Threatening Tuesday

Figured I'd go w/ the alliterative acronym that describes how we feel. How's it going for you today?

Re: Threatening Tuesday

  • I forgot to mention Friday night DH did a great job talking down Chiquita who I heard crying through the floor freaking out about her health.  She's fine but the throws of adolescence and hormonal upheaval in a kid who has yet to menstruate coupled with the week were...a lot.

DH is still not feeling great and we just don't know why.  He had the day off but felt lousy and I worked so we pretty much stayed in our own corners.  We also slept SO BADLY the night before so I was not sad at all to be in bed before 10 and got some solid sleep.

  • We're in a funk here today because of H's family junk. It's really just H's toxic sister, but of course everyone else is upset and hurt because of her antics.

Nothing much else going on. Friendsgiving is this weekend and I'm thinking about what to bring as a dessert. Probably a pecan pie, but I'd like to do something a little different.
  • I'm tired and crabby and a little ragey - my period surprised me a bit early and i feel like i've been turning into an entirely different person during the few days prior and during. And the HEADACHES - holy crap. If anyone has recommendations for supplements or anything that could help, I'm all ears.

Work is busy - i have 2 separate presentations on Thursday and lot to do before then. Parents are visiting this weekend and I'm so excited. My MIL is having surgery today so i'll put some food or something together for her this week to drop off.
  • @banana468, poor Chiquita!  Kids shouldn't have to worry about their health like that, but sometimes medical conditions come way too soon.  I'm glad your DH was able to help her.  I hope he starts feeling better.

Ugh, I got a work e-mail this morning from the project coordinator (PC) that set me off.  She asked why a particular package hasn't been sent out yet.  I couldn't think of a nice way to say, "Because I'm busy."  Though that was an improvement over my original thought, which had some 4-letter words.  So instead of replying back, I took the time to get the package out.  I was going to send it today anyway, just had other things I was planning to do first.

This particular package has been waiting for financial approval for 3 months.  I e-mailed the steel manager (SM) about it on Friday and PC was cc'ed on it.  By the time he approved it, the soonest I could have done it was yesterday.  So don't be bugging me about how long this package took to go out.

I should make a lot of progress today and fight my way back to equilibrium or close to it.

  • Healing vibes chiquita's way @banana468 and ughh the ragey-ness leading up and headaches during surfaced in my mid/late 30s and are awful @Casadena, vibes your way.

The long weekend was nice overall, especially the brunch with friends, back to reality today.  There's a touch of Thanksgiving drama between one sister, my brother and sort of mom that I'm currently staying out of.

ExH's mental health is terrible and although I've learned to defend myself (and the kids) from it, some days it annoys me more than others.  DS had a playdate yesterday with a nice boy whose mom I know well enough and get a good vibe from.  ExH got wind of that and totally flipped.  "Why aren't you there?!" "He's only 9 he shouldn't be at someone's house alone" "Go get him right now or I'm calling the cops on you for endangering DS" "You have to learn to pull your head out of your 90s/white girl/suburbia bubble and start watching the news, bad things are happening every day".  Etc etc.  I could go on, since he went on for over an hour.  He's been paralyzed with fear since oldest was born that something was going to happen to one of the kids, but they have to live their lives and do normal kid things like have playdates and ride their bikes and have piano/crochet lessons (other things he's flipped out over in the last week).  I'm exhausted and finally shut him up by reminding him that even if he saw the kids when he was supposed to (he doesn't) and paid child support (he doesn't), I still have full legal custody and make decisions about things like playdates and after school activities.  I just can't believe I have to deal with him, especially while I do all the work of parenting. I'd rather be a widow.
  • @ei34, I'm sorry to hear how especially awful your ex was being.  Especially for someone who has chosen not to take any responsibility for them, either with his time or money.

  • Not too much going on today.  Working, got my groceries delivered, plus Walmart sent a huge bag of goodies to try and get me to buy more stuff.  They also sent some of the Earth Breeze, which I have been wanting to try, but it's Fresh Scent.  The scent is lingering and giving me a headache.  IDK why samples with scent exist in the wild.  Especially since there IS a fragrance free version.  Blech.

