been a little worried about making sure things don't go nuts. Usually small comments can be made without someone going off the rails, but I don't think I can even tolerate small comments without losing my shit.
  • Baby bear suits are just the best. Weekend was mostly good. Boys did great at swim lessons, then we did Christmas decorated at the request of G. He put most of the stuff on the tree and hung up all the stockings. Yesterday G had a playdate at our house while H took N to a playplace, we met up for lunch and then just hung out the rest of the day.

Our cleaning person came today again and i don't know if i'm super picky/particular or she's just not great, but I don't really feel like what she does is worth $180+ tip per session. Idk.

Over the years when I had cleaning people, I found that after awhile they didn't do as good a job as when they first started. Even if I told them to pay extra attention to XYZ it didn't get better. That's a lot of money to pay and not be satisfied.
  • @VarunaTT, A future landlord generally isn't going to consider the rental history you had while living with a relative.  But it can't hurt to have bank statements showing a regular amount of money was leaving every month on the 1st, as if you were paying rent.  It could even just be going to a savings account.

But an important rental reference is from the place you have been/currently renting from, especially since it has been for a long time.  It won't matter too much if it's a previous place and it has been a few years since you lived there.  Most rental property owners would rather speak to a previous landlord instead of a current landlord.  A previous landlord will give you the unvarnished truth, whereas a current landlord might be trying to get rid of a tenant and make them sound more glowing than they are.

I know your complex is or was being sold.  If it hasn't been sold yet when you move, ask for the best person/contact info for future landlord references.  I don't know what tenant records are kept for the new company when a complex is sold, so they may have no record of you.  But the previous company should.

Work has been extra stressful for me the last few days.  Just when I think I have clamored out of everything urgent and can start working on medium important things, I'm pushed back down again.  I provide our detailer with drawing numbers to use for new steel packages.  Apparently, they went rogue months ago on two sub-projects and started using different numbers than the ones I provided.  I have been trying to untangle the mess since Thursday and there is no end in sight.

On a positive note, I had a telehealth appointment after work and was prescribed a non-stimulant ADHD medication.  I hope they give me some help, but about 40% of people don't find them to be an improvement so that is not a good sign.  Unless this proves to be fantastic and I don't feel I need anything else, I'll be looking to get a prescription next year for a more effective stimulant medication.  But that's a controlled substance, which makes it a PITA, expensive process.

  • Hii Everyone I am sanskar. i want the suggestion that which ring is best for my wedding day. and till now i selected the caratbee
  • @short+sassy Thanks for that information.  The complex did sell, but the old management company still exists.  My understanding is that the owner is just downsizing b/c of age and his daughter doesn't want to take over the business.  So I still have his information.  Maybe he'd be willing to write me a referral, JIC, so I can have something on paper for the future.

Good tenants make life SO much easier!  He probably wouldn't mind writing you a reference letter.  It's not a typical request from a departing or previous tenant, but not that unusual either.

It's a good idea to ask for one.  Because time can sometimes bring trouble in getting in touch with someone.  His number/e-mail changes or he passes away.

It does sound like a nice solution for both yourself and your mother.  One household is a lot cheaper than two, especially since she owns the house.  A good opportunity for you to save money for your future, while also allowing her SSI checks to go further.  She will probably increasingly need help with things as she gets older and I know it will give you peace of mind to be there with her.

  • I keep reminding myself its the right choice.  One of my friends called it, "Logical choice for an uncertain future".  It'll protect both of us, our assets, her mental and physical health, and her savings. I'm trying to let go of the "moving back home" mentality, b/c I'm not moving back home because I can't make it out here...I'm moving back home for very different reasons.

She is truly trying to make it easy for me.  She's talking about screening in the back porch/deck so that Harley can go out there, which Harley will adore.  Harley will also have so much more stimulation with more windows and wildlife to look at.  (Mom doesn't dislike cats, she has the same allergies I did, so she's concerned.  I know what to do to keep the allergens down, we'll have a house air purifier, and the entire house is hardwood, so all the things we can do, we're doing).  We're also already talking about how to arrange the living space for both of us to have privacy when needed.
  • @VarunaTT Maybe you could look into one of those robot vacuum/mops to run when you both are out of the house to help cut down on the work of sweeping/mopping? SIL has one and I'm so jealous of it. Unfortunately we (*cough* H) have way too much shit in the way to have one otherwise I'd buy one in a heart beat.

  • It funny you mention that because Walmart had early access Black Friday sales and I was going to buy one.  They were out by the time I got back to my computer to buy one.  I think it'd be helpful for her generally (b/c I know where my OCD comes from genetically, it's her, and the "clean" is a trigger for her), and help with Harley's hair just sitting about too.  So, it is on the list.
  • We have one that just vacuums and sweeps (no mop/water).  I like that it keeps up with the crumbs and cat hair.  The cat doesn't seem bothered by it now.

  • We have one and it's really great for the light dust/hair crumbs that accumulate. We got a no frills, cheaper model roomba on prime day or black friday a couple years ago. Doesn't replace a good upright vacuum but cuts down on the usage for sure. Would recommend!
