Happy Spring!  We just lifted from a (planned) Lockdown Drill, which is why the post is a bit later than usual.

Trying to order books for the kids' Easter baskets on B&N's website and it's being really glitchy.  I prefer them over Amazon but like, make it easier please.  (Yes, I know independent bookstores a thing. The closest one to me there are still 4 B&Ns closer, and they're very *shrug* if a particular book isn't in stock.)  But I'll definitely figure it out prior to Saturday morning, which is when I'll be in store for a gift card anyway. Pretty ssdd otherwise.
  • I'm shockingly very on top of the kids easter baskets this year. They also just need a few things, like Pjs and new water bottles that make it pretty easy.

I have neighborhood book club tonight and i just don't feel like going. It's silly because i'd like to be friendlier with people in my neighborhood. I probably will, and will have fun when i get there. The boys have just been super fun lately and i feel a sad about leaving because i just want to hang out with them. We're off together all week next week though so we'll have plenty of time i guess.

One work project to finish today and then hopefully tomorrow is a pretty chill day. WFH and ducking out early for a haircut that i've rescheduled 4 times and really need.

Saturday is cleaning, packing and gymnastics. Sunday i'm leaving first thing with the boys to go to my parents. H is joining us Tuesday - he has a pulmonology follow up on Monday afternoon that he couldn't move but really needs. Hanging out for a few days, then doing a little Iowa staycation at a hotel so the kids can swim and stuff. Should be fun and hopefully relaxing!
  • GL @ei34, I’m all for ordering via the web.
I planned a dinner with some girls tonight. It’s at a great tiki hut/asian restaurant so I’m looking forward to that. I started “running point” yesterday on netflix and it’s kinda cute. Made me laugh a few times. I love Isla, Kate Hudson’s character. Tough and firm president of a basketball franchise but yet has heart.
The president of the company is working out of our office today, so I have to look busy soon. Ugh!

  • Today is my Friday, thank goodness.  IDK what I'm going to do tomorrow, except I have a haircut at 5.  I wish the park I like to read it had the water fountains on already, but if the weather is nice, I might go anyway.  I got another good night's sleep last night, so I'm feeling a lot better.  Thank goodness for edibles, b/c the indica knocks me out, but I don't have a hangover from it the next day, like I did when I used Benadryl for insomnia.

I don't usually buy a lot of sports merch, but Hamilton has dropped his new line for the China race and I want it.  But $135 for a hoodie sweatshirt is just something I can't convince myself to do.  I did laugh, b/c if it'd been a quarter zip, I probably would've gotten it.  But it's race week again, and I'm looking forward to it.

    Otherwise, SSDD.

@ei34 There is thriftbooks, which I use.  I actually really like them, it's a website for all the used and independent bookstores.  Their loyalty program is really good and I get free books quite often.  I'm not sure about shipping times though.  And bookshop.org is independent bookstores.  Again, not sure about shipping, just b/c I've never ordered from them with anything buy myself in mind.  But those are what I use for books, still keeping convenience for me, but my $$ put back into local sales.

Yay for the haircut and staycation @Casadena / girls night @CharmedPam / long weekend @VarunaTT, all sounds good!
And thanks varuna, I get most of my books from thriftbooks, they're great. 2/3 books that the kids want were not listed there, although I did check because there's plenty of time between now and Easter for shipping.
  • I am tired but other than that nothing much is happening here.

I’m at the stage of democratic collapse existential crisis where I’m repurchasing books that I’m worried will disappear soon so I appreciate the non big seller recommendations. I read so voraciously as a kid and I had so many book loves or at least books I’d like to still have access to but there’s so many names I can’t remember and looking for them is like a needle in a haystack online. I wish I had kept a list and rated my books as a kid.

  • My flight got in late yesterday and I got home at midnight so I slept in and logged on to work after 10.  I needed it.  The days zonked me and the weekend is going to be SUPER busy.

  • I had some appointments today which put me a bit behind in laundry for vacation prep. I'm all set now though. I just need to go through my suitcase one more time to try and edit some clothes out. Having a week of cooler weather and a week of warm weather makes for more clothing! I wish we could have gone in May but that wouldn't work this year.
  • Thinking of you @MNNEBride

  • It's my Friday too, but not a relaxing weekend here. We're leaving at the butt crack of dawn to head to the trailhead, and then backpacking through the mountains until Monday. I am beside myself excited, but also terrified to be really on our own out in the middle of nowhere. Hopefully I don't get eaten by a bear.
  • @MyNameIsNot the last backpacking trip I do was a muddy disaster.  We also absolutely had a bear sniffing around our campsite.  We had tied the backpacks up and cleared everything, so there wasn't anything for the bear to get.  I suspect that, since we were having campfire whiskey and I basically peed 904 times, all around our campsite, the bear stayed away, but it was.....nerve wracking.  I knew the bear wouldn't bother us, but it was still kinda scary.  We were in black bear country and had the bear spray, but we were in our tent and I was NOT getting out.
  • Now my mom has the flu. We cannot catch a break. We traded off baby J today and both have to work tonight to make up for not really working today. It’s never ending here.
  • Thank you @levioosa!

I'm doing OK here. Yesterday, they predicted snowmageddon, so I didn't go to the hospital to hang with DH. I did get to connect with the medical team when they did rounds. I worked from home but was pretty unmotivated and exhausted. I fell asleep in the chair about 8 p.m. and went to bed at 8:30 p.m.

DH is doing well but did have an episode of chest pains yesterday. They gave him nitro twice. They did an ECG and ran heart enzymes. ECG looked good, and the enzymes were elevated but stabilized. He's OK to go to short-term rehab. Only 1 of our shortlisted places had a room available. But then there was some insurance drama. I think we got that straightened out, but now they can't take him tomorrow because they have too many other admissions, so he'll stay at the hospital and transfer there on Monday morning. I have an HS classmate and family friend, a social worker at the facility, who was helpful today.

Our nephew's funeral is tomorrow in a neighboring town.  DH is insisting that I go and he'll watch it streaming on the funeral home website.  I'll go up to the hospital when I come home.

    Appreciate the good thoughts.

All the vibes your way @MNNEBride <3
  • Hope your day goes better today @MNNEBride

  • @MNNEBride, I'm glad one of the places on the short list had availability, even if it has to be put off for a few days.  I hope he does well in the short-term rehab.

@MyNameIsNot, the camping trip sounds fun!  I'll cross my fingers nobody gets eaten by a bear, lol.

I saw a video yesterday where a woman had a car in a parking lot that looked like it was for an outdoorsy area.  She had left the driver's door ajar.  Or I assume it was her because she didn't seem concerned about that when she returned.

You see her walk up to the car and start to open the door to further climb in.  But then she screams and instinctively jumps way back.  Then runs away.

A short while later, a black bear lazily gets out of the car and meanders back to the wooded area.  It did not seem upset or bothered at all that a human had briefly disturbed it's temporary hootch.