    Otherwise, SSDD.
  • Ugh, @ei34, I'm sorry your ex is such a twatwaffle.
  • All the hugs and vibes to you @ei34. I'm so impressed with your ability to be calm.
  • *Hugs* @ei34. I'm so sorry ex-H is such an enormous douchecanoe. I know it has to be exhausting and the fact that it's affecting the kids too must be infuriating.

And I'm so sorry to hear about Chiquita @banana468. Sending you guys hugs and good vibes. I know DH hasn't been feeling well either.

@casadena I'm so sorry to hear about the headaches. Varuna suggested ChasteTree a few years ago and it really did help make a difference for my moods. I don't know about headaches though. Evening Primrose might help with that. When my periods were more regular, I was always somehow shocked when I got a migraine for 1-3 days prior. Come on, this happens every month, how are you still surprised by it? It was like I had amnesia every month. lol.

At work and exhausted today. Grandpa is in the ER for a blood transfusion because he's bleeding too much again. I'm just hoping we can get through Christmas with everyone there. My mom is also playing the martyr card with some stuff and I just don't have the energy for it. I have my ultrasound on Sunday and while I'm glad it's being done, I'm nervous for the results. I'm also a little stressed because it's open enrollment and I need to be very careful with the plan I choose for health care because way too much stuff is up in the air right now.

  • @ei34, I don’t know you as a person or even a parent but I applaud your decision to let your kids be kids. You’re not having them live on fear and those are great skills for them to grow up with.  You keep on keeping on!

Busy day for me. I did a walmart grocery pick up, which I’m getting soon. I’m lazy.  I’m probably going to eat frozen food for a bit until the cooking bug gets me again.
i may have stuck my foot in my mouth. Three of my friends and I bought tickets to a musical tonight, and when I went to remind them one said “oops I forgot about it. I’m out of town for travel”
so I asked the other friend not in that text group that we had a spare ticket and if her daughter wanted to go. She can’t but asked around. Someone friend #2 doesn’t like will take our spare! Ugh. Now I have to call friend #2 to let her know and her night will probably be spoiled. I should have left well enough alone!

  • To further what @levioosa said, I don't get headaches before my period, so IDK for sure.  Last time I looked at any research, what chasteberry does (and they don't know how) is reduce the progesterone hormone production so that you don't get hit so hard by symptoms.  The big improvements for me were mood, sore breasts (like I couldn't hug people for about 2 weeks out of the month) and shorter, more consistent periods.  So, IDK if it would help with a headache or not.

Thank you guys, I was actually coming in this morning to ask you both about supplements that I know you've mentioned working well for you before! I'm going to try some and see if it helps. Is there a specific brand you'd recommend?

I usually just bought off of Amazon.  It goes by the name "vitex" sometimes when purchasing.  I would just see what was available and then google it to make sure it wasn't full of fillers.  I usually bought Nature's Way, I think.

The other supplements I've been taking that I think have been helpful for overall health have been the complex vit. B and magnesium.  I had been taking those as part of my "quit drinking" regimen.  Then I started seeing research coming out that those two in specific combination are showing results for improving PMDD symptoms as well.  Magnesium is also supposed to be helpful with sleep and loads of other things (what I've read is that magnesium is basically the powerhouse of our cells and, as modern humans, we just don't get enough).  So those might be something to add just for improvement overall, though I'm not sure about headaches.

Pure Encapsulations and Thorne are good quality brands. A little pricier than some others though.

Technically Chaste Tree has really only been found to help with PMS symptoms, and the jury is still out on PMDD. But I personally found that it helped a lot and it quieted the SI I was having right before my period. And I didn't care if it's a placebo or not, if it helped, I'm using it.

My son is an MD/PhD neurology.  Although he turns his nose up regarding many supplements, he does advocate for a magnesium/Vitamin B2 (Riboflavin) regimen for headaches/migranes.
