Topsy Turvy Thursday

I came on and saw the Hump Day post and got seriously confused about what day it was.

Nothing too much going on here.  I was supposed to go see a friend tonight, but she had to cancel.  That's fine; I socialized Sunday and Monday and my introversion is rearing it's ugly head and telling me that was enough for a bit.   I woke up at 6 this morning, which is always my goal.  I was both pleased and disgusted b/c I did a meditation before going to sleep last night.  I always sleep better and just feel better when I do daily meditation.  So, I'm just annoyed that this continues to be true and it's healthy for me to meditate because I'm rather continue to be a wretched goblin biting people's ankles.

Happy Friday Eve!

  • Enjoy your night in @VarunaTT!

super slippery this morning.  All we talked about the last two days was this ice storm.  I go to my car being SUPER careful knowing it, and walking slow and taking my time and BAM! still took a tumble.  My hip will be bruised because I bruise so easily.
My eyes are bothering me.  I used to be able to see things up close but it’s getting blurry now so I know my sight has changed. I have an exam on Tuesday for it, and also want to look into contacts.  But it’s costly, and I’m not 100% sure I would like them. Most people I talk to said they tried them but couldn’t use them after a while.  People with dry eye seems to be the #1 issue, which I don’t think I have. I have a big nose and glasses pinch/feel uncomfortable on me so I want to give them a shot.
Also, the Beyoncé grammy meme’s hitting the internet are great! Keep ‘em coming peeps. Lol

  • @CharmedPam I wore contacts almost exclusively before I did lasik. I found them to be much more comfortable than glasses. I also have issues with stuff touching my face, but also I just felt like having the correction right at my lens somehow felt better than looking through glass an inch away from my eye. Maybe because I didn't start wearing either until my 20s? IDK.

SSDD here. My ear still won't pop which is annoying the shit out of me. Work is super busy, but it's mostly stuff I know how to do. H's birthday is tomorrow, so I'm trying to plan the weekend in my non-existent down time.
  • @CharmedPam I wore soft contacts for years (like from 13 on.. I'm 47 now) before being forced to switch to hard contacts (eye disease).  They are really comfortable once you're used to them.  If you have dry eyes, just make sure to drink a lot of water and get the special eye drops for soft contacts.  I put in eyedrops every morning before my hard contacts and it makes a lot of difference.

As @MyNameIsNot, it's an easier vision too, b/c the correction is taking place at your eyeball, rather than an inch away.  You'll also have a lot more peripheral vision with that.  I can't use glasses anymore b/c they won't correct what's going on with my vision, but the only times I used them were at night when I wanted my contacts out but still wanted to watch TV or something.

Also, the cost is not as onerous as it used to be for soft lenses.

Ouch, sorry about the fall @CharmedPam!  Icy here too but no falls (yet).

Pretty ssdd.  No delayed opening here, it was bad but not awful.  (Some SDs called a delay but the kids' and mine did not.)   Burritos for dinner bc there are enough components of other things (rice, shredded chicken, veggies).  Glad it's almost the weekend.

Still sick. Probably the flu but at this point i'm not bothering getting tested. I know it's going around kids school and G's best friends tested positive this morning and half the teachers are gone this week. Likely cancelling our plans for Saturday night - it's a fundraiser for childhood illness and there will be a lot of parents of immunocompromised kids there. Not about to be patient zero especially with that population. Trying to nap in between meetings today.

I'm a little annoyed with my parents and their absolute inability to plan anything. I asked 6-7 weeks ago if they were available and interested to visit next weekend and babysit one night bc H and I have tickets for a comedy show in the city. They emphatically said yes no problem we'd love to come. Yesterday, they mentioned that actually they can't because my dad has a work thing all weekend. There is no way this work thing wasn't planned at least 6 months ago. I'm not mad that he has to work, just throws our plans out of whack at the last minute. Trying to see if IL's can switch babysitting weekends but they usually do something on Vday so i'm not optimistic they can help. FWP but annoying for sure.
@Casadena, can you or someone run to a Walgreens?  There are tests now that you can run that will test for Flu A/B and Covid.  I picked them up last month and DH was the first to use one and presto!  Covid.  I'm keeping them in the house and will re-stock when we're out.  We vaccinate for both but some years the vaccines just don't meet up w/ demand.  Now w/Chiquita as immuno suppressed I want to call the pedi if there's flu in the house for her or anyone to see if they'll prescribe prophylactic  Tamiflu for the rest of us.

I'm taking a vacation day tomorrow.  I can't bear the thought of coming anywhere near the downtown on the Friday before the Superbowl.  There will be street closures everywhere and I don't want to get stuck somewhere for who knows how long.

Plus apparently Trump has decided to be the first sitting president to attend the Superbowl.

There's a REASON you stupid, selfish AH that sitting presidents don't attend the game.  It amps up the security risk for everyone.  He didn't attend any of the games during his first term.  What a great time to make an exception /s.  When our city just had a vicious terrorist attack five weeks ago that left 17 people dead and dozens injured.

I hope he chokes on a crawfish.

Good idea! Totally forgot that there are home tests for flu now. I'll have H pick some up. I did take a COVID test that was negative because we had some in the house. But we'll grab a few of the flu ones as well!
  • Napped, worked a little, napped some more. Baby J still not feeling right and sleeping terribly. Ugh so rough right now!
  • DefConn and I are under the weather. I think it’s just colds, as we haven’t had any fevers or other major symptoms. I started feeling it Monday, which was a hellish trip back due to major delays and running to make the last flight in ATL or we would have ended up there for the night (our bags spent the night there). DefConn tried to tough it out at school, but I picked him up an hour in. We both just laid low and took naps for most of the day. Sending healing vibes to everyone feeling gross/sick rn. Effing winter. Lol
