Wedding Woes

Winter Wednesday

Well, we got between 6-10" depending on where you were.  Roads aren't plowed.  It's really cold, -1 with windchill of -17.  I'm glad I made the decision about canceling I did, I think it was the right one.

WFH is great, b/c I'm not out driving on unplowed roads and I'm not falling behind b/c of the weather.  Having said that, not having snow day kinda sucks, b/c I can't just curl up in bed and watch some TV in the warmer room.  My outside wall is cold to the touch and it's just radiating cold into the big room that has my office.  I finally put the heater down to 63 -- it'd been on since I got up trying to warm it up from 60 -- which is what I put it on last night for the same reason.

Otherwise, SSDD.  I'm starting a new build project.  It's a flower bouquet for Mother's Day.

Otherwise, SSDD.  Just trying to stay warm.

6-10? Aye aye aye. Gonna pass on that one.
Yesterday was a different turn of events. So Sunday night I told you I had a date, we met and he seems like a wonderful guy, no red flags (not that I’m the best at detecting those) but no spark. We’re still talking but he hasn’t asked me out on a second date yet.
Monday I scheduled another date for 6. At 4:00 I had a virtual consult at a laser place to do a skin tightening procedure.  They said they could get me in at 7, and this was the only day before my trip, meaning if it’s not this week I wait another, and it takes 2-6 months to even show progress! Sooooo I told Monday night guy that I had to cancel last minute to help a friend out, but can we do something Tuesday or Thursday?
    he wrote “no worries”.
I thought I blew it. And he had a lot of potential and I really liked his profile but….. my skin needs tightening ya’ll. @levioosa you get me on this, right?
He’s quiet all day, I went to a 5:30 consult for another facial procedure and get home at 6.  He messages me that he can meet up tonight but I was like “it’s a little late for me now, can we plan for Thursday instead?” Because I really thought he lost interest in me and wasn’t prepared for anything.  He suggested a coffee shop near me and he could drive to me.
it’s 6:15. I’m like… eh, you know what? Starbucks closes at 8. I can meet him at 7 and I got an hour for him. Plus, I did tell him Tuesday or Thursday worked for me.  So we meet up at starbucks. Everything is great. He asked if I had eaten yet and I said no, so he suggested we go for a bite. I agree. The second place closes at 9.  I follow a lot of match makers and love guru’s and they say 1 hour coffee dates are what you want to do for first dates to vet them. We head to a restaurant and split an app and have a drink. We only spent 2 hours together but we got along great and made a good connection. He checks a lot of boxes and he even set up a 2nd date at the end of the night. I like that initiation.  We texted back and forth a bit after it too.
Anyway, this is a long story to tell you: take those chances. You don’t know what can come out of it.
Edit; because my first round sounded like we split a drink too, which we sure didn’t.

  • haha, I get you @CharmedPam. I am so happy my Uncle is flying down on Thursday because I have a laser appointment Saturday morning and I reallllly didn't want to cancel it. It might be a super painful self care thing, but it's still self care. lol. I'm glad the date went well!

My morning is starting off rough. It took me thirty minutes longer than normal to get to work. Partly my fault because I just couldn't get up this morning but I didn't leave super late either.

It's my birthday next week. I keep debating having the parents come out and meet us for dinner vs having a weekend without any family. I feel guilty saying it, but when we have them out it becomes about them and I've been doing so much I just don't know if that's how I want my birthday to be. But then I feel guilty for feeling that way. Ugh.

Otherwise SSDD. Trying to talk myself into a workout tonight but feeling very spud like.

  • @levioosa mine is the 26th!  When is yours?

I say your birthday is the one day you get to be a selfish self-centered person and do what you want.  I have done that every year since I divorced and I have so much fun.  There have been times I just did a simple dinner by myself all the way to last years party that had like...20-30 people at it.  This year I picked the movie theatre and we're watching 2 of my favorite movies in one of their big media rooms.
  • @VarunaTT yay birthdays! And mine is the 1st. I'm keeping an eagle eye to see how the weather will be. It's an unpredictable time of year.

  • Yeah, that's why my trips ended up cancelled.  I'm doing my birthday stuff on March 1st, so I'll wish you a happy birthday too!
  • It’s still super cold here. I love the snow and winter but the bone chilling cold is not for me.

Also- TMI but got my period for the first time in almost 2 years am I forgot how much this sucks. All I want to do is nap.

Work is busy. One of my teams doesn’t have great resilience and this is their busiest season. The process they have for this is legitimately terrible but also we cannot change it in the middle, and I’ve lined up resources to start to make fixes after it’s done, but I need them to just get through this.
  • @CharmedPam, yay new potential guy!  That was always great signs for me, in my single days.

You meet for something very casual like coffee.  The unspoken "easy out" if one or both people aren't feeling it.  But then after things seem to be going well a second location is suggested, ie prolonging the date.  Bingo!  Then the making plans for a second date towards the end of the first one.  Double bingo!

  • Work is insanely busy today.

Monday I drove up to GS camp after work to meet Chiquita and her troop.  As I pulled in my cousin texted me that a tree fell on the main power lines to my parents house so they had no power.  It was in the low 20s!  Luckily my aunt and uncle were over with batteries (They live two doors up) and they have a propane stove in the basement to heat where they slept but it was nerve wracking.  They thankfully had power back by 2 yesterday.

  • The coffee date is social media's idea of worst first date ever.  I still don't really understand why -- you can get OUT of a coffee date.  If you're there for dinner and it's going badly, I think women would feel more pressure to stay.  With a coffee date, bill is already paid and you can leave.
  • 100% why it’s recommended for a short coffee first @VarunaTT, and my thinking was they’ll kick us out at 8 anyway when they close.
ugh, I had lost a bit of weight and I guess some in my face the last year (and having bad anxiety with S the last 2 months of last year, I couldn’t eat and lost more - which, hey, I’m overweight anyway so it’s not a bad thing), but now my jowels/fat around my lips are sagging and nothing is helping them. No one can offer a solution, and every skin tightening RF recommendation does not offer immediate results, so that helps my self esteem : /
oh @banana468 that’s awful. Way to cold for that to be happening.  My parents had the same thing happen to them, and were out of power for one full week.  Alot of people are saying to sue the utility and yes, I agree.
@levioosa, go with Varuna on this.  You do you!

  • Still cold here with just a dusting of snow to be a nuisance. H and I picked up a bed for DS2. I bought it off FB marketplace. It looks nice and I think he'll like it. He saw a picture of it but you never know until you see the actual thing. Tomorrow we pick up a dresser and chest of drawers. He said the inspection went well today with no major red flags. He will talk with his agent tomorrow to get advice on what to ask for re inspection.

I had a chiropractor appointment today followed by a stretch session so my back and hips feel pretty good for now. I wish that feeling lasted longer but I guess the aches and pains come with age.
