Prudie Day

How's everyone today?  It's (finally) raining here. Wishing everyone a nice day!

Re: Prudie Day

  • My Tues and Wed were really crazy this week so I'm happy to be on the other side of that.  I can't believe that we're a week away from Thanksgiving.
  • @ei34 I feel like November is just a big black hole of time, b/c someone said Thanksgiving is next week on a Zoom call and I was like, "Huh?"  I would've thought it was still 2 weeks away.

I just received an email this morning.  I told someone on October 30th, a process would take 45 business days.  They just emailed me and said 45 business days would've been November 7.  I can tell my patience is thin, b/c no.  The process started on October 30th, not on the date on your invoice and business days do not include weekends and holidays.  Does "business days" mean something different now in this day and age?  This week feels long.  I'm saving the email until later to respond professionally.

SSDD here.  I'm glad this weekend is a race weekend, even if all of the races are at ridiculous times (they're timing the Las Vegas races to European time.  I understand the why behind it, but it sucks for the American audience).  Not a lot going on, really.  I got my new nook.  It's called Alice's Evidence and is from Alice in Wonderland.  It has a LOT of small parts though.  I've already had to glue one part back together because I broke it with too much pressure.
  • @VarunaTT I *get* that Vegas is by definition a later place with more nightlife but I am chapped at the concept of setting sporting event times for the European audience when the event is NOT in Europe!  Last weekend the football games were AM games in the US and set to a PM EU time.   DH will get up early on a Sunday to watch some of the races that are happening out of the country so it just annoys me especially when there's a greater US audience now after the Drive to Survive series.
  • @VarunaTT, that date math is not computing at all, lol.

I'm extra tired today for some reason.  But it's at least been a pretty mellow day so far.

I need to do my Thanksgiving grocery shopping this weekend. I desperately need a break from my job and am really looking forward to that long weekend.

  • Did they think you said 4-5 business days? That's the only thing I can think of.

I'm continuing along with thinking it's later in the week than it is. I made a comment about it being finally Friday at the start of a 30 person call this morning, so that's about how my day is going.

I'm only off Th-Fri next week, but basically the entire rest of my company is off next week, so I'm looking at the whole week as a break as well.

I have questioned this as well, b/c Miami and Austin don't do this, but they're also not at night (even though Miami is also a street circuit).  But the European audience is still much larger than the US, so I make myself deal with it.  At this point, Vegas and Japan are both races I tend to watch later, b/c I'm not dealing with live times on them.  I wonder if it's better or worse for the teams since it would probably keep them on the same sleep/wake schedule.  Last year they had a lot of team members getting sick b/c of so many back and forths across time zones.

I just told my bosses that I loved working that weird in-between week of Christmas and NYE, b/c they all take it off, so I'm basically being paid to just be here.  Especially now with WFH, I'm looking forward to it.  :
  • I am gloriously off today and super glad. I didn’t sleep very well. For some reason Aurora didn’t sleep with me and didn’t come when I called her which was super unusual. She spent all night under the bed and only reluctantly came out this morning. That is not normal for her at all. I hope she’s okay. Why are cats like this.

Last night was okay. Not really at all how I pictured it. Of course the one day I’m rushing to get somewhere the traffic on the freeway is horrifically way worse than usual. It took me thirty minutes to go less than half a mile and almost two hours total to get home. So we didn’t get to go to dinner and consequently I was in kind of a funk. I don’t think I should plan things after work. I’m way too wound up. But I’m off today and I’m excited to spud for a minute.

