    Weekend was a mixed bag.  On Saturday the kids and I went to the Museum of Natural History, the original Tom Hanks-narrated star show is playing again in the Planetarium until early June so we wanted to catch that a final time.  It was rainy but we did a quick pop over to Central Park too.  Sunday was just mass and a BBQ, the kids insisted on swimming even though the air and water temps were both 60, so they didn't last long.  Yesterday I got some cleaning and cooking done, as well as some yard work.
    In the final stretch of the school year and guilty of being in complete countdown mode.  Sad story below but I think I put it in one of those spoiler boxes in case anyone isn't up to reading a trauma.  Sharing in hopes of any prayers or positive vibes you can send the Cifuni family's way.

    edit- spoiler box didn't work the first post

    A family friend's wife was killed in a hit and run on Saturday night coming home from the Beyonce concert.  She and another car had a fender bender and the other car drove off, at the next light she got out of her car to notify the driver but the driver took off, dragging her for over a block, and she died upon arrival at the hospital.  She was three months pregnant.  We're all completely devastated and trying to be as supportive of the family as possible, they're all completely beside themselves.  Totally heartbreaking.

    Horrific @ei34
    Sounds like a fun weekend though. One thing I dislike about memorial day weekend - it has summer feels (well, not this year) but you can’t take a jump in the lake yet!

    My weekend was good. It’s both my Dad’s and nephew’s birthday on the 25th. It rained like crazy up till right before the party started. It was an outdoor party with about 25 kids. I will give my brother’s GF credit. She’s taking on a lot. Never a mother herself, she started to date my bro who was a single dad with four kids. 7, 5, 3 and 1 at that time. She put on a really good party for my 7 year old nephew and i think is the main reason my bro and parents have a better relationship. Only thing was, my Dad’s birthday was also on Sunday and they had their long time friends over visiting them for the weekend too. My brother wanted my parents to pick up the kids while he worked yesterday (he’s a farmer, no day off), but asked for 8 am. So my Dad had to get up at 7 am to do that. We were all playing card games and stayed up till 2 having fun but he had to go to bed early. All three nights we stayed up past 1 playing cards and board games. It had a “stay at the lake, stay up late, long weekend” feel for sure, despite low temps and rain and no lake.

  • Great weekend, thanks! Wishing all a smooth week

  • Congrats on you all finishing the race @charlotte989875

  • Congratulations @charlotte989875. I'm so sorry @ei34. What a devastating event. I hope they catch the other driver. Prayers for the family.

    Weekend was ok. Too cold and gray for my liking. Our company arrived Thursday afternoon and left yesterday morning. H took them to the zoo while I had my Italian class on Saturday. They had never been to our zoo - they've been coming here for races for 41 years. On Sunday they all went to the race while I stayed home and did home stuff. At least the race didn't get rained out.
    I had lunch today with a former neighbor. It was very nice catching up with family goings on. We are headed up to DD's tomorrow for a few days, coming home Saturday afternoon. DS2 is coming home for a date with a woman he met at a wedding two weeks ago. We will stay in Chicagoland to watch the twins' final soccer game of the season then head home.

    Worked out with my trainer this morning. My shoulder and back/hip are still sore but slowly getting better. Not fast enough for me though.

    Congrats @charlotte989875!!! I want those shoes lol.

    I’m so sorry for your loss @ei34. That’s awful.

    Weekend was a mixed bag. I was so tired on Saturday. I wanted to socialize more with the neighbors (we had a local event going on) but I was so burned out. I was even burned out most of Sunday and I slept most of the day. We managed to go out for dinner which did turn into a super fun late night but then we were absolutely deceased yesterday. Unfortunately last night I got a chaotic call from my mom. They did an impromptu gathering at my grandparent’s and my mom, aunt, uncle, and cousin were all there. Everyone was crying, they were convinced Grandpa wasn’t going to make it through the night, and they wanted me to decide whether or not to call 911 because they didn’t want to make that decision and wanted him to pass peacefully at home. So we ended up driving the hour over there to see him regardless, but when I got there I knew it wasn’t just end of life stuff. He looked awful and I checked his temp and it was nearly 102. So we called 911 and they of course took him in and he’ll be in the hospital for the next week with urosepsis. Was definitely not the set up for the work week I wanted to have. I’m glad he’s getting care but it really is a no win situation.

    Anyways, back to the grind.

    First of all, congrats @short+sassy! That’s huge! I know they don’t prescribe it for T1 (or has that changed?) but maybe they should start a study and collect data on T1’s too. I can’t believe it’s been 2 years already too!

    @levioosa what a mindf*ck. To go there thinking one thing and have a different outcome.  Fast healing vibes for G’pa

    @levioosa you have so much on your plate and you must handle it with such a calm presence.  Hugs.

    @ei34 my heart goes out to you and your friend's family.  Prayers to all of them and to find the driver.

    @charlotte989875 great job!

    Weekend was ok.  Yesterday was the town parade and MIL harassed a state congressman from her position on the side.  Thankfully I wasn't near her and I told DH that...I'll never go to a parade with her.  What an overgrown child.

    Chiquita finally ran in a track meet!  Today she was able to participate and ran the 800m in 3:15.1.  It wasn't enough to place at states but still really great for her and I'm super proud.

  • The Knot is being weird again. It isn't showing when there are new comments on threads. Oh well!

  • @levioosa, I hope your grandpa has a smooth recovery.

    @CharmedPam, Thanks!

    The FDA hasn't approved any GLP-1 medication for use in the treatment of T1 diabetes because there haven't been any clinical trials specifically for us.  But doctors can prescribe it off label and do.

    There were small studies for liraglutide...one of the first GLP-1s...in 2016 that looked "promising".  But they must not have done a larger clinical trial, because I couldn't find anything about that.  I guess it wasn't "promising enough".

    There have also been small studies showing the heavier hitter GLP-1s like Ozempic and Mounjaro are also "promising" for the treatment of T1 diabetes.

    Both Eli Lily and Novo Nordisk have been recruiting T1 diabetics since I think last year for a clinical trial, but I don't know if the trials have started yet.  Crossing fingers.

    I looked at Eli Lily's clinical trial qualifications and am no longer eligible because of the benefits I already have from taking their medication, lol.
    • A1c has to be between 7.0-10.5%.  Mine was in the low 7s for years.  But it hasn't been above 7.0 since I started taking tirzepatide.
    • BMI of 25.0 or higher.  We aren't going to talk about how high my BMI was before this GLP-1, lol.  But it's currently 22.3.

    The previous weekend wasn't bad, but I'm already looking forward to the next one because I'll finally have a vacation. I am the kind of person who starts packing for a trip long before the trip itself. Therefore, I have already packed the things I need and various medicines from Canada Pharmacy Partner that I might need on this trip. So very soon I will have the opportunity to relax and be absolutely calm about everything.
  • Congratulations @short+sassy! That's wonderful that you've had such success with GLP-1. I know it was a lot of hard work on your part.
