Dear Prudence, 

My best friend has asked me to be her maid of honor. Unfortunately, the dresses she’s selected for the bridesmaids make us all look like unripe eggplants. Would it be rude to say something to her?

    There are odd ways to tread with bridesmaids dresses.   If it's in your budget it may be best to shut up and hope you can help coloring issues with make up on the wedding day and then turn it into a bunch of throw pillows or donate it.

    Honestly, if it were my best friend and I was ponying up for the dress, I'd say something and maybe offer some alternatives? I would never do that with my SIL's for example, but a bff? sure.

    Also, this exactly is one of the huge reasons i think making BM's pay for their own dresses is ridiculous. I will never understand that custom. Ultimately, it's at the discretion of the bride, so either get the dress she wants or don't be in the wedding.

    Totally agree.

    If this was a situation where I was feeling my way through I'd suck it up.  In fact it was what I did when SIL got married and picked a strapless dress and I do NOT look good in strapless.  To this date I'm 45 and it's the only strapless I've ever worn.

    But if it was a close friend I'd tell her I was a life size penis emoji without the green top.

    I'm very small chested (32B/34A here) and my bone structure is odd so my ribs stick out.  Consequently in nearly all strapless I look like I have four small boobs that should be added together.

    Same with my good friend - I see the pictures of me in strapless and I hate every single one of
     them