I love working the week of thanksgiving and Christmas for the same reason @VarunaTT.  Why take PTO when I wouldn’t be working anyway?
Because I’m a virgo and, IMHO, like to be organized, I have decided to put the10 years of iPhone pictures I have into folders on my phone.  I did a lot yesterday and was just in a funk because of my past. Out & about having fun, thinking I was with my forever person - some pictures of former SIL (I haven’t even touched on the majority of those!)
is this easier to do on the iCloud? Can I drag and drop? I actually never logged in before
edit* I still have fun now.  But these were pictures of me having fun with a different era of friends

  • I'm sick.  I tested positive for Covid last night before bed.  So far, it's just like a bad cold but my energy and stamina are definitely taking a hit.  Since I work from home, I can work as I feel able.  I may take tomorrow afternoon off to rest but today and tomorrow morning are pretty busy.

I need to isolate until Sunday and then mask with other folks through Black Friday.  So I think we'll stay home for Thanksgiving as joining family for a large meal doesn't work well with a mask on your face.  We are hosting a birthday party for DH next Saturday and I think we'll be good for that.  DH feels fine now and I'm trying to stay in my office and the bedroom.  If I'm out in the "common" areas of the house, I'm masked.  We really don't need him to get sick.

On the bright side, this isolating might help get my last few projects done for my work team holiday get-together.

I'm sorry to hear about the funk you were in because of the photos.  I've had that happen to me before also.

The first year I was with my employer, my start date was after Thanksgiving.  I had almost no vacation time by the time Christmas/New Years rolled around and decided to work a full day on Christmas Eve.  After lunch, I was one of only 3 people on my floor.  By 3pm, I was the only one left.  It was glorious!  I didn't have any work left to do anyway so I played on the internet until it was 5.  I did that for a number of years, depending on what day of the week the Eve falls on.

It makes sense to take that time off if I am traveling.  But if I'm going to be in town anyway, I'd rather be working on slow days with little e-mail traffic.

  • I feel underwater at work. There’s so much going on and I’m keeping things running, but it’s tough. And I caught the daycare plague. Baby J is sick, it’s just been rough.

I’m taking Wednesday and Friday off next week. I just need a break. We get our Christmas tree Friday so I’m excited for that. We got Baby J one of those Step 2 trees too!
  • Nooo. I’m sorry @MNNEBride I hope you recover quickly!

  • Vibes to everyone that's sick!  DH and I have a concert tomorrow and another one Sunday and I'm hoping to stay well.  I was just vaccinated for the flu last week and Covid the week before and I'm hoping those help.  The kids don't have much going on this weekend and Monday is a half day before they have no school for the rest of the week so I'm hoping the time away helps the viral festering.

Tonight I have book club and a decent crowd coming.  I'm hoping they liked my pick!
  • @MNNEBride Man, I'm sorry to hear that.  If you end up on Paxlovid, let me know.  I still have the website around here for the copay card (up to $1400) and coat those suckers in honey before you take them.  I was told that it was a small percentage of people that got the horrible taste in their mouths (and any other bodily fluids, FYI, someone posted on reddit about getting frisky and being able to taste it), but at this point, everyone I know who took it, got that horrible taste.  Coating in honey doesn't make it all go away, but it helped a lot.
  • @banana468 - What was your pick? Do you recommend?
  • @MyNameIsNot it's Mary Jane.  It took me a while to find the central issues with the story but I ultimately liked it and definitely felt like the main character.  A decent coming of age story about a girl who has a strict family upbringing who nannies for a very liberal family in the 70s and what ensues.

Gaetz withdrew from being considered for Trump's AG.

He said, "I appreciate their thoughtful feedback - and the incredible support of so many. While the momentum was strong, it is clear that my confirmation was unfairly becoming a distraction to the critical work of the Trump/Vance Transition. There is no time to waste on a needlessly protracted Washington scuffle, thus I'll be withdrawing my name from consideration to serve as Attorney General. Trump's DOJ must be in place and ready on Day 1."

The article said "according to sources" the Trump Administration knew he couldn't get 50 votes in the Senate.

Sen. Cramer (R-ND) was relieved because there enough "hell no" in the conference that it looked like the path would be difficult and he doubted it would be possible.

