Cold and knee are both a bit better, the cold probably on its way out, the knee who knows how it'll be tomorrow, but I see the orthopedist next week.
Cleaning and some kid stuff this weekend, and I'll try and rest my knee when I can.
  • I'm grateful it's warmed up enough I can feel brave enough to fill up my gas tank later.

Another weekend of kiddo activities and I think both are on board for helping me organize more on Sunday.   GS cookie season kicks off today so we're starting the push to get everyone buying.
  • I know this is laughable for you guys, but it's a high of 50 degrees on Sunday and I might freeze to death.

Day is going. Mom had to take Grandma to the doctor's today because they wrapped her leg incorrectly after the procedure and it was getting super super swollen. Grandpa's morning doctor appointment had to call emergency services and he's in the ER right now. I think they will have to admit him. I'm trying to figure out if I need to leave work or not.

    Otherwise, SSDD.

  • Oh @levioosa let there at least be some good weather in your future.  Here in New England cold weather is what we're supposed to get and I'm just used to climate change and a few years of mild winters.

Fingers x for your grandfather.  Good luck to him and your attending to his needs!
  • @banana468 the funny thing is, I don't mind the actual temp so much, I long the rest of the year for the times I can wear scarves and boots and cute fall outfits, but the swings from 77-85 degrees to 50 in a few days are killer. I have zero time to acclimate and I'm a pansy in the cold (and heat too, apparently there's no pleasing me). Thanks for the good vibes!

  • FWP - my health insurance dropped the gym coverage for retirees. I found out this morning as I scanned in at the Y. It would have been nice if they (the company from which H retired) had told me before it occurred. Now I have to figure out what I want to do - wait a year and rejoin when I'm on Medicare or pay the rather hefty monthly membership for 15 months.

We are going to Dayton again tomorrow. DS2 had 7 more houses he wants to look at. He lost the house earlier this week. Two others he was really interested in already have pending contracts. One is still accepting offers in case something happens to the first. The market is hot in his price range. Decent houses are only staying on the market a few days and there aren't many of them.  @short+sassy you might want to keep this in mind when you are planning your move. I told DS2 that he needs to see the houses as soon as he finds one that checks his boxes and not wait until the weekends.

H and I went to church and set up for Sunday communion because I won't be able to do it tomorrow. Sunday will be church and house stuff.

When we bought our house (summer 2017) we went and looked at it on a Wed or Thurs (it came on the market officially the day before whichever day we went to look at it). There was an open house planned for the Sunday.

The realtor told us that the sellers (adult kids selling their deceased parents’ house) already had at least two offers and the family was meeting to figure out which offer to accept on Sunday at like 6 pm - so if you saw the house at the open house, you better have gone and written up your offer from there or you weren’t being considered. It was insane.

ETA the neighborhood next to the kids’ school is always in demand because people want to walk to the school and be neighbors with all the other school/parish families. One of the school moms is a realtor and prides herself on selling these houses “pre-market.” They never even get listed.

From what I understand that happens in the St. Pious parish here in Indy. I have a friend who sold her house to a St. Pius family a year before they actually moved. They were building a house and the family told them "just let  us know when you want to move"! It's crazy.

DS2 really like the house that is still accepting offers. I think he is going to make an offer. The realtor was going to see if he could find out why the sellers feel the need to accept back up offers. It was the only house we saw yesterday that any of us liked. He would need to do some cosmetic work but nothing too heavy.

It was like this when we sold our old house in 2020. We went on the market on Thursday and had showings lined up all day Friday and Saturday, with open house scheduled Sunday. We had multiple offers on Friday and were under contract by Saturday afternoon. We took backup offers from the open house, but it was really if you waited until the weekend, you'd waited too long.

From what I'm hearing, it's mostly the same in a lot of neighborhoods here, especially in that entry level price range.
  • I hear that there are some towns in OH that are like that.  In the Columbus area I'm told that potential buyers should be arriving to showings up w/ contracts filled out if they are interested.

Yeah, Dayton is between Columbus and Cincy. The realtor said the market is heating up because of some proposed businesses coming in  in a few years. Hope that pans out but I happen to know that is dependent on a DoD contract/grant. DS1 has been working on an educational grant tied to that project.

Is he working through U Dayton? I went out there before DH and I were married because BIL graduated from their law school.  The area was very nice!
  • He works for a technology company in Dayton. He is in Beavercreek now which is a very nice area. Unfortunately he is probably not going to be able to buy a house there because of the prices. In the 8 years he has lived and worked in Dayton I have never been to U Dayton. I know lots of people who went there (both my sons went to a Catholic HS so there were lots of kids that went there). Oh I realize you were probably asking about DS1 - he works for a community college outside of Cleveland but the grant encompasses several other Ohio colleges.
