@VarunaTT DH and I have been following the latest Red Bull news.  He's curious if it's not yet announced that Verstappen is leaving.

I feel for the counselors this week at Chiquita's camp.  What a rough week to send your kids off to sleep away if you never did it before.  I can see the messages asking what the plans are for thunderstorms, weather, asking how kids are and it must hit everyone's stress levels so much.

Poor Chiquito has a bullying situation at the day camp with local kids.  My pickup is now going to be asking who is in charge and finding the college kid  who will have to tell me about how they discipline asshat 6th graders.

I was a camp counselor at a very rural camp in the Adirondack’s when I was in my early 20s. I cannot stop thinking about the terror and hopelessness the staff and the children were experiencing. I keep trying to think about how we would have handled a similar situation and it’s impossible.

Work today and SSDD. I’m trying to get on a healthier meal plan. I went to Trader Joe’s last night, specifically for one item which I of course forgot to buy. But I’m going to try my hand at a cod dish with bok choy tonight. Otherwise, gym tonight. We are going to Vegas at the end of August so it’s time to buckle down and get to looking as cute as possible before I go (it’s getting harder with age, lol).

I hope Chiquito is okay @mrsconn23. Bullying is the pits.

  • I was a Girl Scout camp counselor in college and one of the most fun jobs I had. I can’t imagine what that all must have been like. We had safety drills but not for something like that.

    Hope Chiquita is okay @banana468!

    Thank you!

I think Chiquita is fine.  The camp updated and I'm not concerned.  Where she's camping is on a lake and the local waters have a series of dams that have been around for years.

For Chiquito I think he'll be OK.  My bigger concern is that when I walk to the counselors they're likely kids not much older than Chiquita.

I know the counselors are probably high school kids- are there adults leading the program that are guiding them in how to handle things like this.

I'm going to find them!  They're not usually always where the kids are but I intend to be as nice as I can to the teens and say what's going on isn't OK.  The kids sign a behavioral contract so I expect it to be enforced.    Heck, years ago I had to get Chiquita one day because she broke the rules.

@banana468 when rumors like the Verstappen to Mercedes have been floating as long as this, I tend to think they're true.  The Hamilton to Ferrari thing was already being rumored for months; by the time they announced we were all assuming it was true.  If it is true, I don't think they'll announce until after silly season, but all that we really know about F1 is that you never know.  There's a reason Russell is still waiting on that new contract from Mercedes

BUT MORE IMPORTANT, HORRIBLE HORNER WAS FIRED FROM RED BULL TODAY.  Now if they can just get rid of Helmut Marko, I might be able to stand the team.  To tie it all together:  I think that Verstappen has already activated his exit clause and is headed to Mercedes and Horner has been fired for punishment about that, OR Max threatened it so hard and Jos (his dad who is a POS) got so involved, that Horner was the sacrifice to get him to stay.  No matter what it is, I tend to lean towards Verstappen should go.  He needs to lead another team to championships to truly go down as one of the GOATs.  RB is getting a terrible humbling between Horners BS and then Newey's departure.  I hate to see such a great team fall so far, even if I don't care for them or their drivers.

My days off were nice.  I didn't think about work at all.  Mom had a nice long "honey-do" list that I dealt with.  Went over to a friend's on Saturday and had a movie marathon that was fun.  Overall, decent time off and back to the grind.

@VarunaTT I'll share your assessment with DH.   It started with him telling me about Horner's termination and DH's thought was that it's likely due to their standing in Constructor's but also WTF is going on with Verstappen when they're both arrogant people but he's a phenomenal driver.

DH totally respects Verstappen's talent but if he was to root for any driver it was likely going to be Norris (and he liked Ricciardo because of his personality but sadly just wasn't doing it on the track).

Verstappen has exit clauses in his contract that he can activate if the team isn't keeping him high enough in the constructers/driver's championship.  Between last years performance and this year, while I think Verstappen is a loyalist, his father is not. And his father really seems to hate Horner.  IDK if that's been all along or just the last few years, but Jos is all.up in Red Bull's business.  I think between Horner's sexual harassment scandal and a few other things, then you add RB not being absolutely dominating or even winning except for Max dragging that car through sheer skill and talent around that track, and it's a potent mix for disaster.  I kinda think Max might stay for 2026. just to see if RB can pull out a phenomenal new car...but they don't have Newey anymore either, so I think that's really unlikely and Max might just roll the dice on a more senior team (Mercedes) having the tech savvy for the new regs in '26.  Red Bull is suffering b/c Dimitri died.  All of those extreme sports were his passion and I think without him, you have a lot of people asking why they're spending so much money in some of these sports.

My favorites are Hamilton and Piastri.  I like Lando, but I don't think he has championships in him.  And if he does, it's 1 and done.  I think Piastri is going to dominate for awhile, as long as McLaren keeps doing what they're doing.

Or Dietrich?  I can't really be bothered to remember the former CEO's name that started this all.  But it was him.