  • I really don't understand how any report with a criminal investigation, that by all intents and purposes, is being held and the police haven't been notified.  Honestly, if I were in the House, I'd release the damn thing and be like, Impeach me, see if I care.  I got a predator off the streets.  It's unreal.

@MNNEBride I'm so sorry to hear that. Feel better soon!

@charlotte989875, I hope Baby is better soon too. Nobody needs stress right now!

And I couldn't be happier that Gaetz is out of consideration for AG!
  • I went shopping today with a friend. It is a tradition we do every year the week before Thanksgiving. I got the rest of my Christmas shopping done. Now I need to finish decorating and get stuff wrapped.

I was so excited about Gaetz. I just couldn't understand why the investigation couldn't be released, and why sex offenses aren't a no go for public service. I've done way to much head shaking since the election.
  • I am happy about Gaetz but it’s relatively short lived because what cesspool of a human are they going to nominate next? And not to be negative, but I’m worried that this all was a red herring and they're going to use this overly bad candidate to help confirm other candidates. It's a strategy the administration has used before quite successfully.

I'm seeing it's a former FL atty gen who also defended him for his 1st impeachment.  When she was AG she was given a donation and thus FL did not participate in a class action suit against Trump University.
  • @levioosa Heather Cox Richardson's letter today addresses this and in all likelihood, your worry is more than likely correct.

Also, I have not been watching news and I'm curating my social media feeds more carefully for myriad of reasons.  But yesterday I saw that CNN had dropped in primetime viewership for the ages of like...25-54?  To 61,000 views.  My mouth fell open, only 61,000?  That number hasn't been that low since they started, I bet.  And good.  I think this incessant 24 hour news cycle is part of what has brought us here, all of them, not just Fox.  I want good journalism back, reporters who aren't afraid of being jailed, and investigative journalism.  Even the rumor that WaPo held back an investigative report into the assassination attempt being staged has died again.

It's Pam Bondi.  From the main Yahoo article (that I couldn't link for some reason).

In 2013, she accepted a $25K campaign check from Trump while her staff was reviewing a case against Trump University.  Then a month later dropped the case against them.  Trump hosted a fundraiser for her campaign, 6 months after that.

In 2020, she stood with him and claimed there was widespread election fraud.

But it was interesting the FIRST point the article made was talking about her being a longtime prosecutor and spokesperson.  With the second half of the four paragraphs in this bullet, talking about when she was part of a case herself for stealing a Katrina victim's St. Bernard.

Here is info on the dog (Tank) story, from an article at the time:

It was more the Pinellas county animal shelter that originally effed up.  The owners were known and told by the Louisiana shelter they surrendered it to that they would have 6 months to pick the dog back up.  But the Pinellas shelter it went to ended up putting the dog up for adoption after 30 days and Bondi adopted it.

The family was ready to get their dog after two weeks, but it took them awhile to figure out where he went.  I think they had even contacted that specific shelter before Tank was adopted out, but no one returned their call and they had to keep trying.  Bondi was contacted 3-4 weeks after the adoption, but refused to return the dog.

The family sued her.  Then Bondi victim-blamed and accused them of neglect.  That she would have given the dog back right away if she thought it was going to a good home.  This went on for 16 months, but then the case was settled when Bondi returned the dog.

  • Is anyone else watching Cross?  It is SO GOOD.  I'm making myself watch an episode a night b/c it's really dark and I'm not in a good space for binge watching something like that.  Aldis Hodge is so good in this.  My crush on him continues unabated.
  • @VarunaTT I want to watch Cross. I read all but one of the books back in the day.
  • @ILoveBeachMusic I ended up watching the last 3 episodes all in a row.  It's been a long time since a show completely surprised me, but my mouth was literally hanging open and I gasped and stopped breathing at the end of episode 6.  I was like, I can't wait to watch episode 7 when it's right there.  Then, I was just in for the long haul.  It's really well done.  I feel like I've been sleeping on Isaiah Mustafa, who plays his BFF/partner as well, he was excellent too.
