Just give it back, this is not a problem

Dear Prudence,

I returned from a formal luncheon and discovered to my horror that I had inadvertently pocketed my hostess’ antique silver salt cellar. Can I sneak it back, or do I need to return it with a proper note of apology?

  • Inadvertently picked up an item from the table, salted your food and put it in your pocket??

Tell the host that you accidently found it in your possession and think twice before you steal next time.

That is not something that just "accidentally ends up in a pocket" from the table.  Yes to what @banana468 said.
  • Yeah this is sus to me too, and also a weird letter to need advice for

  • This sounds like a set up for a sitcom episode, except it was Ross's monkey who stole it and now he has to sneak it back because the monkey wasn't supposed to be there

This has the same energy as showing up to the ER because you "fell in the shower" on a cucumber and don't know how that happened.
