How's everyone feeling?  I hope the weekend was restful for those who needed it.

Mine was nonstop.  All nice things, but I'm zonked.  The city was nice, particularly St. Patrick's Cathedral and introducing the kids to a restaurant I knew they'd like.  Yesterday was a nice celebration with my family (a combo of St. Patrick's Day, some birthdays and St. Joseph's Day) but I'd also had time earlier to get my corned beef and mashed potatoes (which the kids requested over colcannon this year) made, to simply reheat in a low oven after work.  I baked an Irish soda bread for the faculty room and set it out a couple hours ago with Kerry gold butter and preserves, it's almost all gone.  Maybe I should've made extra.
  • It was a good weekend.  Friday night, I went out to dinner with a friend and stopped by the record store.  I've got to take a record back tomorrow b/c it has a skip on it.  It's a Bowie album that I didn't have, so hopefully they can just replace it.  I also bought some cute earrings that I need to exchange.  They're by a local artist, but the ring that attached the decoration to the stud came off when opening the package and disappeared.  I like the earrings, so I'm hoping there was another pair or I can just get them repaired.

Saturday my friend, A, came into town.  Me, A, and J all hung out, watching movies and TV shows, just generally laughing and being with each other.  Sunday I took some time to just be quiet and relax.  The air quality here has been bad and my lungs actually did hurt.  My asthma is allergy induced, so whatever it was definitely made me feel it.

I'm not feeling work right now.  I suspect I need to take a long weekend or something, but I'm trying to save my time.  I also had another attorney added and he is BUSY, plus I'm learning a new state, so I think I'm just feeling a tad overwhelmed until I get a grip on the new things as well.  But I'm still working from home and in my PJs, so I appreciate that.  Looking forward to a quiet week.  I was out with friends 3 times last week.  It did me good, and it wore me out.
  • Busy weekend here!  Saturday we sold cookies for an hour and then I was in house/food prep mode as we readied to have my uncle and DH's parents for St. Patrick's Day dinner plus cake for MIL.  It was nice and my corned beef was decent enough FIL texted me this morning to ask how I made it.

Sunday started off yucky when DH got a call from our tenant to find that our water heater kicked the bucket and leaked in the basement.  He and FIL spent the day cleaning up and installing a new water heater and also got in touch with the tenant next door who is a royal PITA.   According to our tenant she won't speak to him and he doesn't own.  The leak went into his basement as they're the same level and DH could tell he's angling for at least replacement carpet.   Now DH has to contact the insurance co so they can come out and see if this dude's carpet is owed a replacement or if the answer is 'tough noogies don't put non-indoor/outdoor carpet in your basement." Our understanding is that the dude is a jerk, doesn't have the finances to own on his own (He's older than we are and HIS parents own the condo which they bought in the last 10ish years) and knows how to cry foul.

15 years ago the entire basement flooded due to a rainstorm so it's also an issue for when our area can be hit by the 100 yr storms that now happen more frequently.  We'll see what our insurance co says but that wasn't what we were hoping for.
  • Ugh banana that’s so annoying.

@casadena yay green pancakes! I don’t know if I would be pursuing having those kids around either. *hugs* about H.

@ei34 sounds like a great weekend and soda bread with Kerrygold butter sounds delicious right now.

@varunatt I know you’re trying to save your time but it might not be the worst idea to take at least one day for a long weekend so you don’t sink totally into burnout.

Weekend was okay. Saturday was long. We went to visit the grandparents and I spent hours working on their house stuff. Traffic was terrible because of the LA Marathon which I’d forgotten about. Yesterday I did literally nothing but watch a shitty show all day and zone out. I needed it although I feel a bit like a slug. I’m still debating how productive I want today to go because it’s back to the crazy work week tomorrow.

  • I got home from Florida Saturday night. Yesterday we went to Dayton to help DS2 with a few house things (he closed on Friday). I cleaned the kitchen and bathrooms while he and H put together the bed we brought with us and moved the dresser into the bedroom. He has moved some boxes of stuff over but this Saturday is when the big furniture is being moved. He has friends coming over to help. One of them lives near us and is picking up the nightstands to take over. We leave Friday for SC so I'm starting to pull stuff together for that.
  • Weekend here was busy but fun. Friday was REI for a new pack for this weekend's adventure. Saturday was really nice, so we did a long run and hung around the park for a bit after. Then I had errands and get the house together for adult slumber party, which turned out to be a blast. Yesterday I did a little shopping with a friend and then we had a game. We didn't make it home until after 11 last night and I woke up with a sore throat, so it will be early to bed tonight.

