Wedding Woes

Thursday

This would have been my dad's 77th birthday. What would have been my aunt's, his sister's, 81st birthday (she died in 2003) was two days ago. So this week feels intensely emotional, especially today.

Otherwise, I'm ok. Trying to figure out what I'm going to do with the rest of my life. I was in NYC last week and my friends and relatives there are suggesting I move back there, while my friends and cousin here in Houston want me to stay here.

So weird...

Re: Thursday

  • I’m sorry Jen. That’s a lot for a week.

Still tryimg to figure that out. It's much cheaper here and I wouldn't have to dismantle my apartment and then find a new one and go through moving if I stay here, but I do badly miss NYC and my friends and family there. So this question doesn't have an obvious answer.
  • @Jen4948, I'm sorry it's been an especially rough week for your grief.

This is some food for thought.  I moved from CA to New Orleans about 18 months after my dad had unexpectedly passed away.  I was unhappy about other things going on in my life also.  I'd also graduated from college about a year before I moved and was still fumbling around.  Trying to figure out how to transition from being a student my whole life to being a real adult.

The primary reason for my move was to get out of a VHCOL area.  I didn't expect this, but moving also did wonders for my mental health.  It was a fresh start in a new city for the new place I was in my life.

It's a hard decision to make and it sounds like you have strong pros/cons for both staying in Houston or moving back to NYC.  At least it's a choice you can take your time on and really think about where you will find the most contentment.

@Jen4948 I have a very good friend in NYC who just posted about 2 rent stabilized apartments in his area that are open.  I'm not quite sure where it is, but he lives in a neighborhood of brownstones and loves it.  He shares pictures on Halloween and it looks like soooo much fun.  I can reach out if you want.

ETA:  Big hugs.  Life is hard.
  • Thanks @VarunaTT! That would be really nice.
  • @jen4948, I sent you a PM.
