Dear Prudence,

I don’t have kids, but many of my friends do, and some very unkind things are being said about the baby of one friend, “Marlayna,” behind her back. The running joke is that we should start up a plastic surgery fund for her daughter because she “looks like a botched abortion.” I find this extremely off-putting. Would it be appropriate for me to say something to them about their insensitive comments or tell Marlayna what they’ve been saying about her baby?

    I'm floored LW is still friends, b/c they would've dumped me after I gave them a piece of my mind.  I think most babies look like Winston Churchill, but I mean it as fun ribbing about how wrinkly babies are.  Also, I have never once told a friend that their baby looks like Winston Churchill and never will.

    FFS, don't tell Marlayna (segue: dear lord at the whyte people hidden y).

    How are you friends with these people? I will never tell people they have an ugly baby (and let’s be real, most babies are honestly not that cute until they iron out a little), but I have told people they have unicorn babies (a newborn who instantly is beyond adorable). Bff told me the other day she looks back at pictures of one of her kids and laughs because she thought they were the most beautiful baby in the world at the time and now realizes, uh…they were not. lol.