On the up side, the weather for this weekend is looking great. I'm really excited to get away for a few days.
  • Happy St Patrick’s Day!
yeah I can see not wanting them to pick up that language @Casadena. And vent away about H, Casadena, living with that also takes a toll on your mental health. I hope things get better.
@banana468, yikes! Good luck with the insurance company

i don’t care for cabbage and corned beef, I actually forgot to change up my homechef order and don’t really like the selections they automatically selected for me.  I AM trying to be healthier and fitter though. Starting today. My walmart pick up has fruits AND vegetables (I hate veggies so this is bigger than you think lol) and I had set to wake up early to work out but I accidentally got my times
messed up and I set the alarm too late.
    There’s always tomorrow.

  • @CharmedPam I'm the opposite, I love veggies and fruit and I are meh.  I was trying to find more fruit options for snacking and googled "fruits for snacking" b/c I'm so meh on fruit that I couldn't think of anything beyond what I always get (red grapes, honeycrisp apples and cara cara oranges -- the apples and oranges have to be in season or aren't available, I don't like any other apples or oranges besides those).  So, I also have watermelon (bought pre-chopped) and fresh pineapple (bought the whole one and chopped up).  Both are very good and that made me happy too.
  • @CharmedPam I've been trying to get a serving of veggies in with breakfast every day lately. For some reason, eating a portion of broccoli or something with eggs in the morning feels so much easier than trying to make sure I get it in at lunch and dinner. Idk if you're a breakfast person, but it's definitely helped me get more in!

  • Oh you mean drinking my veggies “bloom” style in my drink doesn’t count for whatever amount of servings they tell me it is? Lol. Actually I don’t think they label the serving count on a scoop. I’ll go with 5.
i love most fruits.  Summer has two good things about it. Sandals so my feet don’t feel trapped - and fruit when in season.

  • Happy St. Patrick's Day everyone!

I found out on my recent trip that Savannah has the second largest St. Paddy's Day parade.  They even beat Chicago.  Only NYC's is bigger.  Little Savannah, GA!  Who would've thought, lol.

But I'm not doing anything today, other than wearing my light green tie-dyed t-shirt that says, "Not Today Pinchers".

They dye the river green! I know Chicago does that too, but it's fun.

Spinach in egg bites is my go-to when I need more veggies in breakfast. But I'm more of a fruit in the morning girlie.

About 10 days ahead of time, they also dye the water green in the famous Forsyth Park fountain.  They were doing that the day we were leaving.

@casadena oof I remember those struggles (still honestly dealing with it on the friends), your boys are at tricky ages.  My kids aren't angels (at all) but they don't use rude language and definitely aren't violent.  If you enjoy their parents' company I'd almost lean more towards playdates not in the home, so at least your boys aren't seeing wild mode in their living room ("oh, cool, we can tear the cushions off the couch and cannonball onto them?").  Maybe a local playground or indoor play space?
My forever MVP tv show (for your boys' age, for my kids' age, any age) is If You Give a Mouse a Cookie, on prime.  The characters go on fun adventures, there are silly moments that entertain the kids, but everyone speaks and acts respectfully towards each other.  I actually canceled Netflix for a spell when my kids were preschool/early childhood age, too many shows features fresh characters.  Or like, the bully-like kid who is rude, but then learns a lesson at the end and changes for the better...that nuance is lost on a 4 yr old who might've paid closer attention to the language and antics of the first 17 minutes of the episode as opposed to the lesson in the last 5 minutes.  So I feel you on the shows- not going to throw in the "it gets better" bc I know you know that.  It's frustrating now.  Just the fact that they have such a conscientious, mindful mom will make a huge difference, fwiw  <3
  • @ei34 we love give a mouse a cookie! Definitely watch that one quite a bit. I also really like Bluey and feel like it's pretty representative of a good family dynamic - some sass but nothing rude, everyone deals with it in a nice way. We also liked the Rubble character spinoff of Paw Patrol. Stinky and Dirty on Prime is also really great!

We're taking a TV break this week but I'm thinking we need to start limiting Spidey and PJ Masks, etc. They're very into super hero stuff which i get, but I'm noticing exactly what you mentioned above. They're missing the nuance of "bad guy learns a lesson" and just copying the shooting/throw stuff/stealing/etc language they use throughout.

I also could be blaming playing with these two kiddos too much, but I also know my kids and trust them mostly to let me know how/where they heard some of the more violent things and it's usually these 2 or a a couple other kids at school. Which i definitely believe, knowing these kids a bit. Ex: N told me other day he was going to stab me in the eye and giggled - he's 3.5 and he clearly doesn't totally understand the seriousness of that. We talked about it, but he's also going to repeat things that he hears that get a huge reaction at school/on tv.
