Kind of busy this weekend, all nice things, but not much down time.  Will try to get my cleaning done today, plus the usual pizza and movie.  We're going into the city tomorrow morning for some fun, then 3pm swim practice and a Panera date afterwards with some swim team friends and their sweet moms.

Sunday is mass, and we'll gather for St. Patrick's Day at my parents' house as a whole family.  I have a corned beef (and potatoes, cabbage, etc) for just my home, but toying with making it next weekend since two days in a row is a lot.  (And I don't know when I'd make it on Monday, it's a low and slow kind of meal.)  We'll see.

Tomorrow we're selling GS cookies for an hour mid day and family comes over for St. Patrick's Day so I used the time to be productive last night.  I made corned beef which is luckily mostly hands off but took 4 hours to cook (3 in the pot and 45 minutes in the oven plus the coating of brown sugar).    What that churned I made a soda bread and I'll probably make a 2nd tonight.

Tomorrow after we're done w/ cookies I'll need to be on potato / colcannon chores plus I need to get my table set and house in order as we celebrate MIL/St. Patrick's Day.

I'm dyeing my hair purple tonight.  I've always wanted vivid haircolor and I finally work at a place that doesn't care, so it's happening.  My inner child is most pleased with me.  I also have an extensions consult which I'll still do, but honestly my hair growing out from the buzz has grown into this great shag that I really like, so I might not do extensions for awhile now.

No big plans for the weekend. My friend that had to miss my bday party is coming in to hang out Saturday.  I'm going to start making some inroads to packing and moving things.  See mom on Sunday and nothing much else.  I've got to do some grocery shopping.

ETA:  I had to go check dying vs dyeing.
  • Busy weekends for most! Is it the better weather? Spring rolling in? @VarunaTT, I too always wanted purple hair but couldn’t do it because of work.  I saw a lady today with ombre purple but the dark started at the front of her hair going back lighter into a light, almost whiteish purple vs. the top of the head down.  Lmao at:

I’ve had those Trump wines and they taste like ass,” Hegseth said. “Jesus, I’d rather be sober.”

OK PSA: Varuna and a friend of mine got me on kiss press on nails.   Varuna got me on the glue on kind and my friend liked the stickers. Well the stickers slip and slide around, my hair gets caught in them, and yes some pop off. The glue on stay on much longer, but they also get caught in my hair and pop off from time to time. I have extremely wide nailbeds and kiss almond shaped (fav cut) doesn’t cover my entire nail, thus the lifting. The wide nail versions are limited and square tip and hard to come by.

Then a fb add for “curvlife” comes into my life. They boast 2 weeks on, super strong, super quick drying and no lifting and nothing getting caught in the hair.  Ok, I’ll try. They do come from china (amazon sells them too though) so it took 3 weeks but game changer. Each pack has the glue option OR sticker option but I didn’t use either and bought the semi-solid glue & remover instead. The nails form to fit any nailbed which probably wont be an issue for most. They took 5 minutes, are STRONG and so real looking. But most importantly, they lay completely flat and don’t pop up or get caught in my hair when I run it through.  I’ve had them on for a full week now and no issues, so there hasn’t been a need to take them off, but the demonstration looks pretty easy. Here’s the pack I bought, but I immediately went online to buy some fun designs after falling in love with these! Acrylics no more!

Your post is interesting timing for me!  Last night I was on the elevator leaving work and suddenly started thinking about nails.  How it's been years since I last had acrylics.  That I miss them.  Should I get them put on again?  But then I immediately remember what a time-consuming hassle they were.

Best case scenario, I have to sit in a nail salon for 1-2 hours every 3 weeks.  Yet another long errand to run.

But the usual reality.  1-2 nails break before I need a fill.  Do I make a special trip to get them fixed?  Or ignore how much that unkempt look bugs me and wait until my fill?

I ultimately decided...nah.  The "pro" wasn't worth the "con", at least not at this point in time.

But hmmm...what you are describing sounds like a happy medium.

  • I love them @short+sassy. They look real. The reviews say they don’t damage the nail under them either but I have yet to see. Kiss glue has damaged some of mine. But yeah $10 or less for a set, no salon time is a bonus!

  • *sigh* my nails are doing that thing they did after COVID last year where they suddenly have just decided to detach from the nail bed. I don't think it's related to the gel itself, because my toes don't seem to have the issue and there's no indication of a dermatitis type situation with redness, pain or itching. My guess is it's some fun thing I have now from COVID and is probably related to something autoimmune. I asked out rheumatologist if she had ever seen something like it before and she was like "nope!" Cool cool. I've only personally seen it once (well, twice, including me) in a patient who also had autoimmune diseases. Derm doesn't know what it is, rheumatology doesn't know, it's just my life now. It did happen after I stopped my Nutrafol and Sunisdin vitamins for a month and a half, and those did help it grow out to begin with, so I guess I'm back to spending out of pocket big money for that. Ugh.

    Yay for purple hair! @VarunaTT

At work today and irked because of a situation yesterday. It rained almost all day yesterday and we even got hail and some snow. The mountains look gorgeous today even if they're mostly hidden in clouds. It might rain a little more later today.

Otherwise, SSDD. Going to see the Grandparents tomorrow but I don't think we'll stay the night. H has finals on Monday so he really can't be away all weekend. We don't have any plans for St. Patrick's Day although H decorated the house. I can't believe March is almost halfway over.

    Thinking of you @MNNEbride

Nutrafol pills? I had to choke those down! Why do
we have to take 4? Compact that down to one!!!  And they were costly. I like the hers brand - but I do it for hair growth, not nails.

  • @CharmedPam I do it for both because my hair is a thinning mess and my nails are screaming for help. I would absolutely love to do the Alma Ted laser hair treatment with some PRP injections but that is so much money. Swallowing pills doesn't bother me. I have a love hate relationship with supplements for a million reasons but I do take a fair amount. I am pretty annoyed that the Nutrafol made a difference though because they're not cheap. I tried the Biotin from Costco before and uh, it was not a friend with my stomach.

  • @levioosa, my weirdo thing that doctors haven't been able to explain is why I don't grow any hair on my legs or arms (a little for my armpits).  At least it's a positive!  But I feel like it must be symptom of "something" that is still undiagnosed.

Thankfully, the hair on my head has always grown just fine.

One of my tv crushes was Dr. House.  I always thought it would be cool to have a one-night stand with him.  With the bonus being I make an offhand comment and he rattles off a rare medical condition I'm suffering from, LMAO.

I just Googled it.  Ooohh...maybe this since I already have two other autoimmune diseases:
    • Alopecia areata, which is an autoimmune condition in which the body’s immune system mistakenly attacks healthy hair follicles. It most often develops on the scalp, but it can cause hair loss anywhere, including on the legs.

@short+sassy I had alopecia in high school, but unfortunately only my scalp.  Hair growth on other parts of my body has slowed over the last few years.
  • @short+sassy I desperately wanted a Dr. House in my life to diagnose me when I was younger. I mean, it would still be nice, instead of making educated guesses that I have POTS and EDS in conjunction with my confirmed RA. My mom finally gave me my old ortho records last year and it was pretty frustrating to see note after note from 2 y/o on of "hypermobile female...hypermobile female...female with hypermobility, joint warmth and subluxation, hypermobile female with joint warmth, swelling, erythema...etc" to finally get a diagnosis of JRA at 14. I'm still continually finding out shit that isn't "normal" but that has always been normal for me. And I love medicine, but 1. it's literally impossible to know everything about everything and 2. it's not perfect and there's still a lot we don't know. One of the things I absolutely despise is knowing someone has something autoimmune going on but being unable to tell them for sure and that there's no name or treatment. Fibromyalgia in particular has a ton of different misdiagnosed or never named diagnoses that get thrown in, and real fibromyalgia needs a ton more research (at least we're finally agreeing that it's not just psychiatric).

  • @levioosa, it does feel like we have only scratched the surface of how the human body works.  And there is vastly more we don't understand at all.

The same medical condition can affect individuals very differently.

Medications can affect people so differently.  I see that all the time on the GLP-1 forums I follow, for multiple fronts.  Effectiveness.  Side effects and severity (good and bad).

And geez, medications!  Especially for people who take a lot of them, there is no way to necessarily know if that particular combination is having a detrimental effect.

I think a lot of it is we are trying to treat people, en masse.  I understand why we need to do it that way, but every one of us is a very unique individual.  Not just for medical conditions and medicines.  But supplements, food, environment, and probably other things I'm not thinking of.

  • I take a TON of meds and supplements. Sunday is watch 90 Day and fill up my weekly pill boxes” night. It would be disastrous if I forgot to do it because forgetting and doing that on Monday morning before work would take up a lot of time.

  • Yeah, I have a pill organizer with 3 boxes for each day.  It takes 15 minutes to fill everything up appropriately.
